Effects of rehabilitation of persons with chronic low back pain and hypertension
Background The aim of this study was to evaluate the
effects of rehabilitation in patients with chronic low back
pain (CLBP) with concomitant hypertension and without
hypertension. Also been examined the effects of rehabilitation
in the case of high blood pressure with accompanying
coronary artery disease or heart failure.
Material and methods The study group included 535 individuals,
437 (81.7%) women and 98 (18.3%) men, aged
18–87 years (mean age 51.7 ± 17.2) treated with CLBP.
Among the study group in 214 (40%) patients had hypertension.
The effects of rehabilitation were evaluated for
reducing pain, improving mobility and quality of life. Pain,
improve transportation and quality of life was measured
on a 8 grade scale before and after rehabilitation.
Results The effects of rehabilitation in patients with CLBP
and hypertension did not differ in terms of pain (p =
0.374), locomotion (p = 0.96) and quality of life (p =
0.202) than patients without hypertension. Both in patients
with hypertension and without hypertension
after rehabilitation was a reduction in pain (p < 0.001),
improvement in locomotion (pWstęp Nadciśnienie tętnicze występuje bardzo często
wśród chorych z innymi problemami zdrowotnymi,
również nie związanymi z układem krążenia.
Znane zalecenia dotyczą raczej ewentualnej modyfikacji
leczenia hipotensyjnego; problem ewentualnego
związku nadciśnienia z efektywnością leczenia
innych chorób jest analizowany znacznie rzadziej.
Celem niniejszej pracy była ocena efektów rehabilitacji
pacjentów z przewlekłymi bólami dolnego odcinka
kręgosłupa w zależności od współistnienia
nadciśnienia tętniczego. Zbadano też efekty rehabilitacji
w sytuacji wystąpienia nadciśnienia tętniczego
z towarzyszącą chorobą wieńcową lub niewydolnością
krążenia.
Materiał i metody Badaniem objęto grupę 535 osób,
w tym 437 kobiet (81,7%) i 98 mężczyzn (18,3%),
w wieku od 18 do 87 lat (średni wiek 51,7 ± 17,2 roku),
leczonych z powodu bólów dolnego odcinka kręgosłupa.
Spośród nich u 214 osób (40%) stwierdzono
nadciśnienie tętnicze. Efekty rehabilitacji badano
pod kątem zmniejszenia dolegliwości bólowych, poprawy
możliwości poruszania się i poprawy jakości
życia. Odczuwanie bólu, lokomocję i jakość życia
mierzono w skali 8-stopniowej przed rehabilitacją
i po niej.
Wyniki Efekty rehabilitacji u osób z bólami dolnego
odcinka kręgosłupa i nadciśnieniem tętniczym nie
różniły się istotnie pod względem bólu (p = 0,374),
lokomocji (p = 0,96) i jakości życia (p = 0,202) od
pacjentów bez nadciśnienia tętniczego. Zarówno
w grupie osób z nadciśnieniem tętniczym, jak i bez
niego po rehabilitacji stwierdzono zmniejszenie bólu
(p < 0,001), poprawę lokomocji (p < 0,001) i poprawę
i jakości życia (p = 0,684). Współistnienie przewlekłych
bólów dolnego odcinka kręgosłupa z nadciśnieniem
tętniczym i wyrównaną niewydolnością
krążenia również nie ma wpływu na efekty rehabilitacji
w zakresie odczuwania bólu (p = 0,411), lokomocji
(p = 0,318) i jakości życia (p = 0,986).
Wnioski Efekty rehabilitacji osób z zespołem bólowym
dolnego odcinka kręgosłupa i nadciśnieniem
tętniczym są porównywalne z efektami rehabilitacji
u osób bez nadciśnienia tętniczego.

Nanodentistry aspects explored towards nanostructured ZrO2: Immobilizing zirconium-oxide nanotube coatings onto zirconia ceramic implant surfaces
We report on a facile strategy to impart nanostructured morphology to commercially available ceramic-preforms used for biomedical applications in the field of dentistry. This process involves the deposition of nanotubular zirconium-oxide (ZrNT) membranes onto zirconia (ZrO2) ceramic discs at ambient conditions. ZrNTs are fabricated via electrochemical anodization of zirconium foil in a one-pot synthesis. The ZrNT film is detached from the metal-foil using office-adhesive tape and freestanding ZrNT films were obtained via dissolution of adhesives in a solvent bath, which also facilitate the transfer of ZrNT film onto the ceramic. This simple technique allows to impart a robust micro-nanoscale structure to bulk-ceramics that can potentially offer insights into designing ‘smart’ implants in the field of ceramic-biomaterial applications
Chitosan–Silica Hybrid Composites for Removal of Sulfonated Azo Dyes from Aqueous Solutions
In this study, the
influence of the chitosan immobilization method
on the properties of final hybrid materials was performed. Chitosan
was immobilized on the surface of mesoporous (ChS2) and fumed silica
(ChS3) by physical adsorption and the sol–gel method (ChS1).
It was found that physical immobilization of chitosan allows to obtain
hybrid composites (ChS) with a homogeneous distribution of polymer
on the surface, relatively wide pores, and specific surface area of
about 170 m2/g, pHPZC = 5.7 for ChS3 and 356
m2/g and pHPZC = 6.0 for ChS2. The microporous
chitosan–silica material with a specific surface area of 600
m2/g and a more negatively charged surface (pHPZC = 4.2) was obtained by the sol–gel reaction. The mechanisms
of azo dye adsorption were studied, and the correlation with the composite
structure was distinguished. The generalized Langmuir equation and
its special cases, that is, Langmuir–Freundlich and Langmuir
equations, were applied for the analysis of adsorption isotherm data.
The adsorption study showed that physically adsorbed chitosan (ChS1
and ChS2) on a silica surface has a higher sorption capacity, for
example, 0.48 mmol/g for the acid red 88 (AR88) dye (ChS2) and 0.23
mmol/g for the acid orange 8 (AO8) dye (ChS1), compared to the composite
obtained by the sol-gel method [ChS1, 0.05 mmol/g for the AO8 dye].
For a deeper understanding of the behavior of immobilized chitosan
in the adsorption processes, various kinetic equations were applied:
first-order, second-order, mixed 1,2-order (MOE), multiexponential,
and fractal-like MOE as well as intraparticle and pore diffusion model
equations. In the case of AO8 dye, the adsorption rates were differentiated
for three composites: for ChS3, 50% of the dye was removed from the
solution after merely 5 min and almost 90% after 80 min. The slowest
adsorption process controlled by the diffusion rate of dye molecules
into the internal space of the pore structure was found for ChS1 (225
min halftime). In the case of ChS2, the rates for various dyes change
in the following order: acid orange (AO7) > orange G (OG) >
acid red
1 (AR1) > AR88 > AO8 (halftimes: 10.5 < 15.7 < 23.7 <
34.9
< 42.9 min)
