    A Behaviour Monitoring System (BMS) for Ambient Assisted Living

    Unusual changes in the regular daily mobility routine of an elderly person at home can be an indicator or early symptom of developing health problems. Sensor technology can be utilised to complement the traditional healthcare systems to gain a more detailed view of the daily mobility of a person at home when performing everyday tasks. We hypothesise that data collected from low-cost sensors such as presence and occupancy sensors can be analysed to provide insights on the daily mobility habits of the elderly living alone at home and to detect routine changes. We validate this hypothesis by designing a system that automatically learns the daily room-to-room transitions and permanence habits in each room at each time of the day and generates alarm notifications when deviations are detected. We present an algorithm to process the sensors' data streams and compute sensor-driven features that describe the daily mobility routine of the elderly as part of the developed Behaviour Monitoring System (BMS). We are able to achieve low detection delay with confirmation time that is high enough to convey the detection of a set of common abnormal situations. We illustrate and evaluate BMS with synthetic data, generated by a developed data generator that was designed to mimic different user's mobility profiles at home, and also with a real-life dataset collected from prior research work. Results indicate BMS detects several mobility changes that can be symptoms of common health problems.     Tangible Data Souvenirs as a Bridge between a Physical Museum Visit and Online Digital Experience

    This paper presents the design, implementation, use and evaluation of a tangible data souvenir for an interactive museum exhibition. We define a data souvenir as the materialisation of the personal visiting experience: a data souvenir is dynamically created on the basis of data recorded throughout the visit and therefore captures and represents the experience as lived. The souvenir provides visitors with a memento of their visit and acts as a gateway to further online content. A step further is to enable visitors to contribute, in other words the data souvenir can become a means to collect visitor-generated content. We discuss the rationale behind the use of a data souvenir, the design process and resulting artefacts, and the implementation of both the data souvenir and online content system. Finally we examine the installation of the data souvenirs as part of a long-lasting exhibition: the use of this souvenir by visitors has been logged over seven months and issues around the gathering of user-generated content in such a way are discussed.     Utilizing Pruning and Leaf Removal to Ripen Grapes and Encourage Cold Tolerance in North Dakota

    Experiments were conducted at North Dakota vineyards in 2011 and 2012. Pruning limited vines to a specific number of primary buds while leaf removal exposed ripening grape clusters to increased sunlight. Variables included length of growth prior to dormant pruning, weight of growth, rate of ripening, total weight of harvested grapes, weight per grape cluster, berry weight, number of clusters per vine, soluble solid concentration (°Brix), titratable acidity (TA), and pH. Data were analyzed as a CRD with a factorial arrangement. Analysis showed varied significance with pruning and shade leaf removal interacting with specific cultivar traits to influence growth, grape yield, and grape quality. Impact on yield was minimal, treatment impacts on grape quality showed potential for use of shade leaf removal as means of decreasing titratable acidity levels in harvested grapes. This program will introduce an initiative, called CORE, that has as its goal creation of a standard protocol for identifying and transferring acquisitions data elements from ILS to ERM
