Learning Negotiating Behavior Between Cars in Intersections using Deep Q-Learning

    Get PDF
This paper concerns automated vehicles negotiating with other vehicles, typically human driven, in crossings with the goal to find a decision algorithm by learning typical behaviors of other vehicles. The vehicle observes distance and speed of vehicles on the intersecting road and use a policy that adapts its speed along its pre-defined trajectory to pass the crossing efficiently. Deep Q-learning is used on simulated traffic with different predefined driver behaviors and intentions. The results show a policy that is able to cross the intersection avoiding collision with other vehicles 98% of the time, while at the same time not being too passive. Moreover, inferring information over time is important to distinguish between different intentions and is shown by comparing the collision rate between a Deep Recurrent Q-Network at 0.85% and a Deep Q-learning at 1.75%.Comment: 6 pages, 7 figures, Accepted to IEEE International Conference on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITSC) 201

The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of product, price, promotion, and distribution channels both partially and simultaneously on the consumer's decision to buy processed chicken products at Thor Chicken Restaurant Samarinda. The population in this study are consumers who buy and know processed chicken products at Thor Samarinda Chicken Restaurant with an unknown number of customers, so the sample based on regression analysis with 4 independent variables requires a sample adequacy of 50 samples. Focusing on the dependent variable of the purchase decision and the independent variables namely product, price, promotion and distribution channels. Data analysis using multiple linear regression.Based on the research results, the product has a positive and insignificant effect on consumer purchasing decisions (tcount value (1.291) α = 0.05). Based on the research results, price has a positive and insignificant effect on consumer purchasing decisions (tcount value (0.480) α = 0.05). Based on the research results, promotion has a positive and insignificant effect on consumer purchasing decisions (tcount value (1.564) α = 0.05). Based on the research results, the distribution channel has a positive and significant effect on consumer purchasing decisions (tcount value (4.206) > ttable (2.014) at α = 0.05 and a significance value of 0.000 Ftable (2.580) at α = 0.05)

Governing Financial Disputes in China: What Have We Learned From the Global Financial Crisis of 2008?

In light of the recent global financial crisis of 2008, this article critically compares how China\u27s national arbitration commissions and local courts are responding to new challenges brought about by an increase in the number of banking related disputes. Drawing on comparative case analysis, the article examines the operation of the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC) and the Shanghai Courts\u27 financial dispute resolution mechanisms in resolving financial disputes. Drawing on insights from selected case findings, it provides insight into which institution is best positioned to handle financial-related cases, discusses prospects for coordination between the two, and sets out proposals for further reform. Initial findings suggest that given CIETAC\u27s limited exposure to banking and financial-sector disputes, in the immediate term, parties should seek resolution through local financial division dispute resolution mechanisms, such as the financial division of the Shanghai Courts. In the long term, prospects for greater strengthening of national mechanisms such as CIETAC and the Securities Dispute Resolution scheme will provide additional avenues of recourse

Exploring understandings of Pacific values in New Zealand educational contexts: Similarities and differences among perceptions

Case studies exploring how educational policies can help teachers serve learners disadvantaged through cultural marginalization are urgently needed to inform education systems internationally. The study reported here explored perceptions of Pacific cultural values at the heart of education policy in New Zealand that were intended to improve opportunities of learners with Pacific heritage. Participants included early childhood, primary, secondary, and tertiary teachers of Pacific and non-Pacific heritage. Data included interviews and teaching observations. Results indicate that the Pacific values can be more deeply felt, understood, and enacted by Pacific teachers than their non-Pacific counterparts. Results are discussed in relation to tenets of culturally sustaining pedagogy and aspects of the Pacific-based Fonofale model. Implications of this work include that initial and in-service teacher education must assist teachers to develop working understandings of values as they are felt and experienced by policy target groups. This study contributes to the literature by discussing how a culturally-embedded model can be a useful tool towards ensuring teachers can understand cultural nuances inherent within educational policy and align their practice with these

Exploring Faculty Mindsets in Equity-Oriented Assessment

The COVID-19 pandemic and the resultant move to remote learning in 2020-2021 paved the way for deeper conversations about assessment practices in higher education. Over the last two years, there have been an increasing number of discussions about alternative assessments and about equity in assessment. This study examined the impact of a course (entitled “Equity in Assessment”) delivered by the authors on the participants’ understandings of equity and assessment. We used semi-structured interviews to collect data from the participants. Data collected from six interviews were systematically and thematically analysed in line with Braun and Clarke’s (2006) six stages of conducting thematic analyses. The data analysis resulted in three main emergent themes: flexibility, academic rigour, and wellness. The implications of the findings of this project are important for educational developers, institutional leadership, and researchers
