Background: The purpose of this study is to assess perception of Saudi women of childbearing age regarding prenatal care. Methods: Participants were invited to participate in a voluntary online survey. The brief survey consisted of 15 basic multiple choice questions administered in Arabic, and delivered as a secure link through private social media messaging services. The survey permitted only 1 attempt per user. In order to reach and capture non-respondents, 2 follow-up reminders 10 days apart were sent through the same channels of communication. The survey data was collected and analyzed using the survey software platform, Qualtrics by Qualtrics © LLC 2017.Results: Approximately 9% of participants reported previous pregnancy without use of prenatal care. Nearly 12% of respondents thought that prenatal care is only indicated for malnourished pregnant females, and 7% reported not knowing who prenatal care is specifically indicated for. Nearly 21% reported prenatal care should start after confirmation of pregnancy, 14% thought proper start is anytime within the first 3 months, 8% reported proper start should be after confirmation of healthy pregnancy and 8% reported not sure when to initiate prenatal care. Approximately 12% thought taking prenatal vitamins should be once weekly or some days of the week, while 5% do not advice women to take prenatal vitamins during pregnancy at all. Conclusions: The majority of Saudi women are well educated on prenatal care. However, women in early and late twenties are less aware of proper usage of prenatal care

Objective: Comprehensive knowledge in medication therapy and safety is an important skill for healthcare providers to master. Effective and safe use of pain and anti-inflammatory medications in teaching dental clinics requires a comprehensive knowledge base of the various drug agents. The purpose of this study is to assess the knowledge and perception of student dentists in various dental schools in Saudi Arabia in the use of pain and anti-inflammatory drug therapies. This study could help identify common areas for collaboration and improvement in healthcare delivery between pharmacy and dental medicine in Saudi Arabia. Methods: 328 student dentists enrolled in traditional six-year dental program in Saudi Arabia were invited to participate in a voluntary online survey. The brief survey consisted of 21 multiple choice questions and was delivered as a secure link through email and private social media messaging services. The survey permitted only 1 attempt per user. In order to reach out and capture non-respondents, 2 follow-up reminders - 10 days apart - were sent through the same channels of communication. The data collection and statistical analysis of this study is conducted using the online survey platform, Qualtrics. Results: The response rate was 22.6% (74 out of 328). Approximately 77% (n=58) of participants were third, fourth, fifth and sixth year students. Nearly 50% (n=38) of respondents indicated that they have treated patients with pain and inflammation before, and nearly 94% (n=70) of respondents indicated that they counsel patients to take medications as prescribed. However, 66% (n=49) reported not knowing how non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug therapy is discontinued. Approximately 70% (n=51) of respondents prefer to approach a pharmacist with drug therapy questions. Nearly 31% (n=18) of third, fourth, fifth and sixth year students indicated that they use paracetamol as an anti-inflammatory agent. Conclusion: Among data reported in this survey, evidence of gaps in knowledge in pain and anti-inflammatory pharmacotherapy is shown. There is need for inter-professional collaboration between pharmacy and dental medicine in Saudi Arabia to help close gaps in knowledge for students. More research is needed among a larger sample of student dentists to develop a better understanding of the type of collaboration effort require

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Mentoring programs, a practical tool commonly used by universities, can serve to help new students adapt to challenging college life. Peer mentorship offers the potential for professional development of student pharmacists. EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITY AND SETTING: The Raabe College of Pharmacy at Ohio Northern University implemented a peer mentoring program in 2014. This study evaluates the impact of that program on new student pharmacists. A post-program survey was completed evaluating students\u27 career perception, emotional stability, academic success, and student perception of the program\u27s influence on these areas. FINDINGS: The results indicated that 71.7% of respondents found the mentoring program helpful in their transition to college, and that 60.4% of respondents would somewhat likely or extremely likely stay active in the mentoring program. DISCUSSION: Peer mentorship may serve as a tool to assist student acclimation to the expectations of a professional degree program. SUMMARY: It was concluded that the pharmacy mentorship program at the Raabe College of Pharmacy at Ohio Northern is making a positive impact on first-year students by engaging them in the pharmacy program and aiding their transition from high school to college
