The paper is intended to determine whether religiosity is an important factor in influencing the intention to undertake Islamic home financing in Malaysia. A consumer survey comprised a sample of 300 Muslim respondents from various range of age and income group resided mainly in Klang Valley areas. A conceptual framework is constructed based on Ajzen’s [15] Theory of Planned Behaviour (TPB) and research hypothesis are developed in order to focus attention on sets of factors that influences intention to use Islamic home financing in Malaysia. The findings indicated that religiosity had significant influences on the intention of Islamic home financing among Muslims in Klang Valley. In addition, this study also confirms that the TPB components namely attitude and perceived behavior are significant factors as well. Key words: Religiosity Islamic home financing Customer Islamic banking

This research explores the issues that influence affective commitment among knowledge workers in Malaysia. The determinants of affective commitment among knowledge workers that have been examined from the Malaysian knowledge workers’ perspective under this study including compensation, career opportunity, training and development, supervisor support, job autonomy, work life policies and skill varieties. A conceptual framework is constructed based on the retention factors and research hypothesis are then developed in order to focus attention on sets of factors that influences affective commitment among knowledge workers in Malaysia. Results of regression analyses revealed that all but supervisor support and skill variety were significant predictors of affective commitment among knowledge workers in Malaysia. Recommendations for future research are presented for industry bodies involved in supporting retention of knowledge workers in Malaysia

Trust as mediator of the relationship between retention factors and organisational commitment in the Malaysian ICT sector

One of the biggest challenges for the most knowledge-based organisations in these highly competitive era is retaining knowledge workers. Now-a-days company can no longer rely on the loyalty of knowledge workers, who are highly skilled and easily marketable. Understanding knowledge workers and what makes them remain and continue to contribute to the organization is an important task for most managers. Thus, this exploratory study examine the most and least important retention strategies used by MSC status companies in Malaysia, for encouraging knowledge workers to be committed and continue their services. The research was motivated by the situation of software companies, those always facing lack of commitment of their skilled workers. The research adopted a quantitative method approach. In the first phase, the literature review identified the retention factors as relevant to the study of human resource management (HRM). Then this research also identified a mediator variable. All together seven retention factors i.e. compensation, training and development, career opportunity, supervisor support, job autonomy, work/life policies and skill varieties and trust were identified as mediating construct in this research

Factors affecting trust in publishing personal information in online social network: An empirical study of Malaysia’s Klang Valley users

Online Social Networking (OSN) is a platform that enables one to socialize over the world online without having to meet anyone physically or face to face. However, privacy in OSN sites is becoming a main concern for users because of the potential threats that come with sharing one’s personal information online. The purpose of our study was to examine the key factors that influence the trust in publishing personal information on Online Social Network (OSN) sites in Malaysia. Primary data were gathered from 201 users comprising university students and working adults residing in the Klang Valley. Five factors were selected to gauge the users’ perception of potential threats , namely, security/privacy of the website, word of mouth of family and friends, functional motives of OSN users, social motives of OSN users and psychological motives of OSN users. Results of the study showed that security/privacy, word of mouth, functional motives and social motives significantly affected the publishing of respondents’ personal information on online social network sites. The implication is that the largest challenge of both now and in the future, in terms of users protecting themselves and their information, will be to find out and understand how to effectively access and change the privacy settings offered by all OSN sites

Sturge weber syndrome is a rare sporadic condition of mesodermal phacomatosis, also called encephalotrigeminal angiomatosis (synonyms : fourth phacomatosis or mother spot), is a neurocutaneous disorder with angiomas that involve the leptomeninges (leptomeningeal angiomas) and the skin of the face (purple colored flat cutaneous haemangiomas ), typically in the ophthalmic (V1) and maxillary (V2) distributions of the trigeminal nerve. The hallmark of sturge weber syndrome is a facial cutaneous venous dilation, also referred to as a nevus flammeus or port wine stain (PWS). Because of the rarity, we report here a one & half year old male child who presented with features of the Sturge Weber Syndrome on both side of face

Circular Economy Practices and Sustainable Performance of the Textile and Apparel Industry: The Roles of Corporate Environmental Ethics and Green Self-efficacy

    No full text
This quantitative study attempts to examine how circular economy practices influence the sustainable performance of the textile and apparel industry in Bangladesh. We also investigate the influence of corporate environmental ethics on circular economy implementation and green self-efficacy as a moderator on the relationship between corporate environmental ethics and circular economy practices. To carry out the objectives, the study offered a research framework according to the social cognitive theory and Resource-based view theory. For the empirical test, an online cross-sectional survey was administered among 300 owners or managers from Bangladeshi textile and apparel companies. The collected data were analyzed using the Structural Equation Modelling approach applying the AMOS software version 21. The study revealed that all the circular economy practices such as internal environment management, eco-design, and investment recovery significantly affect the entire sustainability performance dimension (economic, environmental, and social performance) in the apparel and textile industry in Bangladesh. Also, corporate environmental ethic influences circular economy practices. The study confirmed that the relationship between corporate environmental ethics, internal environmental management, and eco-design is moderated by green self-efficacy. This study provides new results to circular economy practices literature along with numerous managerial implications at the end

Consumers' intention toward buying ethically produced products in Bangladesh

    No full text
While many companies begin to promote ethically produced products, much remains to be known about consumers' buying intention toward these products. This paper attempts to integrate the theory of planned behavior and the Hunt–Vitell theory of marketing ethics to explore the buying intention toward ethically produced food products in a developing economy. Design/methodology/approach Data were collected through a questionnaire survey in Bangladesh. Structural equation modeling technique was used to test the research model. Findings Research findings showed that deontological evaluation and teleological evaluation have significantly positive effects on perceived behavioral control and subjective norm. Perceived behavioral control, subjective norm, attitude, hedonic and utilitarian value have significantly positive effects on buying intention toward ethically produced foods

DCCP (Datagram Congestion Control Protocol) is a transport layer protocol that provides congestion control for unreliable data transmission. The congestion control mechanism embedded in DCCP adjusts the packet sending rate according to network condition. However, DCCP does not discriminate congestion losses and wireless link errors resulted from fading and thus it leads to unnecessary rate adjustment. In this paper, we proposed a mechanism to enhance bandwidth utilization of DCCP over wireless network. We employed a cross-layer loss discrimination scheme to distinguish congestion loss and fading loss. The cross-layer based mechanism detects frame loss in the data link layer in real-time to infer the actual fading loss rate. Thereafter, the fading loss can be excluded from the packet loss observed in the transport layer. Once the accurate congestion loss rate is calculated, the sender can make appropriate adjustment on the transmission rate that reflects the current congestion state along the transmitting path using the DCCP rate control procedure. Simulation results show that DCCP with our proposed CCID 3 rate control scheme can discriminate fading loss and achieve from 4.7% to 15.5% improvement on transmission throughput when the fading loss rate varies from 5% to 15% in wireless network
