The graduate training programme of Jubail Industrial College, Saudi Arabia : a case study of the status and relevance of the graduate qualifications
This study examines the status of the technical qualifications accorded to graduates in the training programme at Jubail Industrial College, one of two English-medium colleges in Saudi Arabia, and in particular attempts to assess the relevance of these qualifications to their employment, from the points of view of the graduates and of their employers.The study uses a sample population taken from technical graduates and their employers in the six cities of the Eastern Region, to evaluate the attitudes of these two groups by means of questionnaires (90%) and interviews (10%), intended to reveal the strengths and weaknesses of the College's training programme. As an adjunct it also seeks to examine the expectations of students who have undertaken their Co-operative Training Programme but not yet entered into employment. It uses the One-Sample T-Test to determine the mean levels of satisfaction of the individual groups and then of the three groups together. The Analysis of Variance Test (ANOVA) and Pair-Wise Comparison Test (Tukey HSD) are used to test differences between the means of the three groups.The study is divided into nine chapters. Chapter I sets out the aims of the research and describes the College's role in training students for work in industry. Chapter II gives an overview of Saudi Arabia, including its educational system and especially technical education and vocational training. Chapter III describes the Royal Commission for Jubail and Yanbu and then focuses on the College, highlighting its mission within the country's economic development and detailing its programmes. Chapter IV describes the policy of economic diversification to reduce dependence on oil and Chapter V reviews the relevant literature on technical and vocational education in Saudi Arabia and elsewhere. Chapter VI reiterates the aims of the study and explains the null hypotheses associated therewith, as well as the associated factors and elements. Chapter VII presents and analyses the data obtained with respect to the respondents' levels of satisfaction with the factors and elements, and thereafter Chapter VIII discusses the results and draws conclusions about the validity of the null hypotheses, identifying possible causes for the levels of satisfaction expressed. Finally, Chapter IX provides a summary, makes recommendations for the improvement of the College programme, for industrial organisations and for policy makers, and gives suggestions for further research
The Degree of Implementing Total quality Management by School Female Principals in Public School in Mafraq Governorate
The purpose of this study is to investigate the degree of implementing total quality management by school female principals in public school in Mafraq governorate. The researcher developed a questionnaire consisted of (32) items distributed into five domains and administrated it on (30) female principals in public school in Northern Badia Educational District in Mafraq governorate. The findings of the study showed that the means of the application degree of TQM in public schools by Jordanian female principals ranged between (3.21 – 2.63) showing an average degree of application. Moreover, there are significant statistical differences at the level of (? =0.05) attributed to scientific qualification in all domains and in the tool as a whole in favor of gradate studies ( Master and PhD) against Bs degree. There are significant statistical differences at the level of (? =0.05) attributed to experience in implementing Total quality management in all domains except for school facilities domain in favor of10years and more. A Finite Difference Time Domain Study on the Design of Microwave Catheters
.An investigation of the design aspects along with proposed improvements in the construction of microwave ablation catheters are reported in this thesis. The computational methods used to carry out this research include an in-house created cylindrical coordinate rotationally symmetric Finite Difference Time Domain (FDTD) scheme.
Firstly, a systematic means of modelling and designing microwave catheters is proposed. The method capitalizes on the rotationally symmetric nature of the microwave catheter and reduces the design from three dimensions to a two-dimensional problem.
Secondly issues related to resonant frequency and leaky waves, an inherent property of microwave ablation, are investigated and subsequent solutions are proposed. For the issue of resonant frequency, the addition of a terminating cap halves the catheter’s resonant frequency allowing for acceptable return loss, less than -10 dB, at a resonant frequency of 2.7 GHz without a sleeve choke and 2.45 GHz with a choke.
Several designs are investigated in order to eliminate the power coupled into waves travelling along the coaxial feedline’s exterior. The proposed catheter design with the sleeve choke is successful at eliminating surface waves whilst attaining a return loss of -14.61 dB at resonance. The internally matched catheter is equally as effective and attains a return loss of -49.39 dB at resonance while the catheter with a floating sleeve only partially reduces the amplitude of surface waves whilst achieving a return loss of -39.08 dB at resonance. The effectiveness of adding a dielectric cylinder around the monopole in order to improve return loss, bandwidth and overall Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) distribution is also investigated.
