Assessment of spin-lattice T1 and spin-spin T2 relaxation time measurements in breast cell cultures at 1.5 Tesla as a potential diagnostic tool in vitro
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a critically important tool in current medicine. This dynamic diagnostic method allows for detailed and accurate imaging of the human body and diagnosis of metabolic changes by magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) assays. Our work presented herein shows measurement of spin-lattice T1 and spin-spin T2 relaxation time as an indicator of changes in cellular morphology. MRI spin-lattice T1 and spin-spin T2 relaxation time measurements are innovative experiments that provide a detailed picture of the biological microenvironment within cell cultures. Here, we used two types of cell cultures: cancerous and healthy breast cells. By measuring spin-lattice T1 and spin-spin T2 relaxation time in cancerous and healthy cell cultures we can detect differences and morphological conditions of both cell lines. A number of observations indicate that MRI can detect differences between cancer and healthy cells. In order to obtain a high density of cells for our cellular MRI study, we grew the cells in 3D geometry. In this paper, we underline the potential of quantitative MRI in vitro for future cellular mapping of drug concentration and drug efficiency in cell culture. We have shown that MRI, which is used often for imaging of anatomy, is also a promising technology for specific morphological measurements of cells
Neural Network in the Analysis of the MR Signal as an Image Segmentation Tool for the Determination of T1 and T2 Relaxation Times with Application to Cancer Cell Culture
Artificial intelligence has been entering medical research. Today, manufacturers of diagnostic instruments are including algorithms based on neural networks. Neural networks are quickly entering all branches of medical research and beyond. Analyzing the PubMed database from the last 5 years (2017 to 2021), we see that the number of responses to the query “neural network in medicine” exceeds 10,500 papers. Deep learning algorithms are of particular importance in oncology. This paper presents the use of neural networks to analyze the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) images used to determine MRI relaxometry of the samples. Relaxometry is becoming an increasingly common tool in diagnostics. The aim of this work was to optimize the processing time of DICOM images by using a neural network implemented in the MATLAB package by The MathWorks with the patternnet function. The application of a neural network helps to eliminate spaces in which there are no objects with characteristics matching the phenomenon of longitudinal or transverse MRI relaxation. The result of this work is the elimination of aerated spaces in MRI images. The whole algorithm was implemented as an application in the MATLAB package
Assessment of the usefulness of computed tomography in the exploration of cremation urns and interpretation of their content on the example of a selected grave from site no. 1 in Pysznica (Podkarpackie Voivodeship)
The subject and the aim of this article is to present computed tomography as a tool for conducting controlled exploration of urns with human bone remains, as well as the interpretation of its content (in the archaeological context – funeral rite but also biological one). The exploration of such vessels is a process of irreversible violation of the original arrangement in their interior. Therefore, knowing the composition of subsequent layers before proceeding with this action allows for targeted work and for undertaking some interpretations even before the macroscopic examination of bone content. The selection of urns for research is primarily dictated by the state of their preservation. The least damaged are selected. The results are presented on the example of one of the three urns examined from site no. 1 in Pysznica (Podkarpackie Voivodeship)
Assessment of the usefulness of medium-field MR systems in imaging of cell cultures
W niniejszym artykule autorzy podjęli próbę oceny przydatności
systemów rezonansu magnetycznego o sile 1,5
Tesla do obrazowania małych struktur, jakimi są hodowle komórkowe.
Zakres obrazowania, jaki stał się przedmiotem badań,
wkracza w obszar będący domeną mikroskopii rezonansu magnetycznego
(MRM). W dzisiejszej dobie badania te wykonywane
są przy użyciu systemów wysokopolowych zapewniających
dużo większe rozdzielczości przestrzenne. Celem pracy było
określenie warunków, jak również parametrów skanowania pozwalających
na obrazowanie małych obiektów przy wykorzystaniu
systemu OPTIMA MR360 produkcji GE Healthcare. W wyniku
prac koniecznym stało się opracowanie dodatkowej cewki solenoidalnej,
której to zarówno wymiary, kształt, jak i konstrukcja
zapewniły optymalną jakość obrazowania możliwą do uzyskania
w oparciu o w/w system MR.
Artykuł ten jest pierwszym z serii prac ukazujących badania
hodowli komórkowych z użyciem rezonansu magnetycznego
w Uniwersytecie Rzeszowskim. In this article, the authors attempt to assess the usefulness of
1,5 Tesla magnetic resonance imaging systems for imaging of
small structures such as cell cultures. The scope of imaging that
has become the subject of research enters the area that is the
domain of magnetic resonance microscopy (MRM). Nowadays,
these tests are performed using high-field systems providing
much higher spatial resolutions. The purpose of the work was to
determine the conditions as well as scanning parameters that allow
imaging of small objects using the OPTIMA MR360 production
system. GE Healthcare. As a result of the work, it became
necessary to develop an additional solenoid coil, which both
dimensions, shape and design ensured optimal imaging quality
possible based on the above MR system.
This article is the first in a series of works showing the study of
cell cultures using magnetic resonance imaging at the University

