    Insights into the chemical biology of childhood embryonal solid tumors by nmr-based metabolomics

    Most childhood cancers occur as isolated cases and show very different biological behavior when compared with cancers in adults. There are some solid tumors that occur almost exclusively in children among which stand out the embryonal solid tumors. These cancers main types are neuroblastoma, nephroblastoma (Wilms tumors), retinoblastoma and hepatoblastomas and tumors of the central nervous system (CNS). Embryonal solid tumors represent a heterogeneous group of cancers supposedly derived from undifferentiated cells, with histological features that resemble tissues of origin during embryogenesis. This key observation suggests that tumorigenesis might begin during early fetal or child life due to the errors in growth or pathways differentiation. There are not many literature data on genomic, transcriptomic, epigenetic, proteomic, or metabolomic differences in these types of cancers when compared to the omics- used in adult cancer research. Still, metabolomics by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) in childhood embryonal solid tumors research can contribute greatly to understand better metabolic pathways alterations and biology of the embryonal solid tumors and potential to be used in clinical applications. Different types of samples, such as tissues, cells, biofluids, mostly blood plasma and serum, can be analyzed by NMR to detect and identify cancer metabolic signatures and validated biomarkers using enlarged group of samples.     Calcium oxide as a promising heterogeneous catalyst for biodiesel production: Current state and perspectives

    The present paper is an overview of the recent progress in the development of various CaO-based catalysts suitable for biodiesel production. The mechanism, kinetics and optimization of transesterification reaction over these catalysts are first considered. Then, the practical application of CaO-based catalysts is discussed with a special stress on leaching and reusability of these catalysts. Also, various continuous reactor systems currently in use for biodiesel production are appraised. In addition to it, purification of crude biodiesel and the ecological aspects of using CaO-based catalysts are considered. Finally, the potentials of CaO-based catalysts for heterogeneous catalysis for biodiesel production are emphasized to assess the future perspectives of their use. This review might help in selecting suitable CaO-based catalysts and the optimum reaction conditions for biodiesel production

    Positive Touch Deprivation during the COVID-19 Pandemic: Effects on Anxiety, Stress, and Depression among Italian General Population

    Physical distancing due to the COVID-19 Pandemic has limited the opportunities for family members, friends, and significant others to show physical affection (i.e., hugs, kisses, caresses, holding hands) during social interactions. The present study investigated the effects of positive touch and psychological distress in 991 Italian participants (Mage = 34.43, SD = 14.27). Results showed the frequency of hugs with the cohabiting partner significantly decreased the symptoms of depression (β = −1.187, p = 0.018, eβ = 0.30, 95% CI = 0.11–0.82), whereas the frequency of caresses with cohabiting relatives predicted the symptoms of anxiety (β = 0.575, p = 0.034, eβ = 1.78, 95% CI = 1.04–3.03). The frequency of hugs (β = −0.609, p = 0.049, eβ = 0.54, 95% CI = 0.30–1.00), and kisses (β = 0.663, p = 0.045, eβ = 1.94, 95% CI = 1.01–3.71) with non-cohabiting relatives predicted the symptoms of anxiety (χ2 = 1.35, df = 5, p = 0.93). These results suggest the importance of positive touch on psychological well-being in the social context
