Understanding the fabrication mechanism of graphitic carbon nitride (gC3N4) nanostructures is critical for tailoring their physicochemical properties for various catalytic applications. In this article, we provide deep insights into the optimized parameters for the rational synthesis of one-dimensional gC3N4 atomically doped with Pd and Cu denoted as (Pd/Cu/gC3N4NTs) and its fabrication mechanism. This is in addition to the CO oxidation durability along with the electrochemical and photoelectrochemical CO2 reduction durability of Pd/Cu/gC3N4NTs. The presented herein results are correlated to the research article entitled “Precise Fabrication of Porous One-dimensional gC3N4 Nanotubes Doped with Pd and Cu Atoms for Efficient CO Oxidation and CO2 Reduction (Kamel Eid et al., 2019).This publication was supported by Qatar university Grant No. IRCC 179 . Get PDF
A series of vanadium substituted potassium hexagonal tungsten bronzes KxVyW1-yO3 (K-HTB) were prepared by conventional solid state method at 800 °C with compositions of x = 0.30 and 0.00 ? y ? 0.15. A mixture of K-HTB and non bronze phases with y ? 0.20 was observed. The proportion of this non bronze phase increases with increasing vanadium content. The non bronze phases in the mixture could not be indexed yet. In contrast, a very small amount of vanadium can be substituted in potassium tetragonal tungsten bronzes (K-TTB) at 800 °C with x = 0.50 and 0.00 ? y ? 0.02, however at 700 °C vanadium substituted K-TTB can be prepared with 0.00 ? y ? 0.05. Further substitution of vanadium in K-TTB decomposes to K-HTB and non-bronze phases

New electrospun polystyrene/Al2O3 nanocomposite superhydrophobic coatings; Synthesis, characterization, and application

    Get PDF
The effect of electrospinning operational parameters on the morphology, surface roughness, and wettability of different compositions of electrospun polystyrene (PS)-aluminum oxide (Al2O3) nanocomposite coatings was investigated using different techniques. For example, a scanning electron microscope (SEM) coupled with an energy dispersive X-ray (EDX) unit, a Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectrometer, an atomic force microscope (AFM), and water contact angle (WCA), and contact angle hysteresis (CAH) measurements using the sessile droplet method, were used. The latter used 4 μL of distilled water at room temperature. PS/Al2O3 nanocomposite coatings exhibited different morphologies, such as beaded fibers and microfibers, depending on the concentration ratio between the PS and Al2O3 nanoparticles and the operational parameters of the electrospinning process. The optimum conditions to produce a nanocomposite coating with the highest roughness and superhydrophobic properties (155° ± 1.9° for WCA and 3° ± 4.2° for CAH) are 2.5 and 0.25 wt % of PS and Al2O3, respectively, 25 kV for the applied potential and 1.5 mL·h-1 for the solution flow rate at 35 °C. The corrosion resistance of the as-prepared coatings was investigated using the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) technique. The results have revealed that the highly porous superhydrophobic nanocomposite coatings (SHCs) possess a superior corrosion resistance that is higher than the uncoated Al alloy by three orders of magnitude. © 2018 by the authors.Acknowledgments: This publication was supported by Qatar University Internal Grant No. GCC-2017-012. Adoption of Fragrant Rice Farming: The Case of Paddy Farmers in the East Coast Malaysia

    Get PDF
AbstractAnnually, Malaysia has to import approximately 30% of rice, including fragrant rice (Basmati and Jasmine type) to meet the shortage of domestic demand. The import of this specialty rice shows an up surging trend every year with a value of RM500 million. Mas Wangi or MRQ74 that has special characteristics and 80% similar attributes to Basmati type has been officially released in year 2005. The special characteristics such as long and slender grain shape, non- sticky and aromatic rice makes it preferred by Malaysian consumers and enabling it to tap the higher-end rice market, compared to normal white rice. The fragrant rice farming is one of the government initiatives to produce fragrant rice in large areas and needs full commitment from the farmers in non-granary areas. This study seeks to determine factors that influence new rice variety, MRQ74 adoption among paddy farmers in East Coast, Malaysia including the adoption behaviour. The study involved 28 farmers in non-granary areas in two districts; Pasir Mas and Tanah Merah, Kelantan via an in-depth interview approach. The results revealed that apart from the technology characteristics, there are other significant aspects that influence the adoption decision-making of the farmers such as extension services, capital resources, social influences, and institutional factor

The Essence of Law of Community's Participation in the Local Development Planning in Papua

Centralized development strategy is an example of uncertainty bureaucracy to variety of local community development and less responsive of the local community needs/interests including in the lowest level of bureaucracy – called village. The spirit and participation of the local community to develop their capacity and /or their region then cannot be done properly. Basically, the public participation has been governed in some laws such as the Law No. 25/2004, the Law No.32/2004 – has been amanded into the law No. 23/2014 concerning Local Governance. Therefore, the form of the participation as stipulated in those laws needs to use optimally either in terms of planning, implementation, or evaluation of the development in Papua. As it is known that the essense of the public particpation is because the people basically are more understand to the real problems and needs of the development that they are faced. Enhancing the corrosion resistance of reinforcing steel under aggressive operational conditions using behentrimonium chloride

    Get PDF
Aggressive operational conditions e.g. saline media and acidic gases, e.g., CO2 can increase the corrosion rate of reinforcing steel. Accordingly, the necessity to protect the steel under the above conditions without affecting the mechanical properties of the concrete is growing. Herein, the inhibition efficiency of a new corrosion inhibitor, behentrimonium chloride (BTC, C25H54ClN), is explored in a simulated-concrete pore solution (SCP) with 3.5 wt.% NaCl at different pH using electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) and polarization methods. Using only a 50 ?mol L?1 of BTC, we are able to measure an inhibition efficiency of 91, 79, and 71% in SCP solution with 3.5% NaCl at pH of 12.5, 10 and 7, respectively without showing any effect on the mechanical properties on the cured mortars. Temkin isotherm is used to describe the physisorption of BTC inhibitor on the steel surface. Also, the adsorption and influence of the inhibitor on the metal surface are characterized using the scanning electron microscopy, atomic force microscopy, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. In conclusion, this new inhibitor shows high corrosion inhibition efficiencies under different aggressive conditions and can be used in concrete to reduce the corrosion rate of reinforcing steel without decreasing the mechanical properties of the concrete. - 2019, The Author(s).The publication of this article was funded by the Qatar National Library.Scopu
