Massive Hyper-Kahler Sigma Models and BPS Domain Walls
With the non-Abelian Hyper-Kahler quotient by U(M) and SU(M) gauge groups, we
give the massive Hyper-Kahler sigma models that are not toric in the N=1
superfield formalism. The U(M) quotient gives N!/[M! (N-M)!] (N is a number of
flavors) discrete vacua that may allow various types of domain walls, whereas
the SU(M) quotient gives no discrete vacua. We derive BPS domain wall solution

Can We Detect the Anisotropic Shapes of Quasar HII Regions During Reionization Through The Small-Scale Redshifted 21cm Power Spectrum?
Light travel time delays distort the apparent shapes of HII regions
surrounding bright quasars during early stages of cosmic reionization.
Individual HII regions may remain undetectable in forthcoming redshifted 21 cm
experiments. However, the systematic deformation along the line of sight may be
detectable statistically, either by stacking tomographic 21cm images of quasars
identified, for example, by JWST, or as small-scale anisotropy in the
three-dimensional 21cm power spectrum. Here we consider the detectability of
this effect. The anisotropy is largest when HII regions are large and expand
rapidly, and we find that if bright quasars contributed to the early stages of
reionization, then they can produce significant anisotropy, on scales
comparable to the typical sizes of HII regions of the bright quasars (approx.
30 Mpc and below). The effect therefore cannot be ignored when analyzing future
21cm power spectra on small scales. If 10 percent of the volume of the IGM at
redshift z=10 is ionized by quasars with typical ionizing luminosity of S= 5 x
10^{56} photons/second, the distortions can enhance by more than 10 percent the
21cm power spectrum in the radial (redshift) direction, relative to the
transverse directions. The level of this anisotropy exceeds that due to
redshift-space distortion, and has the opposite sign. We show that on-going
experiments such as MWA should be able to detect this effect. A detection would
reveal the presence of bright quasars, and shed light on the ionizing yield and
age of the ionizing sources, and the distribution and small-scale clumping of

Treatment of dogs with compensated myxomatous mitral valve disease with spironolactone-a pilot study
Spironolactone improves outcome in dogs with advanced myxomatous mitral valve disease (MMVD). Its efficacy in preclinical MMVD is unknown. The hypothesis was the administration of spironolactone to dogs with compensated MMVD demonstrating risk factors for poorer prognosis will decrease the rate of disease progression. The aim was to provide pilot data to evaluate preliminary effects and sample size calculation for a definitive clinical trial

HIV-1 infection of microglial cells in a reconstituted humanized mouse model and identification of compounds that selectively reverse HIV latency.
Most studies of HIV latency focus on the peripheral population of resting memory T cells, but the brain also contains a distinct reservoir of HIV-infected cells in microglia, perivascular macrophages, and astrocytes. Studying HIV in the brain has been challenging, since live cells are difficult to recover from autopsy samples and primate models of SIV infection utilize viruses that are more myeloid-tropic than HIV due to the expression of Vpx. Development of a realistic small animal model would greatly advance studies of this important reservoir and permit definitive studies of HIV latency. When radiation or busulfan-conditioned, immune-deficient NSG mice are transplanted with human hematopoietic stem cells, human cells from the bone marrow enter the brain and differentiate to express microglia-specific markers. After infection with replication competent HIV, virus was detected in these bone marrow-derived human microglia. Studies of HIV latency in this model would be greatly enhanced by the development of compounds that can selectively reverse HIV latency in microglial cells. Our studies have identified members of the CoREST repression complex as key regulators of HIV latency in microglia in both rat and human microglial cell lines. The monoamine oxidase (MAO) and potential CoREST inhibitor, phenelzine, which is brain penetrant, was able to stimulate HIV production in human microglial cell lines and human glial cells recovered from the brains of HIV-infected humanized mice. The humanized mice we have developed therefore show great promise as a model system for the development of strategies aimed at defining and reducing the CNS reservoir
Torsion cycles as non-local magnetic sources in non-orientable spaces
Non-orientable spaces can appear to carry net magnetic charge, even in the
absence of magnetic sources. It is shown that this effect can be understood as
a physical manifestation of the existence of torsion cycles of codimension one

Duality in Non-Trivially Compactified Heterotic Strings
We study the implications of duality symmetry on the analyticity properties
of the partition function as it depends upon the compactification length. In
order to obtain non-trivial compactifications, we give a physical prescription
to get the Helmholtz free energy for any heterotic string supersymmetric or
not. After proving that the free energy is always invariant under the duality
transformation and getting the zero temperature
theory whose partition function corresponds to the Helmholtz potential, we show
that the self-dual point is a generic singularity
as the Hagedorn one. The main difference between these two critical
compactification radii is that the term producing the singularity at the
self-dual point is finite for any . We see that this behavior at
