Large-scale numerical modeling of hydro-acoustic waves generated by tsunamigenic earthquakes
Abstract. Tsunamigenic fast movements of the seabed generate pressure waves in weakly compressible seawater, namely hydro-acoustic waves, which travel at the sound celerity in water (about 1500 m s−1). These waves travel much faster than the counterpart long free-surface gravity waves and contain significant information on the source. Measurement of hydro-acoustic waves can therefore anticipate the tsunami arrival and significantly improve the capability of tsunami early warning systems. In this paper a novel numerical model for reproduction of hydro-acoustic waves is applied to analyze the generation and propagation in real bathymetry of these pressure perturbations for two historical catastrophic earthquake scenarios in Mediterranean Sea. The model is based on the solution of a depth-integrated equation, and therefore results are computationally efficient in reconstructing the hydro-acoustic waves propagation scenarios
A Graphical User Interface for Scattering Analysis of Electromagnetic Waves Incident on Planar Layered Media
This paper introduces a MATLAB-based Graphical User Interface (GUI) which could help electromagnetics engineers and researchers who are interested in designing layered media for various applications. The paper begins with presenting the analysis method the program employs, continues by encountering specific considerations and techniques of implementation, and ends with providing different numerical examples. These examples show good efficiency of the program for analysis of diverse problems

Typical lignocellulosic wastes and by-products for biosorption process in water and wastewater treatment: A critical review
Biosorption on lignocellulosic wastes and by-products has been identified as a proper alternative to the existing technologies applied for toxic metal ion and dye removal from wastewater streams. This paper deals with utilization of typical low cost wastes and by-products produced in different food agricultural and agro-industries as biosorbent and reviews the current state of studies on a wide variety of cheap biosorbents in natural and modified forms. The efficiency of each biosorbent has been also discussed with respect to the operating conditions (e.g. temperature, hydraulic residence time, initial metal concentration, biosorbent particle size and its dosage), chemical modification on sorption capacity and preparation methods, as well as thermodynamics and kinetics. © 2013 Elsevier Ltd
Wave-power absorption from a finite array of oscillating wave surge converters
Semi-analytical and fully numerical modelling is developed in the framework of the inviscid potential flow theory to investigate the dynamics of a wave farm made by flap-type wave energy converters in the nearshore. The hydrodynamic parameters and the efficiency of the system in typical layouts are calculated with both models. Good agreement is shown between the two approaches. Parametric analysis undertaken with the semi-analytical model allows to identify a near-resonant phenomenon which is responsible for increasing the absorbed power by the single elements of the array. Such result could be used as a preliminary design criterion. The numerical model is then applied to analyse a configuration of practical engineering interest, i.e. an array of two staggered converters. The dynamics arising in this more complex system is explained, showing that non-symmetric layouts can be less effective
Development and evaluation of a new multi-metal binding biosorbent
A novel multi-metal binding biosorbent (MMBB) was developed by combining a group of three from the selective natural lignocellulosic agro-industrial wastes for effectively eliminating lead, cadmium, copper and zinc from aqueous solutions. Four MMBBs with different combinations (MMBB1: tea waste, corncob, sugarcane bagasse; MMBB2: tea waste, corncob and sawdust; MMBB3: tea waste, corncob and apple peel; MMBB4: tea waste, corncob and grape stalk) were evaluated. FTIR analysis for characterizing the MMBB2 explored that the MMBB2 contains more functional groups available for multi-metals binding. Comparing among the MMBBs as well as the single group biosorbents, MMBB2 was the best biosorbent with the maximum biosorption capacities of 41.48, 39.48, 94.00 and 27.23mg/g for Cd(II), Cu(II), Pb(II) and Zn(II), respectively. After 5 times of desorption with CaCl2, CH3COOH and NaCl as eluent, the MMBB2 still remained excellent biosorptive capacity, so as it could be well regenerated for reuse and possible recovery of metals. © 2013 Elsevier Ltd
General Lossy External Cloak with New Structures
In this article we consider loss for all parts of external cloaks that are achieved by the different transformation functions. Each cloak has a different threshold for loss. We compare the simulation result with each other to find the best function for external cloaking

Analytical Solution for Elliptical Cloaks Based on The Frequency Selective Surface
In this paper the elliptical dielectric cylinder which is covered with FSS cloak is considered. Frequency selective surface cloak which Alu named it mantle cloak is one of the recent techniques for cloaking. In this method an appropriate FSS can act as cloaking device for suppressing the scattering of object in the desired frequency. With using this method the dimension of the cloaks is extremely reduced. By this proposed structure, the RCS of elliptical cylinder is reduced about 10-20 dB and designed cloak has an appropriate performance. The analytical solution for the wave in each layer is presented and with using simulation, the electric field and the scattering pattern has been drawn
