Experimental effects of fuselage camber on longitudinal aerodynamic characteristics of a series of wing-fuselage configurations at a Mach number of 1.41
An experimental investigation was conducted to evaluate a method for the integration of a fighter-type fuselage with a theoretical wing to preserve desirable wing aerodynamic characteristics for efficient maneuvering. The investigation was conducted by using semispan wing fuselage models mounted on a splitter plate. The models were tested through an angle of attack range at a Mach number of 1.41. The wing had a leading edge sweep angle of 50 deg and an aspect ratio of 2.76; the wing camber surface was designed for minimum drag due to lift and was to be self trimming at a lift coefficient of 0.2 and at a Mach number of 1.40. Strong electron correlations in cobalt valence tautomers
We have examined cobalt based valence tautomer molecules such as
Co(SQ)(phen) using density functional theory (DFT) and variational
configuration interaction (VCI) approaches based upon a model Hamiltonian. Our
DFT results extend earlier work by finding a reduced total energy gap (order
0.6 eV) between high temperature and low temperature states when we fully relax
the coordinates (relative to experimental ones). Futhermore we demonstrate that
the charge transfer picture based upon formal valence arguments succeeds
qualitatively while failing quantitatively due to strong covalency between the
Co 3 orbitals and ligand orbitals. With the VCI approach, we argue that
the high temperature, high spin phase is strongly mixed valent, with about 30 %
admixture of Co(III) into the predominantly Co(II) ground state. We confirm
this mixed valence through a fit to the XANES spectra. Moreover, the strong
electron correlations of the mixed valent phase provide an energy lowering of
about 0.2-0.3 eV of the high temperature phase relative to the low temperature
one. Finally, we use the domain model to account for the extraordinarily large

This paper examines the impact of Iraqi war on the global market economy. The global market performance was sluggish in the weeks preceding the war and including the cessation of the war in Iraq. This was due to uncertainty in the price of oil and the ultimate outcome of the war. However, markets rebounded as oil prices normalized due to the quick overthrow of Baghdad. Furthermore, the U.S. dollar had been steadily weakening against the Euro in the months preceding the war. Therefore, a successful completion of the Iraq war will help prevent further devaluation of the dollar

Historically, the drug industry has been one of the most profitable in the United States of America and has been attributed to the relatively high cost of drugs compared to other developed countries. The call on drug companies to reduce the costs has increased tremendously with the industry strongly resisting, claiming costs are justified to support research and development of newer and better drugs. This debate is currently ongoing in the legislature with strong lobbying from both sides of the divide. Hence, the main objective of this research is to determine the reasons for the high cost of prescription drugs in the United States compared to other countries and suggest ways to make drugs more affordable. The solution to the problem will most likely come from a compromise by both sides involving government funded research and production of generic drugs by companies. This would bring down the cost of drugs while ensuring continuation of research and development and guarantee reasonable profits for the drug industry

Consider a large system of Brownian motions in with some
non-degenerate initial measure on some fixed time interval with
symmetrised initial-terminal condition. That is, for any , the terminal
location of the -th motion is affixed to the initial point of the
-th motion, where is a uniformly distributed random
permutation of . Such systems play an important role in quantum
physics in the description of Boson systems at positive temperature .
In this paper, we describe the large-N behaviour of the empirical path
measure (the mean of the Dirac measures in the paths) and of the mean of
the normalised occupation measures of the motions in terms of large
deviations principles. The rate functions are given as variational formulas
involving certain entropies and Fenchel-Legendre transforms. Consequences are
drawn for asymptotic independence statements and laws of large numbers.
In the special case related to quantum physics, our rate function for the
occupation measures turns out to be equal to the well-known Donsker-Varadhan
rate function for the occupation measures of one motion in the limit of
diverging time. This enables us to prove a simple formula for the large-N
asymptotic of the symmetrised trace of , where
is an -particle Hamilton operator in a trap
STAR inner tracking upgrade - A performance study
Anisotropic flow measurements have demonstrated development of partonic
collectivity in Au+Au collisions at RHIC. To understand the
partonic EOS, thermalization must be addressed. Collective motion of
heavy-flavor (c,b) quarks can be used to indicate the degree of thermalization
of the light-flavor quarks (u,d,s). Measurement of heavy-flavor quark
collectivity requires direct reconstruction of heavy-flavor hadrons in the low
\pt region. Measurement of open charm spectra to high \pt can be used to
investigate heavy-quark energy loss and medium properties. The Heavy Flavor
Tracker (HFT), a proposed upgrade to the STAR experiment at midrapidity, will
measure of open-charm hadrons to very low \pt by reconstructing their
displaced decay vertices. The innermost part of the HFT is the PIXEL detector
(made of two low mass monolithic active pixel sensor layers), which delivers a
high precision position measurement close to the collision vertex. The
Intermediate Silicon Tracker (IST), a 1-layer strip detector, is essential to
improve hit identification in the PIXEL detector when running at full RHIC-II
luminosity. Using a full GEANT simulation, open charm measurement capabilities
of STAR with the HFT will be shown. Its performance in a broad \pt range will
be demonstrated on (\pt > 0.5\mathrm{GeV}/c) and
(\pt < 10\mathrm{GeV}/c) measurements of \D meson. Results of
reconstruction of \Lc baryon in heavy-ion collisions are presented.Comment: to appear in EPJ C (Hot Quarks 2008 conference volume
On fluctuations of closed string tachyon solitons
We discuss fluctuations on solitons in the dilaton/graviton/tachyon system
using the low energy effective field theory approach. It is shown that closed
string solitons are free of tachyons in this approximation, regardless of the
