Bandung is the capital city of West Java Province and is also included in Cekungan Bandung Area. The term Cekungan Bandung refers to its geomorphological condition in the form of a basin surrounded by hills and mountains. Bandung which is located in the highlands, has attracted the Dutch Colonials to develop plantations (e.g. quinine, coffee, tea) and also as a resort town. The progress of the colonial economy has brought Bandung city to become a famous tourist destination in the Dutch East Indies (i.e. Indonesia), with its rapidly growing European culture and architecture, making Bandung known as Europa in de Tropen. In the early 20th century Bandung city was planned as the replacement Capital of Batavia, with the construction of central government buildings along with the European settlements which were thick with a mixture of tropical architecture and European architecture styles which are still commonly found in this city. This study uses the Historic Urban Landscape (HUL) method which consists of seven stages, the process of identifying and mapping the layers of the heritage landscape of Bandung is the initial stage of HUL. The aim of this research is to obtain a complete perspective of natural, cultural, and human resources as the elements that form the Bandung Cultural Heritage, which can be used to study the next stages of HUL

Abstract Many studies on the preservation of cultural heritage have been carried out, but only focus on the physical aspect. Studies that only focus on the physical do not have the power to last long because conservation activities will only focus on how to return the investment on physical development. The research aims to find significance in the interpretation and meaning of heritage preservation which will form the basis of a comprehensive and sustainable conservation strategy. This study uses the Historical Interpretation Strategy (HIS) as part of the seven steps of Heritage Urban Landscape (HUL). History tracing is done by diachronic and synchronic methods. The case study was conducted at the Randusari site in the Archdiocese of Semarang by conducting field surveys, interviews, questionnaires and a Discussion Group Forum with the Archdiocese of Semarang, government officials and professional associations. This study finds significance in the interpretation of heirlooms and the meaning of heirlooms at the Randusari Site, such as Education, Youth, Humanity and Catholicism as the basis for conservation at the Randusari Site. Keywords: Interpretation, significance, heritage, Randusari Site, meaning AbstrakKajian pelestarian cagar budaya sudah banyak dilakukan, namun hanya berfokus pada aspek fisik saja. Heritage Architectural Design or Olah Desain Arsitektur Pusaka (ODAP) in Bahasa Indonesia, has several names including adaptation architecture, filler architecture or infill design. ODAP is a method of architectural preservation that is carried out by grafting in new activities, and/or adding buildings either in part or in whole by first carrying out an in-depth study. As a method of preserving heritage, ODAP cannot separate itself from utilization strategies. This is because the preservation of architectural heritage will be meaningless if it is not able to provide benefits from a social, cultural and or economic perspective. Even further, it can become a source of new creativity in the field of architecture, arts and culture and its economic value. In order to achieve this, heritage conservation actors and related parties are required to have good sensitivity, taste, and creativity and have the desire to always develop. In this article, we will examine this ODAP, and how its role is to provide guidelines and considerations in design decisions for a heritage architecture so that it can be useful again in the future.
