    Microstructure Evolution of Carbon Steel by Hot Equal Channel Angular Extrusion

    AbstractAn equal channel angular extrusion (ECAE) process equipment which enable a repetitive hot ECAE process without ejecting workpiece with route A and C are developed. This equipment has T-shape 3 actuator axis in horizontal plane and is capable of simulating the formation of fine grained steels in the transformation route. Each actuator (mechanical servo press unit) can be controlled by both position and load with programed motion. The outline of the developed ECAE equipment and the results of preliminary application of the ECAE equipment at an elevated temperature at various pressing speeds ranging from 2 to 32mm/s for a Nb alloyed steel are present. 2 passes via route C at ram speed 16mm/s are also conducted. The ferrite grain size of about 2μm steel is obtained throughout the workpiece at ram speed of 32mm/s, preheated temperature 960oC

    A Streamlined Method for the Preparation of Gelatin Embedded Brains and Simplified Organization of Sections for Serial Reconstructions

    Gelatin embedding of whole brains for sectioning is a critical procedure used in neuroscience to ensure all morphological and spatial details are preserved intact. Here, we describe an inexpensive, reproducible and efficient means to embed post-fixed brains ready for sectioning in gelatin within a week’s time. The sections obtained are distortion-free and their fragile internal structures preserved which can be used for serial reconstructions for lesion studies and mapping of viral expression after stereotaxic injections. In addition, the separation of adjacent slices into a series of 3-4 vials facilitates subsequent organization and assembly of serial sections at the mounting step

    Stargazer: Long-Term and Multiregional Measurement of Timing/ Geolocation-Based Cloaking

    Malicious hosts have come to play a significant and varied role in today's cyber attacks. Some of these hosts are equipped with a technique called cloaking, which discriminates between access from potential victims and others and then returns malicious content only to potential victims. This is a serious threat because it can evade detection by security vendors and researchers and cause serious damage. As such, cloaking is being extensively investigated, especially for phishing sites. We are currently engaged in a long-term cloaking study of a broader range of threats. In the present study, we implemented Stargazer, which actively monitors malicious hosts and detects geographic and temporal cloaking, and collected 30,359,410 observations between November 2019 and February 2022 for 18,397 targets from 13 sites where our sensors are installed. Our analysis confirmed that cloaking techniques are widely abused, i.e., not only in the context of specific threats such as phishing. This includes geographic and time-based cloaking, which is difficult to detect with single-site or one-shot observations. Furthermore, we found that malicious hosts that perform cloaking include those that survive for relatively long periods of time, and those whose contents are not present in VirusTotal. This suggests that it is not easy to observe and analyze the cloaking malicious hosts with existing technologies. The results of this study have deepened our understanding of various types of cloaking, including geographic and temporal ones, and will help in the development of future cloaking detection methods

    SBRT FOR CENTRAL LUNG TUMORS WITH 56 Gy/7 fr

    Stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) for centrally‑located lung tumors remains a challenge because of the increased risk of treatment‑related adverse events (AEs), and uncertainty around prescribing the optimal dose. The present study reported the results of central tumor SBRT with 56 Gy in 7 fractions (fr) at the University of Tokyo Hospital. A total of 35 cases that underwent SBRT with or without volumetric‑modulated arc therapy consisting of 56 Gy/7 fr for central lung lesions between 2010 and 2016 at the University of Tokyo Hospital were reveiwed. A central lesion was defined as a tumor within 2 cm of the proximal bronchial tree (RTOG 0236 definition) or within 2 cm in all directions of any critical mediastinal structure. Local control (LC), overall survival (OS), and AEs were investigated. The Kaplan‑Meier method was used to estimate LC and OS. AEs were scored per the Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events Version 4.0. Thirty‑five patients with 36 central lung lesions were included. Fifteen lesions were primary non‑small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), 13 were recurrences of NSCLC, and 8 had oligo‑recurrences from other primaries. Median tumor diameter was 29 mm. Eighteen patients had had prior surgery. At a median follow‑up of 13.1 months for all patients and 18.3 months in surviving patients, 22 patients had died, ten due to primary disease (4 NSCLC), while three were treatment‑related. The 1‑ and 2‑year OS were 57.3 and 40.4%, respectively, and median OS was 15.7 months. Local recurrence occurred in only two lesions. 1‑ and 2‑year LC rates were both 96%. Nine patients experienced grade ≥3 toxicity, representing 26% of the cohort. Two of these were grade 5, one pneumonitis and one hemoptysis. Considering the background of the subject, tumor control of our central SBRT is promising, especially in primary NSCLC. However, the safety of SBRT to central lung cancer remains controversial

    Contributions of phase resetting and interlimb coordination to the adaptive control of hindlimb obstacle avoidance during locomotion in rats: a simulation study.