Near to far field transformations are implemented and the far field pattern of the catheter is shown to be that of a dipole, at resonance. Furthermore, a dispersive FDTD algorithm is developed to incorporate a metamaterial plug. The effects of this are shown to be highly dependent on the dielectric properties of the metamaterial and act to lower the resonant frequency allowing for overall length reductions. Finally, the bioheat equation is investigated and is implemented in the context of microwave catheters by analyzing temperature rise at varying radial distances from the catheter
School Violence and its Effects on Children's Attitudes towards Education and their Academic Achievement: Research Study
The purpose of this study is to determine the level of violence against school children in the Gaza Strip, and to understand its causes and its impact on the children's level of anxiety and attitudes towards learning. Stratified random sample was taken. The sample consisted of 300 students in the ninth grade from Nuseirat refugee camp, and the number of valid questions was 247. The researchers used three tools to identify the level of school violence against children, their level of anxiety, their attitudes towards learning, and their academic achievement. The results of the study show that the children studied here were subject to a high degree of physical and psychological violence from their teachers who practiced violence on them as a form of punishment. The results also show that there were statistically significant differences in the level of violence against children between students in governmental schools, private schools and UNRWA schools for the favor of UNRWA students. In addition, there were statistically significant differences based on gender for the favor of female teachers.Moreover, the results show that there were statistically significant differences in the degree of anxiety of children between students exposed to low-level of violence and students exposed to high level of violence in favor of students exposed to high level of violence. Furthermore, the results show that there were statistically significant differences in the degree of children's attitudes towards learning between students exposed to low-level of violence and students exposed to high level of violence in favor of students exposed to low level of violence.The results also show that there were statistically significant differences in the degree of the academic achievement of children between students exposed to low-level of violence and students exposed to high level of violence in favor of students exposed to low level of violence. Recovery of silver from used X-ray film using alkaline protease from Bacillus subtilis sub sp. subtilis
Silver is an important industrial metal used in several areas such as photographic and x-ray films, jewelries, silver wares and electronic objects. Silver is used for photographic film/x-ray film because of its matchless quality as a light-sensitive material for making a photographic image. Silver is not destroyed in the photographic process and it can be reused and recovered. Results have proven that, bacterial alkaline protease can be used to extract silver in 30 min, but its activity decreases with increasing incubation period. Gelatin hydrolysis was monitored by measuring the increase in turbidity of the hydrolysate, which was accompanied by release of protein and hydroxyproline. The protease of the culture filtrate used was 97 U/ml after 30 min, but it decreased to 86.5U/ml after 60 min. After 90 min, it reached 85 U/ml. A great inactivation was recorded after 120 min; it got to 39.5 and 36.5% (U/ml) after 180 min. Gelatin layer was stripped completely within 30 min with 97 U ml-1 protease at 50°C and pH 8. At the end of the treatment, gelatin layer was completely removed and the polyester film was left clean. Successful repair of blunt injury of aortic arch branches in the setting of bovine arch
Intrathoracic great vessels injuries are usually fatal and represent a special surgical challenge. We report a successful surgical repair for blunt disruption of the three aortic arch branches in the setting of bovine arch anatomy. The repair was achieved without the use of cardiopulmonary bypass or arterial shunts. There was no clinical or radiologic evidence of neurologic abnormality after the repair
Training and Development on Employees’ Performance of APM Terminal, Kingdom of Bahrain
It has been argued that training and development improves an organization's ability to be knowledge-intensive while enabling employees to effectively take up totally new jobs or tasks. T&D offers the organization the opportunity to better both long-term and short-term efficiency and productivity. It is a result of having the right skills to maintain increased productivity and performance. This study is a direct offshoot of this logic. The investigation is conducted at APM Terminals Bahrain involving 200 conveniently sampled rank and file employees. The study utilized a descriptive research design and adopted a questionnaire for data gathering. The results of the study showed that APM has implemented at a high-level Training and Development programs that are aligned with their objectives and strategies, with corresponding Organizational Environment and Support. The programs are also implemented at a high level at a consistent basis and are properly supported by appropriate and effective Evaluation and Feedback. In addition, the results also showed that employees of APM are performing at a good level over-all. Both competency and productivity were observed suggesting that the skills and knowledge that the employees possess were properly used in achieving the desired outcomes of the organization. Finally, the study found Training and Development has a significant influence on employee performance with alignment of strategy as the only dimension found significant at 10%.
