SpectroscopicTechniques and DFT Calculations to Understand Charge Transport Mechinisms in OFETs
The organic electronics research field has advanced tremendously in the last decades, but there is still an incomplete understanding of the main mechanisms governing charge injection and transport in such devices. The performance of organic semiconductors is governed not only by their molecular structures but also by their intermolecular assembly in the solid state. Here we use a combination of Raman spectroscopy and charge modulation spectroscopy (CMS) to gather information on molecular and supramolecular levels, of organic semiconductors [1,2] (Figure 1) [3]. This last one is an optical-spectroscopy technique conducted on a real OFETs, that allows us to study in situ the charge carriers present at the semiconductor-dielectric interface, where the largest contribution to charge transport occurs. [3] In this communication we will present the study of the bithiophene imide (BTIn) molecules which exhibit encouraging electron mobilities in OFETs [1,2], by using the spectroscopic techniques presented above, supported by DFT quantum chemical calculations in order to shed light on the mechanism of charge transport in OFETs.Universidad de MĂĄlaga. The birds and the bees : gender performance in Grandville's ScÚnes de la vie privée et publique des animaux
Published between 1840 and 1842, J. J. Grandvilleâs ScĂšnes de la vie privĂ©e et publique des animaux is a hybrid work of satirical allegory that stages the scandals, polemics, and power struggles of the July Monarchy through a collection of illustrations by Grandville and stories written to accompany them. The printed image significantly disrupted artistic hierarchies of the period and sparked heated debates about both the expertise of illustrators and the possibilities of the image, described by Philippe Kaenel as an âinstrument of seductionâ. Scholarly engagement with ScĂšnes des animaux has all but ignored gender, yet the increased visibility of women in the publishing industry during the July Monarchy permanently altered the terms of modern artistic legitimacy. In this paper, I demonstrate that gender has been conceptualized, represented, and reified in terms of animality and evolutionary discourses in Grandvilleâs text. Drawing on Alexandra Wettlauferâs analysis of the dialectic between word and image at play in Scenes des animaux, as well as Bakhtinian polyphony and Eve Sedgwickâs concept of erotic triangles, I consider the work in terms of a triple dialectic between word, image, and gender. Through the figures of bird and bee and their associated verbal tropes, Grandville, Hetzel, and Balzac all link women to consumerism, materialism, stupidity, and sensuality. This set of associations distance women from the field of âlegitimateâ literary production and disempowers them as sociopolitical agents. At the same time, the overdetermined containment strategies employed by the contributors reveal that they rely on women as their primary reading public and clientele. Economic anxiety has been displaced onto the body of the animal-woman, and the contributors dress up their objections with the accoutrements of conservative morality. In titling this project âThe Birds and the Beesâ âa euphemism used to explain sex and courtship to small childrenâ I call attention to the persistence of animal metaphors related to gender and sexuality in contemporary culture.Comparative Literatur
Obituary â Emeritus Professor Dr John Davidson McCraw (1925â2014) MBE, MSc NZ, DSc Well, CRSNZ, FNZSSS.
John McCraw was an Earth scientist who began working as a pedologist with Soil Bureau, DSIR, then became the Foundation Professor of Earth Sciences at the University of Waikato in Hamilton, inspiring a new generation to study and work in Earth sciences . In retirement, John McCraw was an author and historian with a special emphasis on Central Otago as well as the Waikato region. Throughout his career, marked especially by exemplary leadership, accomplished administration, and commitment to his staff and students at the University of Waikato, John McCraw also contributed to the communities in which he lived through public service organizations and as a public speaker. He received a number of awards including an MBE, fellowship, and companionship, and, uniquely, is commemorated also with a glacier, a fossil, and a museum-based research room named for him. Emeritus Professor John McCraw passed away on the 14th of December, 2014. An obituary, entitled âDedicated to earth science and his studentsâ, was published in the Waikato Times on the 10th of January, 2015