Thermometry of magnetic resonance
Odkryte w połowie XX wieku zjawisko rezonansu magnetycznego
stanowi do dnia dzisiejszego potężne narzędzie
w rękach badaczy. Znajduje zastosowanie zarówno w naukach
biologicznych, jak i technicznych. Sztandarowym zastosowaniem
metody obrazowania wykorzystującego zjawisko rezonansu
magnetycznego jest medycyna. Ta w pełni nieinwazyjna
metoda pozwala na badanie ludzkiego ciała w sposób dotąd
niespotykany.
Niniejsza praca prezentuje jeden z aspektów zastosowania tej
metody, a mianowicie termometrię rezonansu magnetycznego
(MRT). W pracy dokonano przeglądu metod pozwalających na
monitorowanie temperatury metodą MRI. Pokazano źródła błędów,
jak również wybrane metody ich redukcji.
Cel pracy. Celem pracy jest przedstawienie metod pomiaru
temperatury wnętrza ludzkiego ciała metodami MRI. Termometria
MRI (MRT) to ważna funkcjonalność pozwalająca na nieinwazyjne
mierzenie temperatury w miejscach o ograniczonym
The phenomenon of magnetic resonance imaging discovered

In vitro MRS spectroscopy of cell cultures
Zapotrzebowanie na jakościowe i ilościowe analizy zawartości aminokwasów w mediach i różnych płynach fizjologicznych i poznanie składu mieszanin aminokwasów białek spowodowało rozwój wielu technik spektroskopowych, m.in. MRS.Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy (MRS), despite its seventy years of history, is a field undergoing constant and uninterrupted development. This involves the possibility of comprehensive use of MRS measurements both experimentally for basic research in the field of biochemistry and physics (determination of certain kinetic and thermodynamic parameters) as well as clinically in medical practice. Cell cultures were chosen as the object of research and the results of spectroscopic examination in cancer cell cultures are presented in this study. The aim of the work was to optimize spectroscopic measurement in cell cultures on a medium-field nuclear magnetic resonance system. The need for qualitative and quantitative analysis of the content of amino acids in the media and various physiological fluids and knowledge of the composition of amino acid mixtures of proteins has resulted in the development of many spectroscopic techniques, among others MRS
The influence of medium components as a factor disturbing the result of the measurement of the relaxation time T1
This paper shows one of the selected sources of errors that significantly increase the uncertainty of the result of determining the time T1. The authors focused on the influence of the center in which the studied area is located on the value of the relaxation time. It was shown on the example of a phantom how the value of the measured parameter can change depending on the properties of the medium components. The assumption of each tomography that allows imaging of any objects with finite spatial resolution is that the pixel has the same density or chemical composition on its entire surface. In the vast majority of cases, it is a far-reaching simplification which, omitted during the analysis, may lead to very serious errors in the interpretation of the results of the diagnostics or, more generally, tests

Imaging diagnostics through the eyes of a neurologist
W diagnostyce chorób układu nerwowego dostępne jest
szerokie spektrum metod diagnostycznych.
widzenia lekarza neurologa. Pokazano również wartości różnych
badań dla różnych schorzeń neurologicznych. Praca ta nie może
wyczerpać tematu, jakim jest diagnostyka obrazowa okiem neurologa,
ze względu na rozległość tematyki. Założeniem jej jest
dokonanie przeglądu dostępnych metod obrazowania i ukazanie
ich wartości w leczeniu pacjentów.A wide spectrum of diagnostic methods are available in the
diagnosis of nervous system diseases. Some are commonly
performed, others only in specialist centers. In the study below,
we discussed imaging tests used to diagnose neurological
diseases. The broadly discussed diagnostics in the neurological
context allow to highlight the needs that exist in this regard
from the point of view of the neurologist. The values of various
studies for various neurological diseases are also shown. This
work cannot exhaust the topic of diagnostic imaging through
the eyes of a neurologist due to the extent of the subject. Its assumption
is to review the available imaging methods and show
their value in treating patients
Paradigms in fMRI
Celem niniejszej pracy jest prezentacja wybranych paradygmatów stosowanych w FMRI.Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) is a non-invasive research technique that gives insight into the processes in the patient’s brain. With its help, both the places responsible for motor skills and cognitive functions are assessed. This research method based on the magnetic properties of oxyhemoglobin and deoxyhemoglobin ensures identification of brain centers in a way that has not been possible so far. FRMI use is important not only in the cognitive process, but also in the treatment process, in particular in the process of preparing patients for surgery. FRMI belongs to the diagnostics particularly demanding cooperation on the part of the patient, because he most often has to carry out tasks imposed by the research staff. It is the proper design of these tasks and the time schedule of their implementation and evaluation of results that determine the correct diagnosis. The purpose of this work is to present selected paradigms used in FMRI
