Improving the Partial-Global Stochastic Metropolis Update for Dynamical Smeared Link Fermions

We discuss several methods that improve the partial-global stochastic Metropolis (PGSM) algorithm for smeared link staggered fermions. We present autocorrelation time measurements and argue that this update is feasible even on reasonably large lattices.Comment: 3 pages, 3 figures, Lattice2002(algor

    The Prospects for Fusion Emergence

    Get PDF
This paper raises some concerns about Paul Humphreys’ fusion emergence in general and about his core example of fusion emergence (i.e., covalent bonding) in particular. It argues that the extent to which covalent bonding undermines the idea that our world’s ontology is wholly compositional has been overstated

Using Approximating Polynomials in Partial-Global Dynamical Simulations

    Get PDF
Smeared link fermionic actions can be straightforwardly simulated with partial-global updating. The efficiency of this simulation is greatly increased if the fermionic matrix is written as a product of several near-identical terms. Such a break-up can be achieved using polynomial approximations for the fermionic matrix. In this paper we will focus on methods of determining the optimum polynomials.Comment: 3 pages, 3 figures, Lattice2002(algor

    Arithmetic Levi-Civita connection

This paper is part of a series of papers where an arithmetic analogue of classical differential geometry is being developed. In this arithmetic differential geometry functions are replaced by integer numbers, derivations are replaced by Fermat quotient operators, and connections (respectively curvature) are replaced by certain adelic (respectively global) objects attached to symmetric matrices with integral coefficients. Previous papers were devoted to an arithmetic analogue of the Chern connection. The present paper is devoted to an arithmetic analogue of the Levi-Civita connection
