This study is conducted to develop simple, rapid but efficient bio-nutritional techniques using nutrient solution, soil and sand cultures to assess the adaptability of nutrient solution, soil and sand cultures to assess the adaptability of forage crops to various soil conditions, to determine the P requirements and tolerance of the plants in relation to nodulation, dry matter yield rooting density and other components of growth of various accessions, to evaluate relative growth and phosphorus use efficiency of various accession, and to classify the various leucaena accessions into low, moderate and high responsive accession groups

Copper in soils, plants and ruminant animal nutrition with special reference to sub-Saharan Africa

    No full text
Examines the present status of research on copper (Cu) in the soil, plant and ruminant animal system in sub-Saharan Africa with emphasis on forage crops. The soil content of total and available Cu and the distribution of Cu in the soil profile are demonstrated. The biochemical role of Cu in the plant and diagnostic criteria for detecting Cu deficiency, adequacy and toxicity were reviewed. The need to ensure adequate Cu in the soil and plant to provide micronutrient requirements for ruminant animals is stressed

Soil, plant, water, fertilizer, animal manure and compost analysis manual

    No full text
Describes procedures for the analysis of chemical constituents in soil, plant, water, fertilizer, animal manure and compost samples. Includes simple procedures for collecting, preparing and storing samples, including information on the need to care for field and laboratory materials such as sampling tools, glasswares and other general precautions required for adequate and reliable analytical results. The procedures include organic matter, total and available nitrogen & phosphorus, exchangable cations, cation exchange capacity, micronutrient elements, exchangable aluminium, lime requirement, gypsum content in soil, plant and water analysis for mineral nutrients and moisture in fertilizers, animal manure and compost
