Decoherence of tripartite states - a trapped ion coupled to an optical cavity

We investigate the non-dissipative decoherence of three qubit system obtained by manipulating the state of a trapped two-level ion coupled to an optical cavity. Modelling the environment as a set of noninteracting harmonic oscillators, analytical expressions for the state operator of tripartite composite system, the probability of generating maximally entangled GHZ state, and the population inversion have been obtained. The pointer observable is the energy of the isolated quantum system. Coupling to environment results in exponential decay of off diagonal matrix elements of the state operator with time as well as a phase decoherence of the component states. Numerical calculations to examine the time evolution of GHZ state generation probability and population inversion for different system environment coupling strengths are performed. Using negativity as an entanglement measure and linear entropy as a measure of mixedness, the entanglement dynamics of the tripartite system in the presence of decoherence is analysed.Comment: Revised version, errors corrected and references added. 12 pages, 6 figures, Presented at ICSSUR May 2005, Besancon, Franc

Nonadiabatic coherent evolution of two-level systems under spontaneous decay

In this paper we extend current perspectives in engineering reservoirs by producing a time-dependent master equation leading to a nonstationary superposition equilibrium state that can be nonadiabatically controlled by the system-reservoir parameters. Working with an ion trapped inside a nonindeal cavity we first engineer effective Hamiltonians that couple the electronic states of the ion with the cavity mode. Subsequently, two classes of decoherence-free evolution of the superposition of the ground and decaying excited levels are achieved: those with time-dependent azimuthal or polar angle. As an application, we generalise the purpose of an earlier study [Phys. Rev. Lett. 96, 150403 (2006)], showing how to observe the geometric phases acquired by the protected nonstationary states even under a nonadiabatic evolution.Comment: 5 pages, no figure

    Spin-glass behaviour on random lattices

The ground-state phase diagram of an Ising spin-glass model on a random graph with an arbitrary fraction ww of ferromagnetic interactions is analysed in the presence of an external field. Using the replica method, and performing an analysis of stability of the replica-symmetric solution, it is shown that w=1/2w=1/2, correponding to an unbiased spin glass, is a singular point in the phase diagram, separating a region with a spin-glass phase (w<1/2w<1/2) from a region with spin-glass, ferromagnetic, mixed, and paramagnetic phases (w>1/2w>1/2)

Scarring by homoclinic and heteroclinic orbits

In addition to the well known scarring effect of periodic orbits, we show here that homoclinic and heteroclinic orbits, which are cornerstones in the theory of classical chaos, also scar eigenfunctions of classically chaotic systems when associated closed circuits in phase space are properly quantized, thus introducing strong quantum correlations. The corresponding quantization rules are also established. This opens the door for developing computationally tractable methods to calculate eigenstates of chaotic systems.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure

Rheological Behaviour of PP Nanocomposites by Extrusion Process

The effect of organophilic clay (C15A) in PP compatibilized polymer (PP/PP-g-MA) through rheological experimental results is presented. This study focusses on the description of the rheological behaviour of the organophilic layers along the screws of a twin screw extruder by melting process, varying the screw profile as well as the processing conditions, namely screw speed, temperature and feed rate. Different levels of dispersion were found along the screws for all conditions and positions analyzed by rheology. The qualitative analysis of the images obtained by transmission electron microscopy, reinforced the results. Furthermore, the effects of the processing conditions on dispersion of C15A layers along the screw profile are analyzed using multiple linear regression techniques. The results show statistically significant differences of all rheology measures for all the processing conditions and positions along the extruder.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