    Obstacle avoidance during locomotion is essential for safe, smooth locomotion. Physiological studies regarding muscle synergy have shown that the combination of a small number of basic patterns produces the large part of muscle activities during locomotion and the addition of another pattern explains muscle activities for obstacle avoidance. Furthermore, central pattern generators in the spinal cord are thought to manage the timing to produce such basic patterns. In the present study, we investigated sensory-motor coordination for obstacle avoidance by the hindlimbs of the rat using a neuromusculoskeletal model. We constructed the musculoskeletal part of the model based on empirical anatomical data of the rat and the nervous system model based on the aforementioned physiological findings of central pattern generators and muscle synergy. To verify the dynamic simulation by the constructed model, we compared the simulation results with kinematic and electromyographic data measured during actual locomotion in rats. In addition, we incorporated sensory regulation models based on physiological evidence of phase resetting and interlimb coordination and examined their functional roles in stepping over an obstacle during locomotion. Our results show that the phase regulation based on interlimb coordination contributes to stepping over a higher obstacle and that based on phase resetting contributes to quick recovery after stepping over the obstacle. These results suggest the importance of sensory regulation in generating successful obstacle avoidance during locomotion

    Examining normative values using the Cambridge neuropsychological test automated battery and developmental traits of executive functions among elementary school-aged children in Japan

    The Cambridge Neuropsychological Test Automated Battery (CANTAB) is a computerized and child-friendly neuropsychological assessment battery that includes subtests aimed at evaluating some aspects of executive functions. Using the CANTAB, this study aims to establish normative values based on the aspects of executive functions among school-aged children in Japan. The participants included 234 children (135 boys and 99 girls aged 6–12 years) enrolled in regular classes, without any clinical records of developmental disorders or educational support. The participants were grouped according to age (6–7, 8–9, and 10–12 years). Four CANTAB subtests, including spatial working memory (SWM) to assess spatial working memory, Stockings of Cambridge (SOC) to evaluate planning, intra/extradimensional set shift (IED) to evaluate attentional set shifting and flexibility, and stop signal task (SST) to evaluate inhibition, were administered to each participant. The results showed that performance in all the CANTAB subtests administered changed with age. Among the subtests, compared with performances in the SOC and IED, those in the SWM and SST improved earlier, thereby indicating that spatial working memory and inhibition develop earlier than planning as well as attentional set shifting and flexibility. Additionally, in the SST subtest, girls made fewer errors than boys did in the 6–7 years group. This study presents normative data of four CANTAB subtests according to age and sex among school-aged children in Japan. We expect that the findings will be used to develop effective tools for the early detection of and support for children with executive dysfunction

    Cerebellar Modules and Their Role as Operational Cerebellar Processing Units

    The compartmentalization of the cerebellum into modules is often used to discuss its function. What, exactly, can be considered a module, how do they operate, can they be subdivided and do they act individually or in concert are only some of the key questions discussed in this consensus paper. Experts studying cerebellar compartmentalization give their insights on the structure and function of cerebellar modules, with the aim of providing an up-to-date review of the extensive literature on this subject. Starting with an historical perspective indicating that the basis of the modular organization is formed by matching olivocorticonuclear connectivity, this is followed by consideration of anatomical and chemical modular boundaries, revealing a relation between anatomical, chemical, and physiological borders. In addition, the question is asked what the smallest operational unit of the cerebellum might be. Furthermore, it has become clear that chemical diversity of Purkinje cells also results in diversity of information processing between cerebellar modules. An additional important consideration is the relation between modular compartmentalization and the organization of the mossy fiber system, resulting in the concept of modular plasticity. Finally, examination of cerebellar output patterns suggesting cooperation between modules and recent work on modular aspects of emotional behavior are discussed. Despite the general consensus that the cerebellum has a modular organization, many questions remain. The authors hope that this joint review will inspire future cerebellar research so that we are better able to understand how this brain structure makes its vital contribution to behavior in its most general form

    Real Life Study of Lenvatinib Therapy for Hepatocellular Carcinoma: RELEVANT Study

    Introduction: In the REFLECT trial, lenvatinib was found to be noninferior compared to sorafenib in terms of overall survival. Here, we analyze the effects of lenvatinib in the real-life experience of several centers across the world and identify clinical factors that could be significantly associated with survival outcomes. Methods: The study population was derived from retrospectively collected data of HCC patients treated with lenvatinib. The overall cohort included western and eastern populations from 23 center in five countries. Results: We included 1,325 patients with HCC and treated with lenvatinib in our analysis. Median OS was 16.1 months. Overall response rate was 38.5%. Multivariate analysis for OS highlighted that HBsAg positive, NLR >3, and AST >38 were independently associated with poor prognosis in all models. Conversely, NAFLD/NASH-related etiology was independently associated with good prognosis. Median progression-free survival was 6.3 months. Multivariate analysis for progression-free survival revealed that NAFLD/NASH, BCLC, NLR, and AST were independent prognostic factors for progression-free survival. A proportion of 75.2% of patients suffered from at least one adverse effect during the study period. Multivariate analysis exhibited the appearance of decreased appetite grade ≥2 versus grade 0-1 as an independent prognostic factor for worse progression-free survival. 924 patients of 1,325 progressed during lenvatinib (69.7%), and 827 of them had a follow-up over 2 months from the beginning of second-line treatment. From first-line therapy, the longest median OS was obtained with the sequence lenvatinib and immunotherapy (47.0 months), followed by TACE (24.7 months), ramucirumab (21.2 months), sorafenib (15.7 months), regorafenib (12.7 months), and best supportive care (10.8 months). Conclusions: Our study confirms in a large and global population of patients with advanced HCC, not candidates for locoregional treatment the OS reported in the registration study and a high response rate with lenvatinib
