    Get PDF
The theoretical part of the paper presents some basics of the laser cutting technology and principles. The characteristics of the CO2 laser beam and the parameters entering the laser cutting process are described. The conventionally used material – S235JR steel, method of its laser cutting and the effect of process technological parameters on the cut area characteristics are presented as well. Experimental investigations were performed on samples made of the S235JR steel, with application of different laser cutting technological parameters, while observing the surface roughness Rz and Ra. Roughness results are displayed as images of the scanned cutting surface geometry and graphically for each sample, with comparison between the individual test samples. Effects of the position of the laser beam focus point, the cutting speed and assist gas pressure on the cut surface roughness are analyzed. It was concluded that the laser cutting parameters impose significant influence on the cut surface quality

Identifying the cause of cutting tool failure by using simulation software

    No full text
The article is focused on the construction problems of cutting tools designed for manufacturing components in high numbers. Analysis of the tool with low lifetime is provided with the use of simulation software to detect the causes of the tool failure. Parameters of the simulation are close to the real conditions of the tool in production. The results from the simulation indicate that the bending moment occurs in the tool because of forces which have opposite direction on different areas. On these basis technological adjustments are made. These adjustments are also analysed by using simulation software

    No full text
Simulations of the welding process for applications of practice using SYSWELD are presented. This paper presents simulation of welding in the repair of high-pressure gas pipeline with steel sleeve with composite filling. Material of experimental sample was steel S355. The simulations in SYSWELD divided in to two parts: the thermal simulation followed by the mechanical simulation. The results of the numerical model, which are listed in article are compared to real experiments

Finite element simulation of laser cutting process of steel sheet

    No full text
Lasers are widely used in industry as cutting tools due to ultra flexibility of the cutting conditions, obtaining high quality end product, quick set up, non-mechanical contact between the workpiece and the tool, and small size of the heat affected zone. In the present study, laser gas assisted cutting process is examined. The laser cutting sheet solution is practically always very convenient compared to conventional technologies and brings the greatest cost savings in the manufacturing process

Adhesive Joints with Laser Shaped Surface Microstructures

    No full text
One of the most commonly applied methods of joining dissimilar materials is gluing. This could be mainly attributed to the applicability of this technique in various industries. The article presents a method of material surface treatment, which increases the shear strength of adhesive joints for lightweight metals such as aluminum with plastics. For this purpose, laser surface microstructuring was performed on each of the selected construction materials. As a result of the performed treatment, the active surface of the glued area was increased, which increased the adhesive strength. The picosecond laser with UV radiation used in the research is TruMicro 5325c with which material can be removed as a result of the cold ablation phenomenon. The applied parameters of the laser device did not cause thermal damage to the surface of the microstructured materials, which was confirmed by microscopic examination. Laser micromachining did not deteriorate the degree of wetting of the tested materials, either, as was confirmed by the contact angle and surface energy measurements with the use of water as the measuring liquid. In investigated cases of microstructure types, the presented method significantly increased the shear strength of the joints formed, as demonstrated by the presented strength test results. Research has shown that created joints with microstructure made according to the described method, are characterized by a significant increase in strength, up to 376%, compared to materials without microstructure. The presented results are part of a series of tests aimed at selecting the operating laser parameters for the implementation of geometric shapes of microstructures which will increase the strength of adhesive joints in selected materials
