The perception on halal label of MAMEE products among consumers in Selangor

    Get PDF
The halal label on food products is important to provide health and create awareness among MAMEE consumers. The official halal label on food packaging has been investigated as one of the good health indicators that is beneficial for people who consume it. A shift towards sustainable halal labels should be taken to ensure good absorption of food nutrition. Consumers’ perception of the halal label on MAMEE products has changed due to their awareness of the halal label’s effect on consumer health. This study is conducted to investigate the relationship between demographic factors and the perception of consumers towards MAMEE products based on the halal label. The questionnaire was distributed to 114 respondents in Selangor. The data was analysed using the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS). From this study, the consumers are able to give a positive perception towards MAMEE products based on the halal label. The result showed a relationship between demographic factors and the perception of MAMEE consumers in Selangor, with significance values below 0.1. The significance of this study is to be a reference for the MAMEE Company to conduct research and development (R&D) in producing halal food products for the consumers

Enhancement of sensitivity to delamination in eddy current testing of carbon fiber composites by varying probe geometry

    No full text
An eddy current testing method is proposed to improve the sensitivity to delamination in carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRPs). The distributions of the eddy current density and magnetic field are investigated using finite element method analyses to identify the effect of delamination on the electromagnetic field. The change of the magnetic field induced by delamination is calculated and it is found that a distinct improvement of the sensitivity to delamination can be achieved by optimizing the distance between the tangential driver and pickup coils. Experiments performed for cross-ply CFRP samples verify that the sensitivity of the eddy current sensor can be improved such that the signal change caused by delamination is not masked by the signal changes caused by the electrical conductivity variation in CFRP. Embedded delamination with a length and width of 10 mm are clearly visualized using the proposed eddy current method

Exploring the Islamic Perspective on Tissue Engineering Principles and Practice

    No full text
Tissue engineering is related to the replacement, restoration, repair and/or regeneration of tissues/organs that are tailored to the needs of the individual patient. The potential applications of tissue engineering are being unveiled with much hype and expectations among the scientists and the public at large. The demand for engineered tissues may increase considerably, but the progress has been slow due to scientific and technical challenges that linked to moral, religious, philosophical, political and economic aspects. There are ongoing debates on certain aspects that seem to indicate that scientists maybe “playing God”. This article briefly analyses tissue engineering principles and the discourse surrounding it. Subsequently, the author briefly reflects on the Islamic perspectives, both for and against the technology. The discussions serve to provide a platform on how best to achieve a consensus that adequately deals with the scientific reality and the Islamic moral and legal jurisprudence that surrounds the technology

A review study of metal oxide nanoparticles utilization in wettability alteration mechanism

Wettability is the property of rock which vital in controlling the location, flow, and distribution of fluids within a reservoir. The increases in the water-wetness will improve both sweep and displacement efficiency, consequently releasing the trapped oil within the pore space and throat of the rock. The water-wetness will lead to a favorable mobility ratio by changing the water and oil relative permeability and reducing the capillary force by decreasing the interfacial tension (IFT) of oil-water within a reservoir. On the other hand, the vast application of nanotechnology also provides the metal oxide nanoparticles as a wettability modifier, although still limited compared to silicon dioxide (SiO2) nanoparticles. Hence, in this review study, the effects of several metal oxide nanofluids: aluminium oxide (Al2O3), cerium oxide (CeO2), cuprum oxide (CuO), iron oxide (Fe2O3), magnesium oxide (MgO), nickel oxide (NiO), titanium dioxide (TiO2), and zirconium dioxide (ZrO2) during wettability alteration of the oil-wet rocks towards water-wet were analyzed and compared with the SiO2. The procedures for artificially modifying the wettability in laboratory experiments are also investigated, including porous media preservation and experimental conditions. The fundamentals of wettability alteration by a nanofluid, which are cleaning and coating mechanisms are presented too. Key factors such as the concentration of nanoparticle, particle size, brine salinity, and the presence or absence of surfactant were also discussed in detail. Meanwhile, the effectiveness of reducing the oil viscosity and increasing the brine viscosity showed that an extra mechanism could be achieved by utilizing the metal oxide nanoparticles, conversely, it was not achieved by the SiO2
