    Utilization of common grasses by goats in two seasons

    The effect of feeding freshly-cut common grasses on growth performance of Black Bengal goats during the pre-monsoon and pre-dry season was evaluated. Four castrated goats of 5-6 months age with a mean initial body weight were 11.17 and 10.23 kg for pre-monsoon and pre-dry season respectively, were used as experimental animal. Nutrient component, intake of different nutrients and its effect on body weight changes were determined. Common grass harvested during the pre-monsoon season contained higher nitrogen (15.6 g/kg) and less DM (196.8 g/kg) than the grass harvested in pre-dry season where nitrogen was 12.8 g/kg and DM was 454.9 g/kg. Intake of DM, OM, N, and NDF were 73.12 g, 67.12 g, 964.68 mg and 50.14 g/kg W0.75 respectively in pre-monsoon were higher than those in pre-dry season at p < 0.01 level of significance. Higher (p < 0.01) growth (35.71 g/day) rate was found in pre-monsoon season. It may concluded that grasses grown during the pre-monsoon season was higher nitrogen value and appeared to be more palatable

    Investigation of interoperability between building information modelling (BIM) and building energy simulation (BES)

    Building Information Modelling (BIM) has become an emerging digital technology in the architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) industry. There is a growing demand on applying BIM for sustainable design including the building energy simulation (BES). Lack of sufficient interoperability has caused barriers to utilize the information from BIM for BES. In this study, the interoperability between BIM and four different BES tools (i.e., Ecotect, EQUEST, Design Builder and IES-VE) was explored by using a case study of a residential building in the design stage. The misrepresented information from BIM to multiple BES tools were identified based on six different categories of building information parameters. The research proposed an approach of creating gbXML file with an improved integrity of information in BIM. Overall, this study would lead to further work in developing platforms for improving the information transformation from BIM to BES

    Experimental determination of the state-dependent enhancement of the electron-positron momentum density in solids

    The state-dependence of the enhancement of the electron-positron momentum density is investigated for some transition and simple metals (Cr, V, Ag and Al). Quantitative comparison with linearized muffin-tin orbital calculations of the corresponding quantity in the first Brillouin zone is shown to yield a measurement of the enhancement of the s, p and d states, independent of any parameterizations in terms of the electron density local to the positron. An empirical correction that can be applied to a first-principles state-dependent model is proposed that reproduces the measured state-dependence very well, yielding a general, predictive model for the enhancement of the momentum distribution of positron annihilation measurements, including those of angular correlation and coincidence Doppler broadening techniques

    Linear stability, transient energy growth and the role of viscosity stratification in compressible plane Couette flow

    Linear stability and the non-modal transient energy growth in compressible plane Couette flow are investigated for two prototype mean flows: (a) the {\it uniform shear} flow with constant viscosity, and (b) the {\it non-uniform shear} flow with {\it stratified} viscosity. Both mean flows are linearly unstable for a range of supersonic Mach numbers (MM). For a given MM, the critical Reynolds number (ReRe) is significantly smaller for the uniform shear flow than its non-uniform shear counterpart. An analysis of perturbation energy reveals that the instability is primarily caused by an excess transfer of energy from mean-flow to perturbations. It is shown that the energy-transfer from mean-flow occurs close to the moving top-wall for ``mode I'' instability, whereas it occurs in the bulk of the flow domain for ``mode II''. For the non-modal analysis, it is shown that the maximum amplification of perturbation energy, GmaxG_{\max}, is significantly larger for the uniform shear case compared to its non-uniform counterpart. For α=0\alpha=0, the linear stability operator can be partitioned into LLˉ+Re2Lp{\cal L}\sim \bar{\cal L} + Re^2{\cal L}_p, and the ReRe-dependent operator Lp{\cal L}_p is shown to have a negligibly small contribution to perturbation energy which is responsible for the validity of the well-known quadratic-scaling law in uniform shear flow: G(t/Re)Re2G(t/{\it Re}) \sim {\it Re}^2. A reduced inviscid model has been shown to capture all salient features of transient energy growth of full viscous problem. For both modal and non-modal instability, it is shown that the {\it viscosity-stratification} of the underlying mean flow would lead to a delayed transition in compressible Couette flow

    Momentum dependence of drag coefficients and heavy flavour suppression in quark gluon plasma

    The momentum dependence of the drag coefficient of heavy quarks propagating through quark gluon plasma (QGP) has been evaluated. The results have been used to estimate the nuclear suppression factor of charm and bottom quarks in QGP. We observe that the momentum dependence of the transport coefficients plays crucial role in the suppression of the heavy quarks and consequently in discerning the properties of QGP using heavy flavours as a probe. We show that the large suppression of the heavy quarks observed at RHIC and LHC is predominantly due to the radiative losses. The suppression of D0D^0 in Pb+Pb collisions at LHC energy - recently measured by the ALICE collaboration has also been studied.Comment: Minor changes in the tex
