Objective: To determine the clinical presentation and treatment outcomes of adult patients with intussusceptions. Study Design: Case series. Place and Duration of Study: The Aga Khan University Hospital, Karachi, from January 1988 to December 2008. Methodology: Medical records of patients with diagnosis of intussusceptions in adults (above 15 years of age) from January 1988 to December 2008 were retrieved through ICD 9 coding system. Patients with complete records were included in the study and those with incomplete medical record or under 30 days follow-up were excluded. Data was analyzed on SPSS version 16. The treatment outcomes were hospital stay, 30 days-morbidity, mortality and recurrence of intussusceptions during follow-up period. Results: The mean age of the 19 patients was 37 years with male predominance. Most patients presented with acute bowel obstruction. In 14 patients, small bowel were involved. CT scan diagnosed intussusception in 10 out of 12 patients. Benign lead point were found in 80% cases. Eighteen patients were treated surgically. Fourteen (70%) patients underwent resection with primary anastomosis while in 4 patients only reduction was done. In resection group, 11 patients had resection after reduction and in 3 patients only resection was done. There was no recurrence in resection group. One recurrence was noticed in the reduction group and one patient died of advanced gastrointestinal malignancy in the nonoperative group. Conclusion: Intussusception is a rare cause of acute intestinal obstruction in adult population. CT scan is a promising diagnostic tool to establish pre-operative diagnosis. Early surgical resection could achieve optimal outcome. Small bowel intussusception could be reduced before resection if there is no doubt about bowel viability. In most of the patients the lead point could be benign disease

Survey research design was adopted to find out the viewers’ use of mass media and explore the factors behind a specific voting decision on them. The population-the whole university students-- was divided into two strata: natural sciences vs social sciences. From each strata 160 students, male and female students from BS and MA programs were taken as the unit of analysis. Stratified method for the specification of the demographic characteristics was adopted. 320 viewers were interviewed by using purposive sampling method through the questionnaire. The results figured out that most respondents (50.5%) used to watch television very frequently. Findings reveal that 54.5% viewers usually preferred to watch GEO TV. Results demonstrate that a significant number of viewers (60.5%) prefer to watch Discussions programs on TV during political campaigns. Viewers point of view reveal that 41% viewers think PML(N) launched most effective political campaign on television. Non-traumatic right hepatic artery pseudoaneurysm: An unusual cause of hemobilia and obstructive jaundice

Most hepatic artery pseudoaneurysms (HAPA) are post traumatic, and non-traumatic pseudoaneurysm is rarely reported. It is a potentially life threatening vascular disorder and difficult to diagnose before rupture. Early diagnosis and prompt nonoperative intervention of this lesion could be life saving. The authors report the case of a patient with hemobilia caused by ruptured right hepatic artery pseudoaneurysm and subsequently developed right hepatic duct stricture, which has not been reported previously. This patient was successfully treated with endovascular stent graft of pseudoaneurysm and endoscopic stenting of right hepatic duct stricture

The aim of the paper is to analyze the simultaneous influence of environmental risk, corporate strategy and financing strategy on firm profitability. Data for the period of 2013-2019 was collected from COMPUSTAT and respective Stock exchanges. The sample consists of a total of 4837 publicly traded firms from South East Asian Countries. Using fixed effects model, the findings of the study revealed that independent constructs explain significant variation in firm profitability. These findings are helpful for managers in formulating better strategies particularly those that are concerned with addressing the volatility and uncertainty dimension of the environment as well as resource development for supporting their decisions related to strategy formulation

Evaluation of apical root resorption In endodontically treated and vital teeth in adult orthodontic subjects.

BACKGROUND: External apical root resorption (EARR) is one of the detrimental outcomes of an orthodontic treatment. The study was aimed to compare the mean EARR between endodontically treated and its contralateral vital tooth in adult orthodontic subjects. METHODS: A total of 30 subjects were included in the study. EARR was evaluated on pretreatment and post-treatment orthopantomograms using Rogan Delft View Pro-X software. Equal number of endodontically treated and their contralateral vital teeth were evaluated. Linge and Linge method was used to evaluate the pretreatment and post-treatment root lengths. For comparison of EARR between genders, treatment type and vital versus endodontically treated teeth, Mann-Whitney U Test was applied. Spearman correlation was applied to determine the correlation of EARR with age of the patient, duration of treatment and pretreatment root length. A probability value of ≤0.05 was kept as statistically significant. RESULTS: Vital teeth showed more root resorption as compared to endodontically treated teeth and in females as compared to males. A weak positive correlation was found between the root resorption and patient\u27s age & pretreatment root length. In vital teeth, a weak negative correlation was appeared between root resorption and duration of the treatment. However, none of these correlations were significant. CONCLUSIONS: EARR appeared to be greater in vital as compared to the root filled teeth and in females as compared to the males. However, EARR was not significantly correlated with duration of treatment, age of patient and pretreatment root length
