312 p.Thesis (Ph.D.)--University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, 2007.An integrated incompressible fluid dynamics model was developed to investigate the impact of gas flow on radical generation and surface treatment. Convective gas flow alters the relative abundance of reactive species in the discharge that affects the surface composition. Continuous surface processing was simulated, wherein radicals formed on the polymer move out of the discharge zone but continue to react downstream. Changes in gas composition affect the relative importance of local reaction kinetics and convective transport of reactive species in the discharge.U of I OnlyRestricted to the U of I community idenfinitely during batch ingest of legacy ETD
