The response of EEG signal on Brain Relaxation Meditation using different type of zikr
Depression and stress are increasingly prevalent in todayโs society, owing to
people's hectic, competitive, and demanding lifestyles. These illnesses had become very
common, particularly among young and middle-aged people, and suicidal ideation had been
identified as one of the leading causes of death by the World Health Organization (WHO).
Nature sound (sound of downpours or beach) has been linked to depression and anxiety in
neurology research, and it has been shown to be an alternative to alleviate anxiety. The
electroencephalogram (EEG) waveform has been discovered to possess the potential in
identifying information from the brain signal as well as data from the past via Bluetooth
communication. The waveform use in the study are the result of a few experiments. In this
study, EEG data were collected from eight subjects, four males and four females, in between
the age of 20 to 30 years old and in good health, using the BrainLink device. The participants
were asked to listen to two playlists of zikr, Allah, Ya Allah, and SubhanAllah, during the
experiments. To smooth the signal, the Butterworth filter was used. Later, the extracted
features were Alpha, Beta, and Delta waves, which were segmented based on the filtered
signal. To complete the decision-making stage, the average value of amplitude differences and
the p-value test were performed in the final phase. Based on the results of the experiments, it is
clear that zikr is dominant in Delta wave. In terms of data hypothesis analysis, the results of
both experiment were differentiated to determine which brain signal was dominant, and pvalue testing was performed. Furthermore, this research is an alternative to current methods
because it suggest that zikr has the tendency to alter a person's brain state to be either in a
relaxed or calm mode regardless of the type of zikr recitation. As an outcome, the study
recommends the relationship of the reaction of EEG signal on brain relaxation with different
types of zikr in order to facilitate stress and anxiety patients to achieve relax or calm condition
The effect of meditation on brain relaxation incorporating different physiological activities
Anxiety and depression have become such a widespread illness. It has been affecting
people's health which can lead to suicidal tendencies. Studies related to depression and stress
with the nervous system had been conducted and showed that slow music could be one of the
methods to reduce stress. Electroencephalogram (EEG) signal is found to have potentials to
detect brainwave signal as in real time data as well as history data through Bluetooth wireless
communication. All the signals utilized in this paper are obtained from few experiments done,
which contains of various physiological activities done by the volunteers. The features of EEG
signal then will be extracted using EEG recorder. Based on the experimentation result, it can be
observed that different physiological activities will result in different dominant brainwave signal.
For sitting at rest, shows alpha wave dominant compared to others. For the second physiological
activity which is listening and reciting the zikr, shows delta wave is the most dominant compared
to alpha, beta, theta, and gamma and for walking in the park showed presiding in beta wave. As
for the benchmarking, all the three physiological activities were compared to know which
brainwave is the most ascendant. In addition, this study is a better alternative to the current
approaches since it proves that zikr will change a person state of brain to be more relax and
calming. Thus, the research will propose a study of the effect of brainwave on brain relaxation
in corporation with different physiological activities to help anxiety and stress patient to relax
and stay calm
Wearable smartphone sync wireless remote health monitoring system
Photoplethysmogram (PPG) signal is found to have potentials to detect pulse rate, Galvanic Skin Response (GSR) signal to detect skin conductivity and skin temperature as in real time data as well as history data through Bluetooth wireless commu-nication. All the signals utilized in this paper are obtained from few experiments done, which contains of various PPG and GSR signals from volunteers. The features of PPG and GSR signals such as the beginning and end point of a cycle of PPG signal and its peaks then will be extracted using Processing.org. Test results from a group of volunteers shows the real-time temperature reading successfully monitored locally (at home). The reading taken are the pulse rate, body temperature and skin conductivity. Based on the experimentation result, it can be observed that female have higher pulse rate as compared to male. Besides that, for body temperature, male have higher body temperature than female. For skin conductivity, male have higher skin conductivity than female due to their physical activity. The readings had been later compared to commercial pulse rate, body temperature thermometer as well as skin conductivity device. Based on the benchmarking, all three sensors has error which is less than 3% which shows that it is good reliable. In addition, this study is a better alternative to the cur-rent approaches since it combines three test parameters in one portable device. Thus the research will propose a remote health monitoring system which combines three vital tests parameters to facilitate caretakers, medical practitioners in observ-ing the patient in need
How do you express yourself?
The IIUM SEMINAR SERIES are e-books based on Phase 1 Kulliyyah of Medicine, IIUM, MBBS student seminar presentations. As part of the curriculum, all students are required to present one seminar. Topics covered are varied and not necessarily related to medicine.
This e-book is based on the topic of self-expression touching on the definition, importance and various forms of self- expression. It will also cover tips to enhance self-expression and some Islamic input on the topic
