Prawn seed collection in Srikakulam district in Andhra Pradesh
The fishermen at most of the landing centres in Zone An.-l, the northern part of Srikakulam District upto Geddalapadu (south) use plastic mosquito nets, hand nets and nylon 'Jolly vala' or Toka vala' to catch prawn seeds. The seed are collected from the surf region at a depth of 0.5 to 1.5 m. The major centres in Srikakulam district where more prawn seed is av£iilable are Bhavanapadu, Althada, Nuwalla Revu, Manchineelapetta, Kothuru, GoUagandi, Peddakarrivanipalem, Idduvanipalem, Kotha- kalingapatnam, Donkuru and GeddEdapad
Gastrointestinal Stromal Tumor: A Rare Abdominal Tumor
Gastrointestinal stromal tumors (GISTs) are rare abdominal tumors which arise from the interstitial cells of Cajal in the gastrointestinal tract. Gastric GISTs are the most commonly seen GIST tumors and may grow to a very large size. They are often associated with abdominal pain, anorexia and weight loss. Most of them can be detected by CT. These tumors have been found to harbor mutations in CD117 which causes constitutional activation of the tyrosine kinase signaling pathway and is considered to be pathognomic. Tyrosine kinase inhibitors such as imatinib have revolutionized the treatment of these tumors, which are otherwise resistant to conventional chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Although surgical resection is the mainstay of treatment, tyrosine kinase inhibitors have been useful in prolonging the recurrence-free survival of these patients. Resistance to imatinib has been reported in GISTs with specific mutations. We present a case of gastric GIST which grew to a very large size and was associated with abdominal pain and weight loss. It was successfully resected and the patient was commenced on imatinib therapy
Pulmonary Lymphangitic Carcinomatosis due to Renal Cell Carcinoma
Renal cell carcinoma is an aggressive disease with a high rate of mortality. It is known to metastasize to the lung, liver, bone and brain. However, manifestation through lymphatic spread to the lungs is rare. Lymphangitic carcinomatosis is commonly observed in malignancies of the breast, lung, pancreas, colon and cervix. It is unusual to observe lymphangitic carcinomatosis of the lungs due to renal cell carcinoma. Lymphangitic carcinomatosis of the lungs may result in severe respiratory distress and may be the direct cause of death. Currently, there are no known modalities of preventing or slowing lymphangitic carcinomatosis besides treating the primary tumor. However, early detection may change the course of the disease and may prolong survival. This is compounded by the difficulty involved in diagnosing lymphangitic carcinomatosis of the lung which frequently involves lung biopsy. Immunohistochemical studies are often used in conjunction with regular histochemistry in ascertaining the primary tumor and in differentiating it from pulmonary metastasis. In this case report, we describe the presentation and clinical course of renal cell carcinoma in a patient which manifested as lymphangitis carcinomatosa of the lungs. The patient underwent surgical resection of the primary tumor with lymph node resection but presented with a fulminant lymphangitic carcinomatosis of the lungs within two weeks. Immunohistochemistry of the tissue obtained by the biopsy confirmed the diagnosis which was subsequently corroborated during his autopsy. This case illustrates the necessity of an urgent follow-up of chemotherapy and immunotherapy in such patients
CG3D: Compositional Generation for Text-to-3D via Gaussian Splatting
With the onset of diffusion-based generative models and their ability to
generate text-conditioned images, content generation has received a massive
invigoration. Recently, these models have been shown to provide useful guidance
for the generation of 3D graphics assets. However, existing work in
text-conditioned 3D generation faces fundamental constraints: (i) inability to
generate detailed, multi-object scenes, (ii) inability to textually control
multi-object configurations, and (iii) physically realistic scene composition.
In this work, we propose CG3D, a method for compositionally generating scalable
3D assets that resolves these constraints. We find that explicit Gaussian
radiance fields, parameterized to allow for compositions of objects, possess
the capability to enable semantically and physically consistent scenes. By
utilizing a guidance framework built around this explicit representation, we
show state of the art results, capable of even exceeding the guiding diffusion
model in terms of object combinations and physics accuracy
Resolving Multi-path Interference in Time-of-Flight Imaging via Modulation Frequency Diversity and Sparse Regularization
Time-of-flight (ToF) cameras calculate depth maps by reconstructing phase
shifts of amplitude-modulated signals. For broad illumination or transparent
objects, reflections from multiple scene points can illuminate a given pixel,
giving rise to an erroneous depth map. We report here a sparsity regularized
solution that separates K-interfering components using multiple modulation
frequency measurements. The method maps ToF imaging to the general framework of
spectral estimation theory and has applications in improving depth profiles and
exploiting multiple scattering.Comment: 11 Pages, 4 figures, appeared with minor changes in Optics Letter
Polarized 3D: High-Quality Depth Sensing with Polarization Cues
Coarse depth maps can be enhanced by using the shape information from polarization cues. We propose a framework to combine surface normals from polarization (hereafter polarization normals) with an aligned depth map. Polarization normals have not been used for depth enhancement before. This is because polarization normals suffer from physics-based artifacts, such as azimuthal ambiguity, refractive distortion and fronto-parallel signal degradation. We propose a framework to overcome these key challenges, allowing the benefits of polarization to be used to enhance depth maps. Our results demonstrate improvement with respect to state-of-the-art 3D reconstruction techniques.Charles Stark Draper Laboratory (Doctoral Fellowship)Singapore.
