A Novel Framework for Highlight Reflectance Transformation Imaging

    Get PDF
We propose a novel pipeline and related software tools for processing the multi-light image collections (MLICs) acquired in different application contexts to obtain shape and appearance information of captured surfaces, as well as to derive compact relightable representations of them. Our pipeline extends the popular Highlight Reflectance Transformation Imaging (H-RTI) framework, which is widely used in the Cultural Heritage domain. We support, in particular, perspective camera modeling, per-pixel interpolated light direction estimation, as well as light normalization correcting vignetting and uneven non-directional illumination. Furthermore, we propose two novel easy-to-use software tools to simplify all processing steps. The tools, in addition to support easy processing and encoding of pixel data, implement a variety of visualizations, as well as multiple reflectance-model-fitting options. Experimental tests on synthetic and real-world MLICs demonstrate the usefulness of the novel algorithmic framework and the potential benefits of the proposed tools for end-user applications.Terms: "European Union (EU)" & "Horizon 2020" / Action: H2020-EU.3.6.3. - Reflective societies - cultural heritage and European identity / Acronym: Scan4Reco / Grant number: 665091DSURF project (PRIN 2015) funded by the Italian Ministry of University and ResearchSardinian Regional Authorities under projects VIGEC and Vis&VideoLa

    Get PDF

A Coarse-grained model for diffusion in zeolites based on clustering of short MD trajectories

    Get PDF
Zeolites form a class of microporous aluminosilicates of great interest due to their multifarious applications in industry and everyday life. Their porous structure allows small molecules to be adsorbed and to diffuse inside crystals, and depending on the zeolite type and on the diffusant species a variety of behaviours is possible. Molecular Dynamics is now widely used in order to understand the microscopic mechanisms of adsorption and diffusion occurring within these materials as well as in MOFs and ZIFs. A major drawback of MD for this kind of systems is its high computational cost, so that coarse-grained methods, speeding up simulations without losing the essential features of dynamics, are valuable tools for exploring the behaviour of guest molecules on time and space scales hardly, if at all, reachable with ordinary MD. The first step in our proposed method is the clustering of MD trajectories to obtain a discretized version of the motion of adsorbed molecules within the zeolite. Each pore in the aluminosilicate is partitioned in a number of regions and each point in the original trajectory is mapped to the proper region based on a distance criterion. The regions correspond roughly to the main basins in the potential energy surface (PES)

The current study is part of an international research on the psychometric properties of Global Guidelines Assessment tool developed by the Association of Childhood Education International (Italian version named “IGA – Indicazioni Globali per l’Autovalutazione”). Participants were 23 teachers and 9 pedagogical coordinators from kindergartens run by the Municipality of Parma (Italy). The results show strong internal consistency for the IGA as well as moderate interrater consistency.

Building the Web of Things with WS-BPEL and Visual Tags. Web of Things using Service-oriented Architecture standards

    Get PDF
The Web of things is an emerging scenario in which everyday objects are connected to the Internet and can answer to HTTP queries with structured data. This paper presents a system that allows users to build networks of everyday objects using visual tags as proximity technology. The system backend is based on Service-oriented Architecture languages and tools for the runtime composition of “things” establishing connections we call hyperpipes.357-36

Itv as a community-to-community collaborative system

    Get PDF
Web-forums and Instant Messengers provide a unique opportunity for the users to create and support spontaneous communities. However, such systems tend to focus on the one-to-one and one-to-many approaches. Community-to- Community interaction, described as two groups of people which communicate by means of a network, is still missing. This work describes early implementation of an interactive television (iTV) chat system, which dynamically creates chat rooms where users can discuss, share their TV experience and access web resources.337-33
