Sustainable Campus Income Generation Initiative and Social Entrepreneurship at a Public University

Campuses with substantial acreage have the advantage of biodiversity, populace, and facilities that would allow the initiation of multi projects for income generation and sustainability.  For Universiti Teknologi MARA Cawangan Selangor (UCS), the fish pekasam project originated from the natural resources available on campus, which are the twelve lakes inhabited with tilapias and other fishes. Elements of social entrepreneurship from the sale of the pekasam (fermented) fish allowed for income generation to the campus. Aside from that, direct training was given to the students and staff who participated in the project. Applying Translational Research in University-Industry Collaboration through Crab Farming for Socio-Economic Alleviation of Disadvantage Communities

Innovations can be translated into social entrepreneurship to benefit disadvantage communities. This paper narrates the social entrepreneurship project between Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) and Universiti Teknologi MARA Cawangan Selangor (UCS). UNIMAS’s crab cage innovation was implemented at the Pulau Salak community in Santubong, Sarawak. The social entrepreneurship expertise was provided by UCS. The translational research cum collaborative project has improved the living standards by exploiting on the built environment which is perfect for crab farming. Aquaculture as a cash crop will ensure food security and significant economic growth. Identifying Needy Students for University-Industry Snapfeed Program

This paper aims to provide empirical evidence on the university students’ nutritional habits and peer pressure on food purchases. In addition, the motivations for the study were the media highlights on poverty among public university students that led to hunger. A survey was conducted with a sample size of 1,000 students; the response rate was 80%. The findings revealed the dietary patterns from money spent on food. Cross-tabulation between family income and the number of daily meals per day showed that students coming from a low-income background have satisfactory nutritional habits, but lack of money meant lesser meals or food insecurity. Hence, a snapfeed program for low-income student to assist with daily food intake was suggested.   Keywords: Needy students; poverty; dietary habits; food insecurity eISSN: 2398-4287 © 2019. To Farm or Not to Farm: Cuniculture Issues Towards Green Marketing Practices at Hilir Perak, Malaysia

Climate change, global warming, and population increase have sparked the need to reorient Malaysia's food security strategy by adopting green marketing practices in agriculture production. The paper explored green marketing awareness practices among the small-scale cuniculture farmers at Cenderong Balai-Sg. Manik, Hilir Perak, Malaysia. From the qualitative method, the analysis indicated that the rabbit farmers needed to be aware of and practice green marketing strategies. The study's implications showed that eco-friendly packaging products, for instance, will benefit the environment. A balance has to be reached for the farmers to be more innovative in selling their products for environmental sustainability

Reviewing the Silent Enemy of Faculty Mobbing

The objectives of this review article are to highlight the prevalence of faculty mobbing through literature search and analyses. In an academic environment where most of the populace is involved in tertiary education, it is expected that mobbing or bullying would occur in the uncivilized surrounding. However, the opposite is true; faculty mobbing is a silent enemy in an academic setting, and there is a need to improve the situation to preserve the auspices of a university. The findings indicated that mobbing is endemic at universities and will threaten the university's reputation. Elderly Welfare and Quality of Life: A qualitative inquiry

As the elderly population increases in Malaysia, media-reported spates on elderly abuse and neglect formed the motivation for the study. The objectives of this paper are to showcase the findings on elderly welfare and neglect via two-phase, qualitative design inquiry. The findings revealed that home-cared elderly parents reported a steady quality of life with isolated incidences of neglect. Culture, tradition, and religion play essential roles in elderly care and emotional well-being. Implications from the study evidenced the importance of elderly welfare for societal inclusion and quality of life. Overview of Fishing Activities as Therapy for University Students towards Mental Wellness

The reported increase in university students with mental health issues has resulted in the recommendation of recreational activity. Therefore, this paper provides overviews of previous studies and literature evidencing physical activities that have been effective in reducing stress levels regardless of age and gender. Fishing is the advocated activity as therapy for pre-identified students with mental health issues that have impeded their quality of life. Collaborative, Capacity Development Efforts: A case of Kampung Hujung Rintis, Perak and UiTM Cawangan Selangor, Malaysia

Public universities have been directed to have more collaborative projects with disadvantaged communities for capacity and sustainable developments. In the case of Universiti Teknologi MARA, Selangor Branch (UCS), the success stories on community engagement and capacity development have been shown with Kampung Hujung Rintis, Perak, Malaysia. This paper aims to showcase impacts on collaborative efforts through a live research laboratory for data collection using multiple techniques. The feedbacks from cross-disciplinary projects were for the implementation of capacity-development initiatives at Kampung Hujung Rintis. Assessing of Customer Perception on Innovation of Food Service

In the highly competitive business environment, the restaurant industry critically strives to maintain their services particularly to customer's evaluation, changes in customer preferences and rapid of fast food and international restaurant that make business in Malaysia. As a local entrepreneur of the restaurant, they need several strategies to innovate their services to tackle their customer in highly competitive and make an improvement to another level standing with the international restaurant. Thus, a descriptive study was conducted to explore the perception of the customer towards several elements of innovation which are healthier food, modification of menu items, increase in food service options, technology advancement, environment sustainability, inclination towards global cuisines apply to one of the selected local restaurants. The survey was distributed to 235 of customers who walked into the restaurant and the finding revealed that healthier food, modification of menu items, food service options, technology advancement, environment sustainability inclination towards global cuisines and focus on customer of new generations are highly demand by the customers. The finding of this study also implies the effective practices that will be used in order to make an improvement, being creative and innovative of the restaurant product and services for the future
