Changes in shoulder kinematics of transradial amputees following the use of multi-grip prosthetic hands: a case study

The Otto-Bock Michelangelo hand features multi-grip patterns and a fractioned wrist, which make it a technological step-forward in myoelectric prosthesis. In a pilot study, the upper limb kinematics of a trans-radial amputee was assessed, fitted both with the standard Digital Twin and the Michelangelo hand, during a selection of Activities of Daily Living. In order to have a reference for the kinematics, the sound side was collected too. Results show that the Otto-Bock Michelangelo hand features positively affected the shoulder biomechanics of the transradial amputee, leading to a major advantage over the Digital-Twin hand in terms of preservation of the shoulder joint
