Métodos para superar a dormência tegumentar em sementes de jurema-preta (Mimosa hostilis Benth.).

Este trabalho foi realizado com o objetivo de avaliar a eficiência de tratamentos físicos e químicos na germinação e no vigor (Índice de Velocidade de Germinação – IVG), em sementes de jurema-preta (Mimosa hostilis Benth.). Os tratamentos testados foram: sementes imersas em H2SO4 (98%) por 1, 5, 10 e 15 minutos; em água, a 100oC, por 1 e 3 minutos; em água à temperatura ambiente, por 36 e 72 horas; escarificação mecânica, por 20 e 40 segundos; choque térmico em estufa a 55oC por 24 e 48 horas e sementes em condições naturais. Os resultados obtidos que a escarificação ácida por 5 a 15 minuts, e a mecânica, por 20 a 40 segundos, mostraram-se mais eficientes na quebra da dormência de sementes dessa espécie

Trajectories in a space with a spherically symmetric dislocation

We consider a new type of defect in the scope of linear elasticity theory, using geometrical methods. This defect is produced by a spherically symmetric dislocation, or ball dislocation. We derive the induced metric as well as the affine connections and curvature tensors. Since the induced metric is discontinuous, one can expect ambiguity coming from these quantities, due to products between delta functions or its derivatives, plaguing a description of ball dislocations based on the Geometric Theory of Defects. However, exactly as in the previous case of cylindric defect, one can obtain some well-defined physical predictions of the induced geometry. In particular, we explore some properties of test particle trajectories around the defect and show that these trajectories are curved but can not be circular orbits.Comment: 11 pages, 3 figure

Teleparallel Spin Connection

A new expression for the spin connection of teleparallel gravity is proposed, given by minus the contorsion tensor plus a zero connection. The corresponding minimal coupling is covariant under local Lorentz transformation, and equivalent to the minimal coupling prescription of general relativity. With this coupling prescription, therefore, teleparallel gravity turns out to be fully equivalent to general relativity, even in the presence of spinor fields.Comment: 2 pages, RevTeX, to appear in Phys. Brachiaria brizantha cv. Piatã: gramínea recomendada para solos bem-drenados do Acre.

O capim-piatã (Brachiaria brizantha cv. BRS Piatã) é uma nova cultivar de braquiária, lançada pela Embrapa em 2007, como mais uma alternativa para a diversificação das pastagens no Brasil. Trata-se de uma cultivar selecionada após 16 anos de avaliações pela Embrapa e parceiros, em estudos realizados em diversas regiões do País. No Acre, essa cultivar foi avaliada em canteiros entre 1997 e 1999, visando comparar o seu desempenho ao de outros 16 genótipos de Brachiaria brizantha. Posteriormente, entre 2007 e 2010, o capim-piatã foi avaliado em duas unidades de observação estabelecidas em propriedades particulares quanto à susceptibilidade a pragas e doenças, especialmente a síndrome da morte do capim-brizantão. Esta publicação apresenta as principais características do capim-piatã, descreve o seu desempenho e adaptação às condições edafoclimáticas e aos sistemas produtivos do Acre e traz as principais recomendações disponibilizadas pela pesquisa para o plantio e manejo dessa cultivar.bitstream/item/35158/1/CIT-54.pd

Gravitation and Duality Symmetry

By generalizing the Hodge dual operator to the case of soldered bundles, and working in the context of the teleparallel equivalent of general relativity, an analysis of the duality symmetry in gravitation is performed. Although the basic conclusion is that, at least in the general case, gravitation is not dual symmetric, there is a particular theory in which this symmetry shows up. It is a self dual (or anti-self dual) teleparallel gravity in which, due to the fact that it does not contribute to the interaction of fermions with gravitation, the purely tensor part of torsion is assumed to vanish. The ensuing fermionic gravitational interaction is found to be chiral. Since duality is intimately related to renormalizability, this theory may eventually be more amenable to renormalization than teleparallel gravity or general relativity.Comment: 7 pages, no figures.
