Quantum-enhanced magnetometry by phase estimation algorithms with a single artificial atom

Phase estimation algorithms are key protocols in quantum information processing. Besides applications in quantum computing, they can also be employed in metrology as they allow for fast extraction of information stored in the quantum state of a system. Here, we implement two suitably modified phase estimation procedures, the Kitaev and the semiclassical Fourier-transform algorithms, using an artificial atom realized with a superconducting transmon circuit. We demonstrate that both algorithms yield a flux sensitivity exceeding the classical shot-noise limit of the device, allowing one to approach the Heisenberg limit. Our experiment paves the way for the use of superconducting qubits as metrological devices which are potentially able to outperform the best existing flux sensors with a sensitivity enhanced by few orders of magnitude

Isovector soft dipole mode in 6Be

By using the 1H(6Li,6Be)n charge-exchange reaction, continuum states in 6Be were populated up to E_t=16 MeV, E_t being the 6Be energy above its three-body decay threshold. In kinematically complete measurements performed by detecting alpha+p+p coincidences, an E_t spectrum of high statistics was obtained, containing approximately ~5x10^6 events. The spectrum provides detailed correlation information about the well-known 0^+ ground state of 6Be at E_t=1.37 MeV and its 2^+ state at E_t=3.05 MeV. Moreover, a broad structure extending from 4 to 16 MeV was observed. It contains negative parity states populated by Delta L=1 angular momentum transfer without other significant contributions. This structure can be interpreted as a novel phenomenon, i.e. the isovector soft dipole mode associated with the 6Li ground state. The population of this mode in the charge-exchange reaction is a dominant phenomenon for this reaction, being responsible for about 60% of the cross section obtained in the measured energy range.Comment: 8 pages, 7 figure

Alcoholism is a severe chronic mental illness, often subordinating all aspects of the patient’s life and quickly leading to social degradation. In recent years we observed a certain change in the attitude towards the classical therapeutic approach, which implies a complete abstention from alcohol intake. This was due to the research on pharmacological agents that can affect the brain reinforcement system, thereby reducing craving and decreasing the amount of alcohol consumed. This article describes a clinical case of changing the pattern of alcohol abuse during the use of opioid receptor antagonist naltrexone in the form of injections for the treatment of a patient with severe alcohol dependence, resistant to psychopharmacotherapy. The effectiveness and duration of the treatment course is determined primarily by patients’ motivation or by the interest of persons close to the patient.

Seborrheic dermatitis (SD) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease. Genetic predisposition, hormonal disorders, neurohumoral, metabolic, and immune changes play an important role in the development of this disease. All these factors lead to activation of pathogenic microbial flora and development of the skin rash characteristic of SD. Malassezia fungus is currently believed to be the main etiological factor in the development of SD. In this paper, the authors draw attention to the characteristic features of seborrheic dermatitis in patients with neuropsychiatric disorders. Authors report their own observations. The use of Nizoral shampoo twice a week for 1 month was recommended as a topical therapy. In 58.3% of patients, no symptoms of seborrheic dermatitis were observed 1 month after administration of Nizoral shampoo. In 41.7% of patients, there was no itching and peeling, but minor hyperemia at the areas of rash was preserved. After the end of therapy, a two-month-long remission was observed in2/3 of patients, while others had only slight peeling. In view of the intense sebostatic effect of 2% ketoconazole, it can be recommended for the use in the form of shampoo for treatment and prevention of seborrheic dermatitis in patients at specialized institutions. The ease of use greatly facilitates the care for patients with psychoneurological disorders. © 2015, Media Sphera Publishing Group. All rights reserved

107 patients (34 female and 73 male) diagnosed with “generalized psoriasis vulgaris, exudative form, progressive stage” were evaluated for the levels of anxiety and depression. These measurements were carried out along with psychiatrist interview, taking into consideration anamnestic and status information. 67,3% of patients unhesitatingly marked that a previous psychological trauma had caused the current exacerbation of psoriasis. The study reveals interrelationship between the psychiatric and somatic components of psoriasis. We managed to reach marked remission in 19 patients using low doses of psychotropic drugs along with primary dermatological treatment.107 пациентов (34 женщины и 73 мужчины) с диагнозом “генерализованный вульгарный псориаз, экссудативная форма, прогрессирующая стадия” были оценены по уровню тревожности и депрессии.

Psoriasis is a multifactorial polygenic disease. Genetic markers of psoriasis still remain undetected. At the same time, the combined course of psoriasis with anxiety and depressive disorders suggests the participation of anxiety-associated genetic markers in the development of dermatosis. The aim of the study. To evaluate the association between single nucleotide change T > C in the gene MIR22 and psoriasis. Material and methods. The main group consisted of 88 patients with psoriasis (L40 according to the International Classification of Diseases-10), the control group - 165 unexplored persons. Genotyping was performed by using polymerase chain reaction - polymorphism of restriction DNA fragment lengths. Statistical analysis was processed using WinPepi, a two-way Fisher test. Results. Found the connection of TT genotype (replacement of T > C) with psoriasis (p = 0.030). The mechanisms of the identified link require further study.
