    Effects of spin fluctuations in the t-J model

    Recent experiments on the Fermi surface and the electronic structure of the cuprate-supercondutors showed the importance of short range antiferromagnetic correlations for the physics in these systems. Theoretically, features like shadow bands were predicted and calculated mainly for the Hubbard model. In our approach we calculate an approximate selfenergy of the tt-JJ model. Solving the U=∞U=\infty Hubbard model in the Dynamical Mean Field Theory (DMFT) yields a selfenergy that contains most of the local correlations as a starting point. Effects of the nearest neighbor spin interaction JJ are then included in a heuristical manner. Formally like in JJ-perturbation theory all ring diagrams, with the single bubble assumed to be purely local, are summed to get a correction to the DMFT-self engergy This procedure causes new bands and can furnish strong deformation of quasiparticle bands. % Our results are finally compared with %former approaches to the Hubbard model.Comment: 3 Pages, Latex, 2 Postscript-Figures submitted to Physica

    Fermi surface induced lattice distortion in NbTe2_2

    The origin of the monoclinic distortion and domain formation in the quasi two-dimensional layer compound NbTe2_2 is investigated. Angle-resolved photoemission shows that the Fermi surface is pseudogapped over large portions of the Brillouin zone. Ab initio calculation of the electron and phonon bandstructure as well as the static RPA susceptibility lead us to conclude that Fermi surface nesting and electron-phonon coupling play a key role in the lowering of the crystal symmetry and in the formation of the charge density wave phase

    Using a new method for the solution of the FLEX-equations, which allows the determination of the self energy Σk(ω)\Sigma_{\bf k}(\omega) of the 2D2D Hubbard model on the real frequency axis, we calculate the doping dependence of the quasi-particle excitations of High-Tc_c superconductors. We obtain new results for the shadows of the Fermi surface, their dependence on the deformation of the quasi particle dispersion, an anomalous ω\omega-dependence of ImΣk(ω){\rm Im}\Sigma_{\bf k}(\omega) and a related violation of the Luttinger theorem. This sheds new light on the influence of short range magnetic order on the low energy excitations and its significance for photoemission experiments.Comment: 4 pages (REVTeX) with 3 figure

    Benchmarking with Spine Tango: potentials and pitfalls

    The newly released online statistics function of Spine Tango allows comparison of own data against the aggregated results of the data pool that all other participants generate. This comparison can be considered a very simple way of benchmarking, which means that the quality of what one organization does is compared with other similar organizations. The goal is to make changes towards better practice if benchmarking shows inferior results compared with the pool. There are, however, pitfalls in this simplified way of comparing data that can result in confounding. This means that important influential factors can make results appear better or worse than they are in reality and these factors can only be identified and neutralized in a multiple regression analysis performed by a statistical expert. Comparing input variables, confounding is less of a problem than comparing outcome variables. Therefore, the potentials and limitations of automated online comparisons need to be considered when interpreting the results of the benchmarking procedur
