Azimuthal correlation in DIS
We introduce the azimuthal correlation for the deep inelastic scattering
process. We present the QCD prediction to the level of next-to-leading log
resummation, matching to the fixed order prediction. We also estimate the
leading non-perturbative power correction. The observable is compared with the
energy-energy correlation in e+e- annihilation, on which it is modelled. The
effects of the resummation and of the leading power correction are both quite
large. It would therefore be particularly instructive to study this observable

Accessing transversity with interference fragmentation functions
We discuss in detail the option to access the transversity distribution
function by utilizing the analyzing power of interference
fragmentation functions in two-pion production inside the same current jet. The
transverse polarization of the fragmenting quark is related to the transverse
component of the relative momentum of the hadron pair via a new azimuthal
angle. As a specific example, we spell out thoroughly the way to extract
from a measured single spin asymmetry in two-pion inclusive
lepton-nucleon scattering. To estimate the sizes of observable effects we
employ a spectator model for the fragmentation functions. The resulting

Utilization of ANC and PNC services in Nepal : A multivariate analysis based on Nepal Demographic Health Survey 2001 and 2006
Background: Maternal Mortality is a public health problem in Nepal, which was highest in 1990 among the South Asian countries. Associated factors of maternal mortality are various; among them maternal health sevices such as antenatal (ANC) and postnatal care (PNC) services are the main. Methods: A multivariate secondary data analysis out based on Nepal Demographic Health Surveys 2001 and 2006. Logistic regression models was performed to compare the utilization of the ANC and PNC services, with background characteristics of women aged between 15 to 49 years old. Results: A total of 8913 reproductive aged groups (15-49) women were taken f or analysis and the mean age was 28.59±7.040 years. Logistic regression analysis revealed that health facility delivery (AO R=1.297, 95% CI=1.135-1.481), PNC check-up at health facility (AOD=4.442, 95% CI=2.815-7.011) and PNC service wit h a skilled health worker (AOD=4.533, 95% CI=2.753- 7.465) utilized more in 2006 compared to 2001. This study also found that highly educated women had (AOD, 95% CI=10.823- 22.968) more utilized the heath facility during pre gnancy and (AOD, 95% CI=2.194-16.950) more likely during a PNC check- up, whereas, educated women were less (AOR=0.043, 9 5% CI=0.007-0.254) likely consult with a skilled professional. Similarly, antenatal care (ANC) visits (4 or more than four) and ANC visit in the first trimester were increased (95% CI=1.137- 1.518) and (AOD=1.041, 95% CI=0.924-1.173) respectively. This study found that educated women, those who were living in urban areas, were more likely to use maternal health services compared to other regions. Conclusion: Increased in utilization of the ANC and PNC services through skilled health workers in a health facility among cohorts of educated women. However, the improvements were not equally distributed across the all regions in the country. This utilization of maternal health services is not sufficient to achieve the MDG goal. Because, health facility delivery is poor and counterpart home delivery is still high in Nepal
Pneumococcal Colonisation Rates in Patients Admitted to a UK Hospital with Lower Respiratory Tract Infection - a prospective case-control study
BACKGROUND
Current diagnostic tests are ineffective at identifying the aetiological pathogen in hospitalised adults with lower respiratory tract infection (LRTI). The association of pneumococcal colonisation with disease has been suggested as a means to increase diagnostic precision. We compared pneumococcal colonisation rate and density of nasal pneumococcal colonisation by a) classical culture and b) quantitative real time lytA Polymerase Chain Reaction (qPCR) in patients admitted to hospital in the UK with LRTI compared to control patients.
METHODS
826 patients were screened for inclusion in this prospective case-control study. 38 patients were recruited, 19 with confirmed LRTI and 19 controls with another diagnosis. Nasal wash (NW) was collected at the time of recruitment.
RESULTS
Pneumococcal colonisation was detected in 1 LRTI patient and 3 controls (p=0.6) by classical culture. Using qPCR pneumococcal colonisation was detected in 10 LRTI patients and 8 controls (p=0.5). Antibiotic usage prior to sampling was significantly higher in the LRTI than control group 19 v. 3 (p8000 copies/ml on qPCR pneumococcal colonisation was found in 3 LRTI patients and 4 controls (p > 0.05).
CONCLUSIONS
We conclude that neither prevalence nor density of nasal pneumococcal colonisation (by culture and qPCR) can be used as a method of microbiological diagnosis in hospitalised adults with LRTI in the UK. A community based study recruiting patients prior to antibiotic therapy may be a useful future step
Parkinson disease-linked Vps35 R524W mutation impairs the endosomal association of retromer and induces α-synuclein aggregation
Endosomal sorting is a highly orchestrated cellular process. Retromer is a heterotrimeric complex that associates with endosomal membranes and facilitates the retrograde sorting of multiple receptors, including the cation-independent mannose 6-phosphate receptor for lysosomal enzymes. The cycling of retromer on and off the endosomal membrane is regulated by a network of retromer-interacting proteins. Here, we find that Parkinson disease-associated Vps35 variant, R524W, but not P316S, is a loss-of-function mutation as marked by a reduced association with this regulatory network and dysregulation of endosomal receptor sorting. Expression of Vps35 R524W-containing retromer results in the accumulation of intracellular α-synuclein-positive aggregates, a hallmark of Parkinson disease. Overall, the Vps35 R524W-containing retromer has a decreased endosomal association, which can be partially rescued by R55, a small molecule previously shown to stabilize the retromer complex, supporting the potential for future targeting of the retromer complex in the treatment of Parkinson disease
Effective role of unpolarized nonvalence partons in Drell-Yan single spin asymmetries
We perform numerical simulations of the Sivers effect from single spin
asymmetries in Drell-Yan processes on transversely polarized protons. We
consider colliding antiprotons and pions at different kinematic conditions of
interest for the future planned experiments. We conventionally name "framework
I" the results obtained when properly accounting for the various flavor
dependent polarized valence contributions in the numerator of the asymmetry,
and for the unpolarized nonvalence contribution in its denominator. We name
"framework II" the results obtained when taking a suitable flavor average of
the valence contributions and neglecting the nonvalence ones. We compare the
two methods, also with respect to the input parametrization of the Sivers
function which is extracted from data with approximations sometimes
intermediate between frameworks I and II. Deviations between the two approaches
are found to be small except for dilepton masses below 3 GeV. The Sivers effect
is used as a test case; the arguments can be generalized to other interesting
azimuthal asymmetries in Drell-Yan processes, such as the Boer-Mulders effect.Comment: 13 pages, 9 figures in eps forma
Modeling of the Super-Eddington Phase for Classical Novae: Five IUE Novae
We present a light curve model for the super-Eddington luminosity phase of
five classical novae observed with IUE. Optical and UV light curves are
calculated based on the optically thick wind theory with a reduced effective
opacity for a porous atmosphere. Fitting a model light curve with the UV 1455
\AA light curve, we determine the white dwarf mass and distance to be (1.3
M_sun, 4.4 kpc) for V693 CrA, (1.05 M_sun, 1.8 kpc) for V1974 Cyg, (0.95 M_sun,
4.1 kpc) for V1668 Cyg, (1.0 M_sun, 2.1 kpc) for V351 Pup, and (1.0 M_sun, 4.3
