Cocirculation of Hajj and non-Hajj strains among serogroup W meningococci in Italy, 2000 to 2016

In Italy, B and C are the predominant serogroups among meningococci causing invasive diseases. Nevertheless, in the period from 2013 to 2016, an increase in serogroup W Neisseria meningitidis (MenW) was observed. This study intends to define the main characteristics of 63 MenW isolates responsible of invasive meningococcal disease (IMD) in Italy from 2000 to 2016. We performed whole genome sequencing on bacterial isolates or single gene sequencing on culturenegative samples to evaluate molecular heterogeneity. Our main finding was the cocirculation of the Hajj and the South American sublineages belonging to MenW/ clonal complex (cc)11, which gradually surpassed the MenW/cc22 in Italy. All MenW/cc11 isolates were fully susceptible to cefotaxime, ceftriaxone, ciprofloxacin, penicillin G and rifampicin. We identified the fulllength NadA protein variant 2/3, present in all the MenW/cc11. We also identified the fHbp variant 1, which we found exclusively in the MenW/cc11/Hajj sublineage. Concern about the epidemic potential of MenW/cc11 has increased worldwide since the year 2000. Continued surveillance, supported by genomic characterisation, allows high-resolution tracking of pathogen dissemination and the detection of epidemicassociated strains

Role model (in) advertising?

The article concentrates on analysing the growing interest of academics in studying advertisements. While arguing why this perspective of reading literature may bring interesting critical results, the article focuses mainly on the character of Anna Csillag and its evolution through the twentieth century. Originally Anna Csillag was created as an advertising strategy to be used in selling hairgrowth cream. Boasting beautiful hair, the character grew in popularity across Europe, turning into a public icon of the first half of the twentieth century. Anna Csillag appears as a fictional character in Bruno Schultz’s story Księga (The Book). The article also traces other references to this figure in the twentieth and twenty-first century literary and artistic works

Conditioned by Dress – The Relationship between Mind, Fashion, Film & Performance.

This is the first monograph in the Pocket Book Series Practices of Transdisciplinarity, a co-publishing collaboration between the ArtEZ Academy in the Netherlands and the London College of Fashion. 'Practices of Transdisciplinarity' examines creative research practices that cross the traditional boundaries assigned to art and design disciplines. Anna-Nicole Ziesche's: Conditioned by Dress - The Relationship between Mind, Fashion, Film and Performance' opens the series. This combined visual and text-based publication is the first book to present an overview of Anna-Nicole Ziesche’s films. Her early work investigates methods for composing fashion ‘looks’, using simple film editing techniques to manipulate, magnify and repeat the decorative details of cloth onto the body. We discover her unique research process that uses story telling and performance to explore the relationship between self-perception and dress. Anna-Nicole is also a sculptor; she re-constructs her dreams, building installations in which she subjects the body to poetic narratives inspired by her experiences of fashion. Within these installations Anna-Nicole and her ‘dressed’ characters perform both physically and psychologically. Film and photography are mediums where "to dress" takes on a new meaning. Spanning trees of 3-uniform hypergraphs

Masbaum and Vaintrob's "Pfaffian matrix tree theorem" implies that counting spanning trees of a 3-uniform hypergraph (abbreviated to 3-graph) can be done in polynomial time for a class of "3-Pfaffian" 3-graphs, comparable to and related to the class of Pfaffian graphs. We prove a complexity result for recognizing a 3-Pfaffian 3-graph and describe two large classes of 3-Pfaffian 3-graphs -- one of these is given by a forbidden subgraph characterization analogous to Little's for bipartite Pfaffian graphs, and the other consists of a class of partial Steiner triple systems for which the property of being 3-Pfaffian can be reduced to the property of an associated graph being Pfaffian. We exhibit an infinite set of partial Steiner triple systems that are not 3-Pfaffian, none of which can be reduced to any other by deletion or contraction of triples. We also find some necessary or sufficient conditions for the existence of a spanning tree of a 3-graph (much more succinct than can be obtained by the currently fastest polynomial-time algorithm of Gabow and Stallmann for finding a spanning tree) and a superexponential lower bound on the number of spanning trees of a Steiner triple system.Comment: 34 pages, 9 figure

Dr Michael Asbury curated an exhibition at Camden Arts Centre of the artist Anna Maria Maiolino. The artist produced an installation with clay that relates to notions of difference and repetition, the idea of the first/primal gesture, ephemerality, cyclical/recycling, etc...Students integrated with the team of volunteers producing these pieces in collaboration with the artist. The seminar was literally a ‘hands on’ experience, where issues were discussed while producing the object. As one of the most significant artists working in Brazil today, Italian-born Anna Maria Maiolino, presented a new, site-specific installation and a selection of film works made over the last 30 years. Anna Maria Maiolino was born in Italy in 1942 and moved to Brazil at the age of eighteen. Studying painting in Rio de Janeiro her artistic career took shape in the 1960s and 1970s, a key period in Brazilian art when artistic experimentation clashed with a repressive political regime. Employing diverse disciplines and mediums including clay, ink, film and performance, Anna Maria Maiolino’s work retains a fundamental concern with creative and destructive processes and with identity; from the subjective to the universal. For the exhibition at Camden Arts Centre, Maiolino created an installation using several hundred kilograms of clay. Created by manually rolling and shaping the clay into hundreds of rolls or balls, the basic shapes used in ceramics, the installation refers to everyday tasks, to the individual, society and language; each piece retaining distinctive marks of its manufacture and collectively creating an imposing structure. The exhibition will also included selected films made by Maiolino over the last 30 years, including Y, (1974) and +&- (1999)

Anna Marie D\u27Amico

Dr. D’Amico entered Jefferson Medical College in 1968 after spending three years as a biology major at Catholic University of America in Washington D.C. After graduating from Jefferson in 1972 she did her internship and residency at Wilmington General Hospital before going into practice on her own in 1976. Dr. D’Amico retired from practice in 2007. Since then she has volunteered at the Claymont Family Health Clinic, a clinic for the uninsured, and from 2009-2011 she was the Medical Director of Planned Parenthood of Delaware. Most recently she is the Medical Director of a new medical spa.
