    Artificial Intelligence for the Management of Servitization 5.0

    Purpose-The sale of physical products has been manufacturing companies' main revenue source. A trend is known as servitization for earning revenue comes from services. With the convergence of servitization and digitization, many manufacturing organizations are undergoing digital servitization. In parallel, the digitization of industry is pushing new technological solutions to the top of the business agenda. Artificial intelligence can play a substantial role in this digital business transformation. This evolution is referred to in this paper as Servitization 5.0 and requires substantial changes. Aim-This paper explores the applications of artificial intelligence to Servitization 5.0 strategies and its role, particularly in changing organizations to EverythiA.I.ng as a Service. The paper underlines the contribution that A.I. can provide in moving to a human-centric, sustainable, and resilient servitization. Method used-The basis of the work is a literature review supported by information collected from business case studies by the authors. A follow-up study defined the models. The validity of the model was tested by collecting ten experts' opinions who currently work within servitization contracts sessions. Findings-For manufacturing companies, selling services requires completely different business models. In this situation, it is essential to consider advanced solutions to support these new business models. Artificial Intelligence can make it possible. On the inter-organizational side, empirical evidence also points to the support of A.I. in collaborating with ecosystems to support sustainability and resilience, as requested by Industry 5.0. Original value-Regarding theoretical implications, this paper contributes to interdisciplinary research in corporate marketing and operational servitization. It is part of the growing literature that deals with the applications of artificial intelligence-based solutions in different areas of organizational management. The approach is interesting because it highlights that digital solutions require an integrated business model approach. It is necessary to implement the technological platform with appropriate processes, people, and partners (the four Ps). The outcome of this study can be generalized for industries in high-value manufacturing. Implications-As implications for management, this paper defines how to organize the structure and support for Servitization 5.0 and how to work with the external business environment to support sustainability

    Breakthroughs in the management accounting science: imaging a balanced scorecard thought by lean philosophy rationales

    This work aims at providing a proposal for a new way of conducting the balanced scorecard (BSC), assuming a model that fulfils the leading features of lean philosophy and designing a research strategy that could explain how to act for arguing a "Lean-Balanced Scorecard". Management solutions inclined towards lean thinking try to solve contemporary worldwide market challenges by focusing on a virtuous corporate functioning, thanks to a shared philosophy that relies entirely on the minimization of any kind of waste: their main target is to achieve business goals in a way that is absolutely flexible and can be shared at any strategy level within the firm. In the transition towards new management accounting paradigms, might the use of the BSC enhance information processing, useful for spreading lean thinking all over the firm, and for testing its effects? Moreover, thanks to lean thinking, might we suppose improvements related to the BSC functioning, by streamlining that information processing? According to the literature, little is known about how to answer these questions. By answering them, however, we may find innovative solutions towards a better measuring process of firm success-especially from the perspectives of integrated management reporting activities in turbulent times

    Horizontal Coordination of I-LNGOs in the Humanitarian Supply Chain: An Evolutionary Game Approach

    Disasters accompanied by heavy casualties and huge economic losses directly result in the disruption or delay of economic development. Considering the urgent need for reducing losses and accelerating the process of social recovery, international nongovernment organizations (INGOs) and local NGOs (LNGOs) with different resource endowments should achieve organizational coordination to improve the relief efficiency and sustainability of the humanitarian supply chain. Due to conflicting interests and expectations, this coordination is hard to achieve. In this study, we first establish an evolutionary game model between INGOs and LNGOs to determine the influencing factors and explore the interaction of NGOs in a dynamic way. Our results show that: (1) coordination by resource sharing can improve the sustainability of the humanitarian supply chain; (2) coordination willingness is affected by the behavior of other players, which can nevertheless achieve equilibrium under certain conditions; and (3) the important factors and optimal strategies of players are highlighted in the dynamic model. This study provides several insights into the theory of organizational coordination in the humanitarian supply chain regarding sustainability

    The predictive effect of teachers’ perception of school principals’ motivating language on teachers’ self-efficacy via a cultural context

    The aim of the study is to investigate the relationship between teachers' perception of school principals' motivating language and teachers' self-efficacy mediated by the cultural context. School principals' linguistic communication skills are critical to sustain the motivation of teachers and their self-efficacy. Motivating language theory (MLT), on which this study is based, provides a model that helps us understand how the language, more precisely, the speech acts, used by school principals have an impact on teachers' self-efficacy. A survey method was employed with 252 teachers through convenience sampling. The teachers' mean age was 34.87 (SD = 9.22) years, and the average length of service was 11.72 (SD = 9.42) years. The results showed that school principals' use of motivating language was significantly and positively associated with teachers' self-efficacy (b = 0.10, p < 0.000). The low-context culture was found to have a full mediating effect in this relationship (b = 0.04, t = 3.1771, p < 0.000). The findings contribute to leader communication theory by highlighting a particular emphasis on the language school principals use to motivate teachers

    Corporate Social Responsibility Disclosure (CSRD) and Financial Distressed Risk (FDR): Does Institutional Ownership Matter?

