Measuring Shear Viscosity Using Transverse Momentum Correlations in Relativistic Nuclear Collisions
Elliptic flow measurements at RHIC suggest that quark gluon plasma flows with
very little viscosity compared to weak coupling expectations, challenging
theorists to explain why this fluid is so nearly ``perfect''. It is therefore
vital to find quantitative experimental information on the viscosity of the
plasma. We propose that measurements of transverse momentum fluctuations can be
used to determine the shear viscosity. We use current data to estimate the
viscosity-to-entropy ratio in the range from 0.08 to 0.3, and discuss how
future measurements can reduce this uncertainty.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figure
Asymptomatic cardiac rhabdomyoma in neonates : is surgery indicated?
Neonatal Tuberose sclerosis complex may be associated with symptomatic
cardiac rhabdomyomas. Cardiac rhabdomyomas are the most common
cardiac tumours. The symptoms include haemodynamic instability and life
threatening arrhythmias usually requiring early surgical intervention. This article reports a case of a 32 week gestation newborn diagnosed with a right
ventricular outflow tract mass and subsequently diagnosed with tuberose
sclerosis that needed early surgical intervention.peer-reviewe
Lead-Time Estimation Approach Using the Process Capability Index
This research proposes a methodology to estimate the customer order lead-time in supply chain based on the process capability index. The cases when the process output is normally distributed and when it is not are considered. The relationships between the system capability indices in both service and manufacturing applications, delivery system reliabilities and the percentages of orders delivered after their promised due-dates are presented. The proposed method can be used to examine the current process capability to deliver the orders before the promised lead-time. If the system was found to be incapable, the method can be used to help revise the current lead-time to a proper value according to the service reliability level selected by the management. Numerical examples and a case study describing the lead time estimation methodology and testing the system capability of delivering the orders before their promised due date are illustrated
Electrical performance study of a large area multicrystalline silicon solar cell using a current shunt and a micropotentiometer
In this paper, a new technique using a Current Shunt and a Micropotentiometer has been used to study the electrical performance of a large area multicrystalline silicon solar cell at outdoor conditions. The electrical performance is mainly described by measuring both cell short circuit current and open circuit voltage. The measurements of this cell by using multimeters suffer from some problems because the cell has high current intensity with low output voltage. So, the solar cell short circuit current values are obtained by measuring the voltage developed across a known resistance Current Shunt. Samples of the obtained current values are accurately calibrated by using a Micropotentiometer (ÎĽpot) thermal element (TE) to validate this new measuring technique. Moreover, the solar cell open circuit voltage has been measured. Besides, the cell output power has been calculated and can be correlated with the measured incident radiation
Strange Fluctuations at RHIC
Robust statistical observables can be used to extract the novel isospin
fluctuations from background contributions in K-short K-plus measurements in
nuclear collisions. To illustrate how this can be done, we present new HIJING
and UrQMD computations of these observables.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figures, talk at Quark Matter 200
