    Mértola in Late Antiquity: new archeological and epigraphic data

    En Mértola se ha encontrado recientemente un considerable grupo de inscripciones paleocristianas que se asocian a dos monumentos de la Antigüedad Tardía. Uno de ellos parcialmente conocido, otro totalmente inédito. Los dos han sido objeto de excavaciones entre 2008 y 2009. Los nuevos textos epigráficos vienen a aumentar la ya numerosa colección epigráfica conocida y a reforzar la idea del uso de las lenguas griega y latina en el seno de una misma comunidad, la del puerto fluvial de Mértola, en el siglo VI d.C.Recently a new group of paleochristian inscriptions and two new monuments were found in Mértola. One of them was already known, but the other was ignored till now. Both were excavated between 2008 and 2009. The new epigraphic texts increase the large epigraphical collection already known, reinforcing the idea that both latin and greek were used within the same community, in the fluvial harbour of Mértola, in VI century a.C

    This work deals with the formation of black hole in bidimensional dilaton gravity coupled to scalar matter fields. We investigate two scalar matter systems, one described by a sixth power potential and the other defined with two scalar fields containing up to the fourth power in the fields.     Large deviations for non-uniformly expanding maps

    We obtain large deviation results for non-uniformly expanding maps with non-flat singularities or criticalities and for partially hyperbolic non-uniformly expanding attracting sets. That is, given a continuous function we consider its space average with respect to a physical measure and compare this with the time averages along orbits of the map, showing that the Lebesgue measure of the set of points whose time averages stay away from the space average decays to zero exponentially fast with the number of iterates involved. As easy by-products we deduce escape rates from subsets of the basins of physical measures for these types of maps. The rates of decay are naturally related to the metric entropy and pressure function of the system with respect to a family of equilibrium states.     We discuss the two-dimensional dilaton gravity with a scalar field as the source matter. The coupling between the gravity and the scalar, massless, field is presented in an unusual form. We work out two examples of these couplings and solutions with black-hole behaviour are discussed and compared with those found in the literature

    Design of experiments to assess pre-treatment and co-digestion strategies that optimize biogas production from macroalgae Gracilaria vermiculophylla

    A design of experiments was applied to evaluate different strategies to enhance the methane yield of macroalgae Gracilaria vermiculophylla. Biochemical Methane Potential (BMP) of G. vermiculophylla after physical pre-treatment (washing and maceration) reached 481 ± 9 L CH4 kg−1 VS, corresponding to a methane yield of 79 ± 2%. No significant effects were achieved in the BMP after thermochemical pre-treatment, although the seaweeds solubilisation increased up to 44%. Co-digestion with glycerol or sewage sludge has proved to be effective for increasing the methane production. Addition of 2% glycerol (w:w) increased the BMP by 18%, achieving almost complete methanation of the substrate (96 ± 3%).     Quality in management accounting: approach by activities in large companies

    This study intends to contribute to the knowledge about the approach by activities, a management accounting method that promotes the quality of information. As specific objectives we have identified the following: to analyze the knowledge rate regarding the approach by activities, and identify whether there is a link between it and the financial officers’ characteristics; to analyze the utilization rate of the approach by activities, and the factors conditioning it; to analyze whether there is a link between a company’s features, and the use of the approach by activities. The data collection method used was the application of a survey to the financial officers of the largest Portuguese companies, which yielded 61 valid responses. The results found allowed us to conclude the following: the Time Driven Activity Based Costing is very little known and used in Portugal; there is a link between the knowledge of the approach by activities and the financial officers’ gender, age and educational background; there is a link between the use of the approach by activities and two company features: the legal form and the capital holding.info:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersio

    Optimization of biogas production from Sargassum sp. using a design of experiments to assess the co-digestion with glycerol and waste frying oil

    A Design of Experiments was adopted to assess the optimal conditions for methane production from the macroalgae Sargassum sp. co-digested with glycerol (Gly) and waste frying oil (WFO). Three variables were tested:% total solids of algae (%TSSargassumsp.), co-substrate concentration (gGly/WFO L-1); and, co-substrate type (Gly or WFO). The Biochemical Methane Potential (BMP) of Sargassum sp. was 181±1 L CH4 kg-1 COD. The co-digestion with Gly and WFO increased the BMP by 56% and 46%, respectively. The methane production rate (k), showed similar behaviour as the BMP, increasing 38% and 19% with Gly and WFO, respectively. The higher BMP (283±18 L CH4 kg-1 COD) and k (65.9±2.1 L CH4 kg-1 COD d-1) was obtained in the assay with 0.5% TS and 3.0 gGly L-1.
