Additive and Multiplicative Noise Driven Systems in 1+1 Dimensions: Waiting Time Extraction of Nucleation Rates
We study the rate of true vacuum bubble nucleation numerically for a phi^4
field system coupled to a source of thermal noise. We compare in detail the
cases of additive and multiplicative noise. We pay special attention to the
choice of initial field configuration, showing the advantages of a version of
the quenching technique. We advocate a new method of extracting the nucleation
time scale that employs the full distribution of nucleation times. Large data
samples are needed to study the initial state configuration choice and to
extract nucleation times to good precision. The 1+1 dimensional models afford
large statistics samples in reasonable running times. We find that for both
additive and multiplicative models, nucleation time distributions are well fit
by a waiting time, or gamma, distribution for all parameters studied. The
nucleation rates are a factor three or more slower for the multiplicative
compared to the additive models with the same dimensionless parameter choices.
Both cases lead to high confidence level linear fits of ln(nucleation time) vs.
1/T plots, in agreement with semiclassical nucleation rate predictions.Comment: 38 pages, 20 figures, 6 table

Pre-and post-puberty physiological plasma oxytocin concentrations in male domestic cats (Felis silvestris catus)
The hormone oxytocin is released by the neuropituitary gland through stimulation of the neurons of the supraoptic and paraventricular nuclei of the hypothalamus. In order to determine the physiological concentrations of this hormone in domestic cats, blood samples were collected from 15 male animals (Felis silvestris catus) during the pre- and post-puberty periods (at four and eight months of age, respectively). Oxytocin determination was accomplished by radioimmunoassay. The average oxytocin concentrations measured in the pre- and post-puberty periods were 2.54±0.24 (μg/dL) and 2.53±0.28 (μg/dL), respectively, and there were no statistical differences between these measurements. Because there are few literature on the analysis of this hormone, especially in the case of male Felis silvestris catus, more studies on the influence of oxytocin on the physiology and reproduction of this species should be conducted under maintenance and situations of stress (such as transportation), and other routine events
The OB and OV cultivars were eight years old, and MN plants had been topped five years ago. Spacing among the plants were 3.6 x 1.0 m, 2.5 x 1.0 m and 3.5 x 0.75 m, respectively. Predawn leaf water potential (ψam) was measured each 15 days. Xylem water potential along the day (ψa) was measured at the end of April. Data concerning leaf ψam varied according to the soil water profile as affect by seasonal rainfall. ψam values were -1.29, -1.60 and -1.68 MPa during dry months and -0.06, -0.07 and -0.07 MPa during months of greater precipitations for MN, OB and OV, respectively. These values were important and relevant to Arabic coffee cultivars in order to characterize plant water status along the year, because the period of water stress was coincident with the phase of induction (February at June) and maturation of flowering buds; and the period of greater rainfall with the phase of grain filling and fruit maturation
