    Electron paramagnetic resonance studies of VO<SUP>2+</SUP> in single crystals of NaCl, KCl and RbCl

    Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) of VO2+ radicals incorporated in face-centred single crystals of NaCl, KCl and RbCl has been studied in the temperature range of 77&#176; K to 330&#176; K. At liquid nitrogen temperature, anisotropic spectra have been recorded in each case while spectra recorded at room and higher temperatures are isotropic suggesting the existence of a fast readjustment of VO2+ molecular ions in the crystals at higher temperature while this motion gets hindered at liquid nitrogen temperatures. Spin-Hamiltonian constants are calculated from the recorded isotropic and anisotropic spectra. The line widths in each case are found to obey a parabolic law originally proposed by Kivelson. The constants which give a close fit have been evaluated. The random orientation and readjustment of V-0 bond in these alkali chloride crystals is explained on the assumption that the medium exhibits a "liquid-like" nature for VO2+ molecular ion as far as the electron paramagnetic resonance absorption is concerned

    EVpedia: a community web portal for extracellular vesicles research

    Motivation: Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are spherical bilayered proteolipids, harboring various bioactive molecules. Due to the complexity of the vesicular nomenclatures and components, online searches for EV-related publications and vesicular components are currently challenging. Results: We present an improved version of EVpedia, a public database for EVs research. This community web portal contains a database of publications and vesicular components, identification of orthologous vesicular components, bioinformatic tools and a personalized function. EVpedia includes 6879 publications, 172 080 vesicular components from 263 high-throughput datasets, and has been accessed more than 65 000 times from more than 750 cities. In addition, about 350 members from 73 international research groups have participated in developing EVpedia. This free web-based database might serve as a useful resource to stimulate the emerging field of EV research.X1110478Ysciescopu

    Conformations of hydrophobic peptides in trifluoroethanol, water and in solid state: a circular dichroism and Fourier Transform Infrared study

    The conformations of peptides corresponding to KLLIALVLCFLPLAALG have been examined in trifluoroethanol (TFE), aqueous medium by circular dichroism spectroscopy and in the solid state by Fourier Transform Infra Red Spectroscopy (FTIR). The 17-residue parent peptide and peptides corresponding to shorter segments LVLCFLPLAALG and CFLPLAALG showed preference for helical conformation in TFE. Even the shorter hydrophobic peptides corresponding to KLLIA and LVL showed propensity for beta-turn conformations in TFE. However, peptides corresponding to the relatively polar segment FLPLAALG were unordered in TFE. In water, peptides that showed ordered conformation in TFE preferred beta-conformation. In solid-state, FTIR spectra indicated that the hydrophobic peptides adopt beta-structures with extensive hydrogen bonded network in the solid-state. The hydrophobic core segment thus appears to dictate the conformational propensity of the peptide

    Not AvailableAbiotic stresses including high or low temperature are known to affect productivity in plants as well as microflora, and often heat shock proteins (Hsps) are induced in cells experiencing such heat stress. Hsp 70 which belongs to one of the five major families of Hsps, DnaK family, plays a vital role in the protection and recovery of cells damaged by heat stress. Further, the role of dnak gene encoding a protein related to Hsp70 in thermoregulation has been established already. In this study, we analyzed a set of thermotolerant bacilli for variation in the dnaK gene that codes for DnaK/Hsp70 protein. A part of the dnaK was amplified from seven different bacilli isolated from Manikaran hot springs, Himachal Pradesh, India. Phylogenetic analyses of dnaK in the set of strains generated four clusters, three representing highly thermotolerant strains and one, a moderately thermotolerant strain. However, analyses of deduced amino acid sequences generated only three clusters, two representing highly thermotolerant strains and one representing moderately thermotolerant strain. Comparison of DnaK of highly thermotolerant strain (M5) and moderately thermotolerant strain (M36) revealed polymorphism for 26 amino acids in the ATPase domain and for one amino acid in the substrate binding domain. It can be hypothesized that polymorphism in the DnaK could be linked to the difference in the temperature tolerance limit of the two strains.Not Availabl
