    General Relativistic Singularity-Free Cosmological Model

    We "explain", using a Classical approach, how the Universe was created out of "nothing", i.e., with no input of initial energy nor mass. The inflationary phase, with exponential expansion, is accounted for, automatically, by our equation of state for the very early Universe.     The authors describe an automated calorimeter for measurement of the sp. heats at 10 > T > 0.5 K. It uses sample of moderate size (100-1000 mg), has a moderate precision and accuracy (2%-5%), is easy to operate and the measurements can be done quickly with He4.     We find a solution for exponential inflation in Brans-Dicke cosmology endowed with a cosmological term, which includes time-varying shear and vorticity. We find that the scalar field and the scale factor increase exponentialy while shear, vorticity, energy density, cosmic pressure and the cosmological term decay exponentialy for beta < 0, where beta is defined in the text.Comment: 8 pages including front one.     Thermal relaxation in charge ordered Pr0.63_{0.63} Ca0.37_{0.37} MnO3_3 in presence of a magnetic field

    We report observation of substantial thermal relaxation in single crystal of charge ordered system Pr0.63_{0.63}Ca0.37_{0.37}MnO3_3 in an applied magnetic field of H = 8T. The relaxation is observed when the temperature is scanned in presence of a magnetic field in the temperature interval TMH<T<TCOT_{MH}<T<T_{CO} where TCOT_{CO} is the charge ordering temperature and TMHT_{MH} is charge melting temperature in a field. In this temperature range the system has coexisting charged ordered insulator (COI) and ferromagnetic metallic (FMM) phases. No such relaxation is observed in the COI state in H = 0T or in the FMM phase at T<TMHT < T_{MH} in presence of a magnetic field. We conclude that the thermal relaxation is due to two coexisting phases with nearly same free energies but separated by a potential barrier. This barrier makes the transformation from one phase to the other time-dependent in the scale of the specific heat experiment and gives rise to the thermal relaxation.Comment: 4 pages LaTEX, 3 eps figure

    Strain dependence of the acoustic properties of amorphous metals below 1K: Evidence for the interaction between tunneling states

    We have conducted a thorough study of the acoustic properties between 10^-4 and 1 Kelvin for the amorphous metal Zr_x Cu_1-x (x=0.3 and x=0.4), by measuring the relative change of sound velocity dv/v and internal friction Q^-1 as a function of temperature and also of the applied strain, in both superconducting and normal state. We have found that when plotted versus the ratio of strain energy to thermal energy, all measurements display the same behavior: a crossover from a linear regime of ``independent'' tunneling systems at very low strains and/or high enough temperatures to a nonlinear regime where dv/v and Q^-1 depend on applied strain and the tunneling systems cannot be considered as independent.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures (submitted to PRL

    A combined BCDE (Brans-Dicke and Einstein-Cartan) theory with lambda-term is developed through Raychaudhuri's equation, for inflationary scenario. It involves a variable cosmological constant, which decreases with time, jointly with energy density, cosmic pressure, shear, vorticity, and Hubble's parameter, while the scale factor, total spin and scalar field increase exponentially. The post-inflationary fluid resembles a perfect one, though total spin grows, but the angular speed does not (Berman, 2007d).     Spin-Polarized Transport Across an La0.7_{0.7}Sr0.3_{0.3}MnO3_{3}/YBa2_{2}Cu3_{3}O7_{7} Interface: Role of Andreev Bound States

    Transport across an La0.7_{0.7}Sr0.3MnO_{0.3}MnO_{3}/YBa2Cu_{2}Cu_{3}OO_{7}(LSMO/YBCO),interfaceisstudiedasafunctionoftemperatureandsurfacemorphology.Forcomparison,controlmeasurementsareperformedinnonmagneticheterostructuresofLaNiO(LSMO/YBCO), interface is studied as a function of temperature and surface morphology. For comparison, control measurements are performed in non-magnetic heterostructures of LaNiO_{3}$/YBCO and Ag/YBCO. In all cases, YBCO is used as bottom layer to eliminate the channel resistance and to minimize thermal effects. The observed differential conductance re ects the role of Andreev bound states in a-b planes, and brings out for the first time the suppression of such states by the spin-polarized transport across the interface. The theoretical analysis of the measured data reveals decay of the spin polarization near the LSMO surface with temperature, consistent with the reported photoemission data.Comment: 5 pages LaTeX, 3 eps figures included, accepted by Physical Review

    Optical Activity From Extra Dimension

    Optical activity, like Faraday effect, is a rotation of the plane of polarization of propagating light in a medium and can be attributed to different sources with distinct signatures. In this note we discuss the effect of optical activity {\it{in vacuum}} due to Kaluza-Klein scalar field ϕ\phi, in the presence of an external electro-magnetic field. The astrophysical implication of this effect is indicated. We also point out the possibility of observing the same in laboratory conditions.Comment: Four Page

    Evolving Lorentzian Wormholes

    Evolving Lorentzian wormholes with the required matter satisfying the Energy conditions are discussed. Several different scale factors are used and the corresponding consequences derived.
