Metaphor Translation In The Novel Of The Fault In Our Stars

In this paper, the writer studies about metaphor translation in novel of The Fault in Our Stars. The objectives of the study are to find the way of translator in translating the metaphor based on Peter Newmark?s procedure. The writer uses descriptive qualitative method by applying qualitative research in which collected data are analysis. Firstly, the writer reads both novels and then selects the metaphor. Second, the writer rechecks the metaphor by looking up the current dictionary, both English and Bahasa Indonesian dictionary, Kamus Besar Bahasa Indonesia and other related references. Third, analyzing the selected data according to the theory and the last, writing a report of study. The writer found seven standard metaphor procedures of Peter Newmark. And the translator used four procedures of Peter Newmark?s procedure to translate those metaphor, they are reproducing the same image in the target language, replacing the image in the SL with a standard target language image which does not clash with the TL culture, translation of metaphor by simile retaining the image and same metaphor combined with sense. As the conclusion, the most frequently procedure that used is replacing the image in the SL with a standard target language image which does not clash with the TL culture, because the images in standard metaphor often changes if the translator transfers the source text to target text that has different culture