    This study aims to investigate the effect of corporate social responsibility disclosure (CSRD) on financial distressed risk (FDR) among firms listed on the Tehran Stock Exchange (TSE). This paper also examines whether there is a negative linkage between institutional ownership as a corporate governance mechanism and corporate bankruptcy. The final research purpose is to analyze if there is a moderating effect of institutional owners on the relationship between CSRD and FDR too. The study sample consists of 200 firms listed on the TSE between 2013 and 2018, and the statistical model is logistic regression. When FDR is assessed under both Article 141 of Iran's business law and the Altman Z-score model, our results on the main research hypotheses are quite similar. Considering the social and cultural conditions and economic situation of the Iranian market, the results show that firms with a high level of CSR disclosure are not able to make themselves more creditworthy and do not have better access to financing, resulting in more financial insolvency. Our findings confirm institutional shareholders play a vital role in facilitating a firm's emergence from bankruptcy. The results also demonstrate financial distress risk is less seen among companies with more institutional owners that disclose more CSR information. In other words, since the goals related to CSR are long-term and Iranian institutional investors have a long-term horizon towards the company, the presence of more institutional owners within a firm push managers to provide additional voluntary CSR disclosure so firms can maintain the trust of their shareholders at the highest possible level and prevent financial distress. Our additional analysis indicates there is a positive association between financial leverage and firm failure, whereas the current ratio and ROA are negatively connected with corporate bankruptcy. Finally, when FDR is assessed on the Altman Z-score model, our evidence supports a negative relation between purchase and sale-related party transactions and bankruptcy risk, which is consistent with the efficient transaction hypothesis

    How external stakeholders drive the green public procurement practice? An organizational learning perspective

    Purpose - This study aims to uncover the black box of the influence mechanism between external stakeholder drivers and green public procurement practice, and meanwhile to explore the moderating role of administrative level in this process. Green public procurement (GPP) has been widely implemented. Existing literature has found that external stakeholder drivers can affect public sectors' GPP practice, however, the definition of its connotation is still unclear, and how external stakeholders affect GPP practice has remained a black box.Design/methodology/approach - After defining the major external stakeholders, this study develops a multiple mediation theoretical model using survey data from 142 Chinese local public sectors. It aims to uncover the black box of the influence mechanism between external stakeholder drivers and GPP practice and meanwhile explore the moderating effect of administrative levels in this process.Findings - The results show that external stakeholder drivers have a positive relationship with GPP practices. The knowledge of GPP implementation policies and the knowledge of GPP benefits can both mediate this relationship. This study also finds that the administrative level of public sectors can positively moderate the mediating effect produced by the knowledge of GPP implementation policies and negatively moderate the mediation effect produced by the knowledge of GPP benefits.Social implications - Local governments need to better encourage public sectors to implement GPP. Managers of public sectors need to pay attention to organizational learning to acquire relevant knowledge on GPP.Originality/value - This study makes a theoretical contribution to a better understanding of the influence mechanism for GPP practice. This study also provides comparisons of GPP implementation policies between China and European Union

    The role of the environmental dimension in the performance management system: A systematic review and conceptual framework

    The issues of sustainable development and green practices have received increased attention in recent decades. More and more companies are moving towards a strategic approach designed to integrate environmental considerations into their strategies. Nevertheless, a difficulty still remains in the strategic alignment between the environmental dimension of sustainability and performance management system (PMS). In this context, a 'state-of-the-art' analysis of related literature was used to support future research to develop integration of effective approaches and solutions. To achieve this objective, the authors sought to develop a clear picture about the key drivers of the integration process between the environmental dimension and PMS, and to identify the missing concepts, research challenges and opportunities. The authors systematically reviewed 71 English-language scientific papers published between 2002 and 2020, and identified the missing concepts by means of content analysis. The authors found a growing trend in the 18-year period of increasing theoretical research on environmental issues, but a gap was found in developing practical solutions. The findings were used to develop a conceptual model for integrating environmental drivers that emerged from the analysis in an early stage of strategy formulation, through a scorecard-based tool aimed at supporting strategic alignment. This study provides a novel and original framework for exploring environment aspect and PMS approach. We also propose a future research agenda and useful recommendations for scholars and practitioners. It lays a firm foundation for future studies and research debates. (C) 2021 Elsevier Ltd.     Reducing plastic pollution by recovery and recycling: evidence from a ‘Blue Economy’ project impacting policy-making in Italy

    : This paper recognizes the relevance of the Seabed Cleaning Project, created by the Angelo Vassallo Sindaco Pescatore Foundation in 2010, and presents it as a tool to achieve benefits in environmental, social, and economic terms, in line with the innovative framework of the Blue Economy. The project suggests a practical, feasible, and scalable solution to plastic pollution that can be obtained thanks to the activity performed by fishermen in cooperation with the municipality and local community (in a multi-level cooperation perspective). The data show a significant reduction of plastic on the seafloor thanks to the project, but further research is needed in order to collect further positive outcomes from different applications of the project. In 2022, the "Salva Mare" Law was approved in the Senate, extending the good practices proposed by the Foundation nationwide and showing how small gestures and concrete actions can provide significant improvements in pursuit of a healthier, safer, greener, and smarter city for the future

    Does the interaction between the knowledge management process and sustainable development practices boost corporate green innovation?

    Green innovations are being deployed in manufacturing industries to promote organisational sustainability by embracing sustainable development practices (SDPs). However, little is known about how corporate green innovation (CGI) is influenced by the knowledge management process (KMP). To fill this gap, we have developed a multidimensional framework based on the resource-based view (RBV) theory that provides a foundation for sculpturing the process by which KMP was observed to capture and sustain CGI through SDPs. Data were collected from 393 respondents of large- and medium-sized manufacturing corporations in Pakistan and analysed using partial least squares structural equation modelling (SEM) and fuzzy set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA). This study provides several key findings. First, KMP dimensions (acquisition, dissemination and application) significantly improve the SDPs' dimensions (environment, economic and social). Second, SDP dimensions play a significant role in achieving CGI. Third, the implementation of SDPs partially mediates the relationship between the KMP and CGI. Furthermore, the fsQCA results signify the robustness of all integrated constructs. Our results demonstrate that investing in and adopting the latest technologies and sustainable practices are not only valuable for long-term success but the soft concerns such as managing organisational knowledge are also vital in the current knowledge-based economy. Finally, in light of our findings, theoretical and managerial implications, with propositions for future studies, have been provided at the end of the paper
