Background: Postpartum blood loss is difficult to evaluate especially in developing countries like India where most of the women are anaemic with poor reserve and these conditions are further aggravated by increased demand during pregnancy and blood loss during third stage of labour. The present study was planned to compare the efficacy of prophylactic 10 IU intramuscular oxytocin and 10 IU intramuscular oxytocin +1g Tranexamic acid in reducing blood loss in the third stage of labour. Methods: The present study was carried out on full term pregnancies primigravida/ multiparas with singleton pregnancy being delivered vaginally at GSL Hospital, Rajahmundry between 2016-2017 were included. For this comparative study, 200 women in labor were included after obtaining informed consent. A detailed obstetric history, history of previous medical illnesses, history of the treatment received earlier, cardiovascular and respiratory system and other systems including thyroid and breast were noted. Results: The average total blood loss in IIIrd stage of labour with IM oxytocin was 210 ml and with IM oxytocin + Tranexamic acid was130 ml, which was statistically significant (p<0.001). Oxytocin + Tranexamic acid group had less blood loss when compared to oxytocin group alone. Side effects like, nausea vomiting, headache were slightly more with oxytocin + Tranexamic acid group when compared to oxytocin group alone. Conclusions: In the active management of IIIrd stage of labour 10 IU intramuscular Oxytocin + one gram of tranexamic acid IV is a better combination in reducing the blood loss at delivery when compared to 10 IU intramuscular oxytocin alone

Correlations and periodicities in Himalayan tree ring widths and temperature anomalies through wavelets

We have studied periodicities and correlation properties of tree ring width chronology of deodar tree from Joshimath (1584 - 1999 years) and Uttarkashi (1500 - 2002 years) in the western Himalayas and the pre-monsoon (March-April-May) temperature anomalies (1876 - 2003) relative to 1961 - 1990 mean, through wavelet analysis. Periodic behavior is observed in the tree ring chronology with periodicity in the form 11, 22, and 42 years. The analysis of the self-similar nature reveals longrange correlation with a Hurst exponent, H > 0.5. These are anti-correlated with the temperature anomalies. An interesting inversion behavior is observed around the year 1750. The power spectral analysis of the time series corroborate the results of wavelet method

Spectral fluctuation characterization of random matrix ensembles through wavelets

A recently developed wavelet based approach is employed to characterize the scaling behavior of spectral fluctuations of random matrix ensembles, as well as complex atomic systems. Our study clearly reveals anti-persistent behavior and supports the Fourier power spectral analysis. It also finds evidence for multi-fractal nature in the atomic spectra. The multi-resolution and localization nature of the discrete wavelets ideally characterizes the fluctuations in these time series, some of which are not stationary.Comment: 7 pages, 2 eps figure

Secure E-Tendering Using Identity Based Encryption from Bilinear Pairings

An electronic tender system (e-tender) streamlines the tender process and thereby saves time and cost. Security requirements for e-tendering systems have not been closely scrutinized in the literature. In addition to the security concerns of conventional e-tender systems—authentication, integrity, privacy, and non-repudiation are provided. This paper identifies key issues to be addressed in the design of secure e-tendering systems. Key issues are the privacy protection and verifiability. A new e-tendering architecture, based on Identity Based Encryption from bilinear pairings is proposed which may be suitable for secure large scale operations. A Encryption is a scheme that provides private and authenticated delivery of message between tenderer and tenderee. This is done in a more efficient manner than a straight forward composition of an encryption followed by signature scheme. An Identity based Cryptosystem is one in which the public key may be as String (E-mail Address, PAN No., etc). We propose Identity based encryption for secure e-tendering system that satisfies all the requirements an ideal atomic system requires. The elegant design makes it efficient both in computation and in communication. Secure e-Tendering System is carrying out of the tendering process using electronic means, such as the internet and specialist e-tendering software applications with a secured scheme

The silylalkyne-Prins cyclization: a novel synthesis of 4-iododihydropyrans

    No full text
The silylated secondary homopropargylic alcohols undergo smooth coupling with aldehydes in the presence of molecular iodine under mild reaction conditions to produce 4-iododihydropyrans in good yields. This method is highly stereoselective, affording cis-dihydropyrans exclusively
