BACKGROUND: Epidermal growth factor (EGF) and its receptor (EGFR) constitute a principal growth-promoting pathway in endometrial cancer cells. Pre-clinical studies were undertaken to compare the expression of EGFR isoforms and the downstream effects of activating or blocking EGFR function in Ishikawa H cells, derived from a moderately differentiated type I endometrioid adenocarcinoma, or in Hec50co cells, derived from a poorly differentiated type II adenocarcinoma with papillary serous sub-differentiation. RESULTS: We investigated whether EGFR mutations are present in the tyrosine kinase domain (exons 18-22) of EGFR and also whether EGFR isoforms are expressed in the Ishikawa H or Hec50co cell lines. Sequence of the EGFR tyrosine kinase domain proved to be wild type in both cell lines. While both cell lines expressed full-length EGFR (isoform A), EGFR and sEGFR (isoform D) were expressed at significantly lower levels in Hec50co cells compared to Ishikawa H cells. Analysis of gene expression following EGF vs. gefitinib treatment (a small molecule EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitor) was performed. Early growth response 1, sphingosine kinase 2, dual specificity phosphatase 6, and glucocorticoid receptor DNA binding factor 1 are members of a cluster of genes downstream of EGFR that are differentially regulated by treatment with EGF compared to gefitinib in Ishikawa H cells, but not in Hec50co cells. CONCLUSIONS: Type I Ishikawa H and type II Hec50co endometrial carcinoma cells both express EGFR and sEGFR, but differ markedly in their responsiveness to the EGFR inhibitor gefitinib. This difference is paralleled by differences in the expression of sEGFR and EGFR, as well as in their transcriptional response following treatment with either EGF or gefitinib. The small cluster of differently regulated genes reported here in these type I vs. type II endometrial cancer-derived cell lines may identify candidate biomarkers useful for predicting sensitivity to EGFR blockade

Although there has been considerable research on the impact of corporate governance on corporate voluntary disclosure, empirical evidence on how governance affects compliance with mandatory disclosure requirements is limited. We contribute to governance and disclosure literature by examining the impact of corporate governance on compliance with IFRS 7 for the banking sector in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). We use a self-constructed disclosure index to measure compliance with IFRS 7. We use regression analyses to examine the impact of board characteristics, audit committee characteristics and ownership structure on compliance with IFRS 7. Using a sample of 335 bank-year observations for GCC listed banks over the period 2011–2017, we report evidence that corporate governance variables affect compliance with IFRS 7. However, the significance of these variables depends on the type of the regression model used. Our findings suggest that governance matters for mandatory disclosure requirements. So to improve the level of compliance, regulators, official authorities, and policymakers should intensify their efforts toward improving corporate governance codes, following up their implementation and enhancing the enforcement mechanisms

Based on the results of the needs analysis, the learning resources used by teachers are still limited. Teachers need to develop innovative and contextual teaching materials so that students can better understand them. Regional marine tourism can be used as a learning resource, especially in descriptive text material. This study aims to describe the integration of Jumiang Beach marine tourism as a descriptive text teaching material. This research uses descriptive qualitative method. In this research, the object of research is the seventh grade students of SMP Tsamrotul Ulum. Data was collected through interviews, observation, and documentation. Interviews were conducted with Indonesian language teachers and seventh grade students. Observations were made by visiting the Jumiang Beach tourist attraction as material for making learning videos. The results of the analysis show that Jumiang Beach tourism objects are very relevant and useful to use as descriptive text teaching materials because the objects described are close to students, add insight and knowledge, students understand the material better because they seem to see objects directly through learning videos in teaching materials, and students feel interested and happy because they learn through interactive teaching materials so that learning becomes more meaningful. It can be concluded that Jumiang Beach which is integrated in interactive descriptive text teaching materials gets very good and positive responses from teachers and students. Keywords:  Tourism; Jumiang Beach; Interactive Teaching Material

The impact of urban housing prices on labour mobility: evidence from cities in China

Urban development relies heavily on labour, while the change in urban housing prices, in turn, has a crucial impact on labour. Therefore, the regulatory policies of housing prices have become a critical content of urban management worldwide for a long time. Based on the theoretical analysis of urban housing prices and labour mobility, we use fixed-effect panel model with the panel data of 281 cities in China from 2002 to 2018. We study the impact of rising urban housing prices on labour and identify the housing price jump as an instrumental variable in solving the endogenous problem. The results are as follows. First, the increase in urban housing prices has a crowding-out effect on labour mobility. Second, there is a moderating effect on different levels of education, urban construction, and income under the impact of urban housing prices on labour mobility. Third, the heterogeneity of the impact is reflected in the housing price-to-income ratios and industrial structures. These conclusions are supposed to have significant enlightenment for controlling the urban housing prices during high-quality economic growth and guiding labour flow more rationally

The quality of life has greatly improved in the recent years due to the use of robotics. Amputees require smart prosthetic devices that are easy to use in everyday life. To make these prosthetic devices one has to interface with the end user seamlessly in a reliableyet reducing cost. Hand gesture recognition is the process of detecting the by hand at any given time. Surface EMG signals are used to detect hand gestures and signal them as input module in developing prosthetics for rehabilitation and human machine interaction. This study is to develop classification model to classify six hand gestures using Artificial Intelligent algorithm. Data signal for different hand gestures such as wave-in, wave-out, fist, fingers spread, double pinch as well as relax, from 30 subjects age between 20 to 35 years old are obtained using Myo armband sensors. There are two hundred forty-eight features that are extracted from time domain and the frequency domain. Neighbourhood Component Analysis (NCA) are used as features selection technique has reduced the features to fourteen. The features are for developing classification models using three algorithms that include k-Nearest Neighbour (K-NN), Support Vector Machine (SVM), and Convolution Neural Network(CNN). 80% of the data used by the classifier is used for training while the rest 20% Is used for testing. The outcome shows that classification model using K-NN algorithm with 14 features has the highest classification accuracy, sensitivity and predictivity of97.99%, 94.77% and 92.95% respectively compared to other models from SVM and CNN. This developed model can be used in the future to integrate the EMG signals of amputees with the prosthetic hand. This integration will help on the development of control strategy of the prosthetic hand
