Helios and Tenasi results for the workshop for integrated propeller prediction

    Get PDF
Beginning in 2018, the AIAA began the workshop for integrated propeller prediction. This effort was intended to bolster the CFD prediction capabilities of the aerospace community due to a resurgent interest in propeller driven vehicles for electric applications. The test bed for this workshop is the NASA X-57, a model of which was experimentally tested in the Lockheed Martin Low Speed Wind Tunnel in January 2019. Using the 3D scanned geometry provided by the workshop a mesh was created and all priority one simulations were performed using two flow solvers. The flow solvers used were Helios, developed by the ADD office, and Tenasi developed at the UTC SimCenter. The flow solvers were compared as closely as possible with results relating directly to the metrics studied by the experimental tests. This includes the aerodynamic parameters of C_D, C_L, C_T. This also includes C_P plots at 6 span locations for all cases and lastly a wake survey yielding integrated torque and thrust values for the powered propeller case. The results show that while Tenasi functions well as an all-purpose solver, outperforming Helios in some areas, the best predictions of the propellers and their interactions come from the Helios flow solver

The People of Bear Hunter Speak: Oral Histories of the Cache Valley Shoshones Regarding the Bear River Massacre

    Get PDF
The Cache Valley Shoshone are the survivors of the Bear River Massacre, where a battle between a group of US. volunteer troops from California and a Shoshone village degenerated into the worst Indian massacre in US. history, resulting in the deaths of over 200 Shoshones. The massacre occurred due to increasing tensions over land use between the Shoshones and the Mormon settlers. Following the massacre, the Shoshones attempted settling in several different locations in Box Elder County, eventually finding a home in Washakie, Utah. However, the LDS Church sold the land where the city of Washakie sat, forcing the Shoshones to adapt quickly. Much of our knowledge of the massacre stems from either white American sources or the oral histories that circulate among one Shoshone family group. This leaves the information incomplete. Adding the voices of more individuals expands our knowledge of the massacre itself and the adaptations the Shoshones continue to make in order to survive

Fierce Patriot: The Tangled Lives of William Tecumseh Sherman

A Personal Look at Shermanā€™s Grand Vision The historical reputation of William Tecumseh Sherman has carried some heavy baggage since his death. For generations of Southerners, he embodied the vengeful hand of war. Many saw him as the harbinger of the bloody twentieth century; indeed, the t...

Purification and characterization of zyxin, an 82,000-Dalton component of adherens junctions

    Get PDF
Journal ArticleWe describe here the purification and characterization of a recently identified adherens junction protein that has an apparent molecular mass of 82 kDa on sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gels (Beckerle, M. C. (1986) J. Cell Biol. 103, 1679-1687). The 82-kDa protein was isolated from avian smooth muscle by a low ionic strength alkaline pH extraction followed by ammonium sulfate fractionation

    Interaction between zyxin and Ī±-actinin

Journal ArticleZyxin is an 82-kD protein first identified as a component of adhesion plaques and the termini of stress fibers near where they associate with the cytoplasmic face of the adhesive membrane. We report here that zyxin interacts with the actin cross-linking protein Ī±-actinin

Trade and the Wage Structure: The Case of Manufacturing

    Get PDF
This paper considers the relationship between international competitiveness and labour market outcomes in New Zealand manufacturing over a twenty-one-year period from 1978 through 1998. Regression evidence suggests increased globalisation has had important and significant impacts on labour demand, particular in the heavily trade-impacted manufacturing sector of the New Zealand economy. The analysis presented suggests foreign competitors are able to capture rents that would othe1wise accrue to domestic producers. In particular entry of international competitors into domestic markets decreases demand f01Ā· (domestic) labour in those industries. In terms of the New Zealand economy, this is manifest, not through lower wages, but through lower employment levels in those markets most affected by imports. Exports, on the other hand, appear to have a positive effect on both wages and employment, although all of the former and much of the latter effect were offset by effects of the Employment Contracts Act (ECA) in the 1990s

Biochemical and molecular characterization of the chicken cysteine-rich protein, a developmentally regulated LIM-domain protein that is associated with the actin cytoskeleton

Journal ArticleLIM domains are present in a number of proteins including transcription factors, a protooncogene product, and the adhesion plaque protein zyxin. The LIM domain exhibits a characteristic arrangement of cysteine and histidine residues and represents a novel zinc binding sequence (Michelsen et al., 1993)
