    'Umbrella' review of family-focused care interventions supporting families where a family member has a long-term condition

    Aim: To summarise reviews of family-focused care interventions that support families with a family member with a long-term condition across the life course. Design: Umbrella review. Data sources: Medline (1946- 2019), Cochrane Data Base of Systematic Reviews (2019), Database of Abstracts of Reviews of Effect and EMBASE (1947- 2019), CINAHL (1981-2019), Health Technology Assessment Database (2019) and PsycInfo (1806-2019). Review Methods: All authors independently undertook title/abstract screening, data extraction and quality appraisal on a cluster of papers, working in groups of two or three to reach a consensus. The AMSTAR tool was used to appraise the quality of the studies and descriptive syntheses were undertaken. Results: Fifteen reviews met the selection criteria. Overall family-focussed care and associated terms were poorly defined. Typically interventions were educational or psychological therapy/counselling with the goal of empowering individuals to manage their condition. There is some evidence that family-focused care interventions can improve clinical/biological health measures and self-care outcomes such as treatment adherence. Multi-component psychosocial interventions that include cognitive-behavioral therapy, skills training, education and support and are focused on wider family members appear to improve family relationships and martial functioning. Conclusion: Long-term conditions have an impact on individual and family health and well-being, yet the impact of family-focused care interventions on family outcomes was overall inconclusive. A better understanding of how family-focused care interventions improve the health and well-being of individuals and their families is needed to promote the inclusion of family-focused care into practice. Impact: Supporting people with a long-term condition is a key health and social care priority. Family-focused care interventions have potential to improve the health and well-being of individuals and families but there is a need to evaluate their clinical and cost effectiveness. The findings from this review could be used by funding bodies when commissioning research for long-term conditions

    Conception participative et évaluation d'un serious game pour les enfants asthmatiques

    International audienceThe study described in this paper highlighted the participatory design process (PD) in the context of asthma e-learning. First, we described global process to design this tool named KidBreath. Second, we evaluated in two Year 4 classes its efficacy in a motivation way, usability, disease knowledge and interests of children by their system. Results showed, in acceptance with behaviors, high level of intrinsic motivation when using KidBreath, usability and enjoyment of edutainment activities. This pilot study tends to confirm to continue with this approach with asthma kids at home.L'étude décrite dans cet article met en exergue l'intérêt d'une approche de conception participative (CP) dans le cadre d'un apprentissage en ligne sur l'asthme pour les enfants. Après avoir décrit l'ensemble de la démarche pour la conception de cet e-learning nommé KidBreath, nous évaluons dans 2 classes de CE2 son efficacité au niveau motivationnel, utilisabilité, connaissance sur la maladie et émergence de l'intérêt que les enfants y portent à travers la curiosité qui en émerge. Les résultats, probants aux comportements observés, montrent un haut niveau de motivation intrinsèque pour utiliser l'outil, un fort taux d'utilisabilité et une grande satisfaction des activités ludo-éducatives. Cette étude pilote nous confirme de continuer dans cette approche en testant le système notamment auprès des enfants asthmatiques sur du moyen terme

    Increasing the pool of students in rural locations : a satellite model of nurse education

    In response to professional nurse shortages in rural areas of Australia, initiatives have been introduced including the development of new university preregistration programs in various states. It is hoped that nursing students who experience the rural environmentchoose to remain in these locations after graduation. In 2008, one Australian university, in conjunction with a rural health service, introduced a model of education designed to open access to nursing courses for students at a satellite location. This program ran for 2 years. Under this model, most students were located at the main campus with a small cohort situated at the rural health service, a distance of approximately 60 km from the main campus, for their first academic year. This health service includes a small acute care hospital with an aged care inpatient unit. Funded by a governmentseeding grant, this project offered an opportunity for students to study as part of a unique cohort with readily accessible on-site clinical experiences. Students located at the satellite centre enrolled in the same units of study and were required to meet identical assessment requirements. While a local coordinator facilitated most classes, core lectures were also provided by video link and visiting lecturers, with students transported to themain campuses fortnightly to facilitate a broader universityexperience

    Newly introduced provisional crowns and fixed dental prostheses (FDP) materials should exhibit good physical and mechanical properties necessary to serve the purpose of their fabrication. The aim of this systematic literature review and meta-analysis is to evaluate the articles comparing the physical and mechanical properties of 3D-printed provisional crown and FDP resin materials with CAD/CAM (Computer-Aided Designing/Computer-Aided Manufacturing) milled and conventional provisional resins. Indexed English literature up to April 2022 was systematically searched for articles using the following electronic databases: MEDLINE-PubMed, Web of Science (core collection), Scopus, and the Cochrane library. This systematic review was structured based on the guidelines given by the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA). The focused PICO/PECO (Participant, Intervention/exposure, Comparison, Outcome) question was: ‘Do 3D-printed (P) provisional crowns and FDPs (I) have similar physical and mechanical properties (O) when compared to CAD/CAM milled and other conventionally fabricated ones (C)’. Out of eight hundred and ninety-six titles, which were recognized after a primary search, twenty-five articles were included in the qualitative analysis, and their quality analysis was performed using the modified CONSORT scale. Due to the heterogeneity of the studies, only twelve articles were included for quantitative analysis. Within the limitations of this study, it can be concluded that 3D-printed provisional crown and FDP resin materials have superior mechanical properties but inferior physical properties compared to CAD/CAM milled and other conventionally fabricated ones. Three-dimensionally printed provisional crowns and FDP materials can be used as an alternative to conventional and CAD/CAM milled long-term provisional materials
