Greep and low cycle fatigue tests and without hold time have been carried out at 500° C on a bar of alloy 800 grade 2. The influence of a previous ageing during 3000 h at 550 °C has been studied. Metallurgical investigations allowed to analyse the deformation and breaking modes and to characterize the damage for the different types of tests. Modelization of relaxation curves has been performed with two distinct models allowing both extrapolation to very long hold times. Long term life predictions for creep fatigue test with long dwell time and small deformations have been obtained by application of two methods of creep fatigue interaction : mechanical approach with a non-linear cumilations of fatigue and creep damage both of being related to external mechanical variables ; metallurgical approach with a damage concept based on quantitative metallographic measurementsDes essais de fluage, de fatigue oligocyclique continue et de fatigue relaxation ont été effectués à 550° C sur un produit en alliage 800 grade 2.

Experimental and numerical investigation of the effects of stacking sequence and stress ratio on fatigue damage of glass/epoxy composites

    No full text
International audienceIn the present paper fatigue behavior of glass/epoxy composite materials under different stress ratios and for various plies orientation angles has been established. Experimental and numerical analysis (Finite Element Method) were performed on various specimens subjected to cyclic tensile tests in order to outline the influences of stress ratios and the stacking sequence ([02/902]s; [902/02]s; [03/90]s; [903/0]s) on glass/epoxy fatigue properties. Static analysis is done experimentally to identify the stress-strain diagrams, strain to failure, Young's modulus and tensile strength for each stacking sequence. Comparison between experimental and numerical prediction show good agreement. The Results of this investigation can lead us to choose the most optimal stacking sequence for giving boundary conditions to achieve the maximum fatigue life

    No full text
International audienceIn this paper, static and fatigue behavior of Glass/Epoxy composite laminates are investigated. During experimental tests the gradual degradation and damage evolution in the composites tested were monitored using the acoustic emission method (AE). The specimens tested were made with different stacking sequences ([02/902]s, [902/02]s, [03/90]s and [903/0]s) according to the vacuum infusion procedure. The analysis and observation of AE signals collected during experimental tests allow the identification of the various damage mechanisms, and detect those which are the most critical, leading to the failure of the tested specimens. The accumulated damage is manifested by matrix cracking, inter-ply debonding, delamination and fiber breakage. The acoustic signals collected during the tests were analyzed by a classification method which consists of the k-means method and principal component analysis (PCA). The results of the acoustic emission signals accumulated during static and fatigue tests are compared in order to assess and evaluate the intensity of these activities for each stacking sequence. The distribution of amplitude and the time dependency of the different damage modes are shown in this study

International audienceDegradation of mechanical properties in laminated composite is a complex mechanism which results from different modes of damage that depends on many parameters. For this purpose, different experimental studies have been carried out to characterize this damage under monotonic stresses. This paper presents an experimental and numerical study of the mechanical behavior of glass / epoxy composites. Four types of laminated composite made up of 8 plies of fiberglass and an epoxy resin with different stacking sequences are studied. This characterization is carried out with different tensile tests under various stress levels. Then, a numerical approach is applied to predict the fatigue lifeof the glass / epoxy composites using the finite element method (FEM). The comparison of the results obtained during the two approaches is presented in this study.

International audienceThis present work is devoted to the evaluation and identification by acoustic emission of the damage mechanisms in glass/epoxy composite laminates. The tested specimens were subjected to static and cyclic tensile stress in order to follow the propagation of the various modes of damage over time and to detect the most critical ones leading to the total rupture of the tested samples. Damage is manifested by matrix cracking, inter-ply debonding, delamination and fiber breakage. The acoustic signals collected during the experimental tests were analysed by a classification method consisting of the k-means method and principal component analysis (PCA)Le prĂ©sent travail est consacrĂ© Ă  l’évaluation et l’identification par Ă©mission acoustique des mĂ©canismes d’endommagement dans les stratifiĂ©s verre/Ă©poxy.

Comparison of the GUM and Monte Carlo methods on the flatness uncertainty estimation in coordinate measuring machine

    No full text
In engineering industry, control of manufactured parts is usually done on a coordinate measuring machine (CMM), a sensor mounted at the end of the machine probes a set of points on the surface to be inspected. Data processing is performed subsequently using software, and the result of this measurement process either validates or not the conformity of the part. Measurement uncertainty is a crucial parameter for making the right decisions, and not taking into account this parameter can, therefore, sometimes lead to aberrant decisions. The determination of the uncertainty measurement on CMM is a complex task for the variety of influencing factors. Through this study, we aim to check if the uncertainty propagation model developed according to the guide to the expression of uncertainty in measurement (GUM) approach is valid, we present here a comparison of the GUM and Monte Carlo methods. This comparison is made to estimate a flatness deviation of a surface belonging to an industrial part and the uncertainty associated to the measurement result
