Hemingway: the posthumous fiction and Nabokov’s Lolita: A cross-textual reading

Some of Hemingway’s posthumous fiction engages in dynamic intertextual relations with Lolita. The study identifies some of these protean links but goes further, pointing out the structural and ethical differences between the two authors’ work, Nabokov’s being rooted in a logic of perversion, while Hemingway’s dramatizes what can be called perverse temptation combined with sublimation. The study, which is based on intertextuality but not limited to it, proves helpful for a better understanding of the tension generated between desire and non‑normative sexuality, thus engaging in a debate with the perversion‑oriented criticism that tends to situate Hemingway’s work in perverse clinical categorie

Far from corroborating the realistic approach, this paper's purpose is to reveal the fantasy machinery at work in the story. La mirada que Edith Warthon ejerce sobre Marruecos durante el viaje que emprendió en 1919 (In Morroco, 1920) traduce la adhesión de la autora a la visión imperialista “humanista” del Mariscal Lyautey, residente general de Marruecos bajo protectorado francés. ¿Cuáles son las fuerzas constituyentes de ese discurso “fálico” que seduce a Warthon, y cómo interactúan con aquellas fuerzas procedentes de una supuesta posición femenina (identificable entre otras cosas en la atención a las mujeres marroquíes) y de su conciencia artística (percepción estetizada de los espacios y acontecimientos)?Le regard porté par Edith Wharton sur le Maroc lors du voyage qu’elle effectue en 1919 (publié sous le titre *In Morocco*; trad. française: *Au Maroc*, Gallimard), témoigne de l’adhésion de l’auteure à la vision impérialiste “humaniste” du Maréchal Lyautey, résident général du Maroc sous protectorat français.
