Charged stripes from alternating static magnetic field
We motivate and perform a calculation of the energy of a cold fluid of
charged fermions in the presence of a striped magnetic background. We find that

Relationship between incommensurability and superconductivity in Peierls distorted charge-density-wave systems
We study the pairing potential induced by fluctuations around a
charge-density wave (CDW) with scattering vector Q by means of the Froehlich
transformation. For general commensurability M, defined as |k+M*Q>=|k>, we find
that the intraband pair scattering within the M subbands scales with M whereas
the interband pair scattering becomes suppressed with increasing CDW order
parameter. As a consequence superconductivity is suppressed when the Fermi
energy is located between the subbands as it is usually the case for nesting
induced CDW's, but due to the vertex renormalization it can be substantially
enhanced when the chemical potential is shifted sufficiently inside one of the
subbands. The model can help to understand the experimentally observed
dependence of the superconducting transition temperature from the stripe phase
incommensurability in the lanthanum cuprates.Comment: 6 pages, 3 figure
Charge order and low frequency spin dynamics in lanthanum cuprates revealed by Nuclear Magnetic Resonance
We report detailed 17O, 139La, and 63Cu Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) and
Nuclear Quadrupole Resonance (NQR) measurements in a stripe ordered
La1.875Ba0.125CuO4 single crystal and in oriented powder samples of
La1.8-xEu0.2SrxCuO4. We observe a partial wipeout of the 17O NMR intensity and
a simultaneous drop of the 17O electric field gradient (EFG) at low
temperatures where the spin stripe order sets in. In contrast, the 63Cu
intensity is completely wiped out at the same temperature. The drop of the 17O
quadrupole frequency is compatible with a charge stripe order. The 17O spin
lattice relaxation rate shows a peak similar to that of the 139La, which is of
magnetic origin. This peak is doping dependent and is maximal at x ~ 1/8.Comment: submitted to European Physical Journal Special Topic
Coarsening of Surface Structures in Unstable Epitaxial Growth
We study unstable epitaxy on singular surfaces using continuum equations with
a prescribed slope-dependent surface current. We derive scaling relations for
the late stage of growth, where power law coarsening of the mound morphology is
observed. For the lateral size of mounds we obtain with . An analytic treatment within a self-consistent mean-field
approximation predicts multiscaling of the height-height correlation function,
while the direct numerical solution of the continuum equation shows
conventional scaling with z=4, independent of the shape of the surface current.Comment: 15 pages, Latex. Submitted to PR
Global QCD analysis and dark photons
Published: September 15, 2023We perform a global QCD analysis of high energy scattering data within the JAM Monte Carlo framework, including a coupling to a dark photon that augments the Standard Model (SM) electroweak coupling via kinetic mixing with the hypercharge B boson. We first set limits on the dark photon mass and mixing parameter assuming that the SM is the true theory of Nature, taking into account also the effect on g – 2 of the muon. If instead we entertain the possibility that the dark photon may play a role in deep-inelastic scattering (DIS), we find that the best fit is preferred over the SM at 6.5σ, even after accounting for missing higher order uncertainties. The improvement in χ² with the dark photon is stable against all the tests we have applied, with the improvements in the theoretical predictions spread across a wide range of x and Q². The largest improvement corresponds to the fixed target and HERA DIS data, while the best fit yields a value of g – 2 which significantly reduces the disagreement with the latest experimental determination.N. Cluster Spin Glass Distribution Functions in LaSrCuO
Signatures of the cluster spin glass have been found in a variety of
experiments, with an effective onset temperature that is frequency
dependent. We reanalyze the experimental results and find that they are
characterized by a distribution of activation energies, with a nonzero glass
transition temperature . While the distribution of activation
energies is the same, the distribution of weights depends on the process.
Remarkably, the weights are essentially doping independent.Comment: 5 pages, 5 ps figure
Antineutrinos from Earth: A reference model and its uncertainties
We predict geoneutrino fluxes in a reference model based on a detailed
description of Earth's crust and mantle and using the best available
information on the abundances of uranium, thorium, and potassium inside Earth's
layers. We estimate the uncertainties of fluxes corresponding to the
uncertainties of the element abundances. In addition to distance integrated
fluxes, we also provide the differential fluxes as a function of distance from
several sites of experimental interest. Event yields at several locations are
estimated and their dependence on the neutrino oscillation parameters is
discussed. At Kamioka we predict N(U+Th)=35 +- 6 events for 10^{32} proton yr
and 100% efficiency assuming sin^2(2theta)=0.863 and delta m^2 = 7.3 X 10^{-5}
eV^2. The maximal prediction is 55 events, obtained in a model with fully

Morphologies of AGN host galaxies using HST/ACS in the CDFS-GOODS field
Using HST/ACS images in four bands F435W, F606W, F775W and F850LP, we
identify optical counterparts to the X-ray sources in the Chandra Deep Field
South in the GOODS South field. A detailed study has been made of these sources
to study their morphological types. We use methods like decomposition of galaxy
luminosity profiles, color maps and visual inspection of 192 galaxies which are
identified as possible optical counterparts of Chandra X-ray sources in the
CDFS-GOODS field. We find that most moderate luminosity AGN hosts are bulge
dominated in the redshift range (z \approx 0.4-1.3), but not
merging/interacting galaxies. This implies probable fueling of the moderate
luminosity AGN by mechanisms other than those merger driven.Comment: pdflatex, accepted in ApSS. revisions in tex
Mesoscopic phase separation in La2CuO4.02 - a 139La NQR study
In crystals of La2CuO4.02 oxygen diffusion can be limited to such small
length scales, that the resulting phase separation is invisible for neutrons.
Decomposition of the 139La NQR spectra shows the existence of three different
regions, of which one orders antiferromagnetically below 17K concomitantly with
the onset of a weak superconductivity in the crystal. These regions are
compared to the macroscopic phases seen previously in the title compound and
the cluster-glass and striped phases reported for the underdoped Sr-doped

Dimensionality of spin modulations in 1/8-doped lanthanum cuprates from the perspective of NQR and muSR experiments
We investigate the dimensionality of inhomogeneous spin modulation patterns
in the cuprate family of high-temperature superconductors with particular focus
on 1/8-doped lanthanum cuprates. We compare one-dimensional stripe modulation
pattern with two-dimensional checkerboard of spin vortices in the context of
nuclear quadrupole resonance(NQR) and muon spin rotation(muSR) experiments. In
addition, we also consider the third pattern, a two-dimensional superposition
of spin spirals. Overall, we have found that none of the above patterns leads
to a consistent interpretation of the two types of experiments considered.
This, in particular, implies that the spin vortex checkerboard cannot be ruled
out on the basis of available NQR/muSR experimental results.Comment: 6 pages, 2 figure
