    Isolation of keratinophilic fungi and aerobic actinomycetes from park soils in Gorgan, North of Iran

    Background: Keratinophilic fungi are a group of fungi that colonize in various keratinous substrates and degrade them to the components with low molecular weight. This study was conducted to determine the prevalence of keratinophilic fungi and aerobic Actinomycetes in soil of city parks in Gorgan. Objectives: In this study, we surveyed the city park soils of Gorgan (a northern province of Iran) to determine the identities and diversity of soil aerobic Actinomycetes, keratinophilic and non-keratinophilic fungi. Materials and Methods: A total of 244 soil samples were collected from 22 diferent parks of Gorgan, North of Iran. The samples were collected from the superfcial layer with depth not exceeding than 0-10 cm in sterile polyethylene bags. We used hair bait technique for isolation keratinophilic fungi. The colonies identifed by macroscopic and microscopic characterization after slide culturing. Actinomycetes were isolated by antibiotic dilution methods and detected by using physiological tests such as Lysozyme, Casein, Xanthine, Hypoxanthine, Gelatin, Urea Broth, and modifed acid-fast stain. Results: Totally, 75 isolates of aerobic Actinomycetes were detected that Actinomadura madurae and Nocardia asteroides were the most prevalent strains, with 14.66 and 28% prevalence respectively. Microsporum gypseum was more frequent than other keratinophilic fungi (22.96%) and Aspergillus spp. was the most species of saprophyte fungi (15.92%). Conclusions: This study showed that the collected soil from studied areas was rich of keratinophilic fungi and Actinomycetes, therefore hygiene protocol should be taken to prevent the spread of pathogenic and saprophytes fungi in the environment of susceptible person. © 2013, Ahvaz Jundishapur University of Medical Sciences

    Effects of NaCl stress on blood glucose and cortisol in common crap (Cyprinus carpio)

    In this study, the fluctuation of two parameters of blood glucose and cortisol hormone were investigated in different salinities in Cyprinus carpio. Seven tanks with 100 lit. volume were used and different salinities of 0, 3, 6, 12, 15 and 18 ppm were choosen as treatments. Then, 16 specimen of common carps (each 50-90 g weight) were added to the tanks. In periBds of 12 up to 96 hours, the blood sample was taken from each fish for further measurment of parameters. The results showed that all fishes died at 18 ppm salinity within less than 12 hours. The blood glucose indicated high sensitivity to the higher salinity. In this research, blood glucose had a reange of 13.5 to 321.0 mg/dc.lit and also, cortisol showed a fluctuation from 10 up to 70 µg/dc. lit and its concentration had a direct relationship with increasing the salinity

    Quantum communication between trapped ions through a dissipative environment

    We study two trapped ions coupled to the axial phonon modes of a one-dimensional Coulomb crystal. This system is formally equivalent to the "two spin-boson" model. We propose a scheme to dynamically generate a maximally entangled state of two ions within a decoherence-free subspace. Here the phononic environment of the trapped ions, whatever its temperature and number of modes, serves as the entangling bus. The efficient production of the pure singlet state can be exploited to perform short-ranged quantum communication which is essential in building up a large-scale quantum computer.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figure

    Developing the Job Description for Diabetes Nurse Specialists: A Modified Delphi Approach

    Background: The first step to establish a new academicmajor is the need assessment and extraction of professional and specialized tasks. Objectives: The current study aimed to identify and describe the duties of diabetes nurse specialists. Methods: This needs assessment study was performed using modified Delphi technique in Isfahan in 2014 - 2015. The study population consisted of patients with diabetes and their families, nurses, endocrinologists, diabetologists and nursing faculty members. The study was conducted in three rounds: first, through qualitative interviews and focus group discussions, the duties and tasks of diabetes nurse specialists were extracted, then a questionnaire was designed and in two consecutive rounds, the experts expressed their opinions about the tasks. Results: The first round of modified Delphi technique resulted in 500 initial codes. According to these codes, 164 duties were classified into seven categories. In the second round of Delphi approach, the experts reached to 100% consensus in 126 tasks. According to the participants, 74 of the 126 duties were similar, overlapping and inappropriate, and thus were eliminated. In the last round of the study according to the opinions of the experts, 15 more tasks were added to the previous list. Finally, job description for diabetes nurse specialist was developed in six tasks on professional responsibilities, 17 tasks on the area of education, 25 tasks regarding caring and treatment, 6 tasks on society and 13 tasks on management. Conclusions: This study led to identification and classification of diabetes nurse specialist duties. The findings can help nursing faculties and other institutes to develop task based educational programs for nurses in diabetes management

    Epidemiological Study of Poisoning in Patients Referring Educational and Clinical Center of Ayatollah Kashani Hospital, Shahrekord (West of Iran) throughout 2008-2014

    Background: Appropriate and early diagnosis and treatment of poisoning could be vital. Awareness of general pattern of poisoning in any geographical regions could be helpful in this regard. According to the lack of information and not being specified the epidemiologic forms of poisoning in Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari province (west of Iran), this study was carried out to determine the epidemiologic status of poisoning.Methods: In this routine data base study, available data were used in medical records of 394 patients with poisoning diagnosis throughout 2008-2014 at Ayatollah Kashani Hospital (only recipient hospital of poisoning in Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari province), which affiliated with Shahrekord University of Medical Sciences. Association between the studies was variable and also reasons for poisoning was investigated by chi-square, analysis of variance, independent t-test, Pearson's correlation in stata software.Results: Of 395 patients with poisoning, 207 (52.5%) were female and the rest were male. For the years under study, the highest poisoning ratio (20.26%) was seen in 2010 and the lowest (3%) in 2014. Mean age of all, male and female patients was 27.6 , 29.8, and 25.6 years, respectively, with a significant difference between male and female patients (P<0.05).The mean and standard deviation of duration of hospitalization in respiratory patients was 3.2±4.2, injection 3±3.8, oral 2.5±3, others 2±1.2, and bite was 2 days (P>0.05).The highest poisoning ratio (62%) was obtained for oral poisonings and the lowest (0.5%) was due to beating. For marital status, the highest poisoning ratio was obtained in the single individuals and the lowest in the divorced (P<0.05). Of 395 patients, 358 (90.6%) survived and the rest died. The highest mortality (17 deaths) was due to oral poisoning.Conclusion: Poisoning occurs often in young people and has a high load in this group. Trend of poisoning in this province is steadily diminishing. Epidemiological, regional data helps to use the sources appropriately to prevent and control poisoning. Further, analysis of the effective factors could contribute to decreasing poisoning incidence by planners and policymakers

    Exotic quark effects on the Higgs sector of the USSM at the LHC

    The Higgs sector of the U(1)-extended supersymmetric model is studied with great detail. We calculate the masses of the Higgs bosons at the one-loop level. We also calculate at the one-loop level the gluon-involving processes for the productions and decays of the scalar Higgs bosons of the model at the energy of the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC), where the radiative corrections due to the loops of top, bottom, and exotic quarks and their scalar partners are taken into account. We find that the exotic quark and exotic scalar quarks in the model may manifest themselves at the LHC, since the production of the heaviest scalar Higgs boson via gluon fusion processes is mediated virtually by the loops of exotic quark and exotic scalar quarks, for a reasonable parameter set of the model.Comment: 36 pages, 13 figures, JP
