    Weak Interaction Contributions in Light Muonic Atoms

    Weak interaction contributions to hyperfine splitting and Lamb shift in light electronic and muonic atoms are calculated. We notice that correction to hyperfine splitting turns into zero for deuterium. Weak correction to the Lamb shift in hydrogen is additionally suppressed in comparison with other cases by a small factor (14sin2θW)(1-4\sin^2\theta_W).Comment: Minor editorial corrections, reference added, version to be published in Phys. The species composition and abundance of young-of-the-year fishes have been analyzed in catches made in the upper Volga stretch of the Kuibyshev Reservoir between 1991 and 2009. It has been found that the juvenile abundance of roach and blue bream has decreased, while that of perch, silver bream, and spined loach has increased, with young-of-the-year juveniles of common rudd, tubenose goby, round goby, and black-striped pipefish appearing in catches. The results of the study show that, against the background of juvenile population decline in many spring-spawning fish species, the abundance and species diversity of young of the year in summer-spawning species has increased during the observation period

All rights reserved.The size-and-age structure as well as indexes of the linear roach growth of the Volga upper reach of the Kuibyshev reservoir during 2010-2014 are considered. Material was gathered during control fishery with stationary nets. It is established that in the catch female small fries prevailed. Low level of average length indexes and the relative simplified nature of age structure around research reflect instability of population reproduction and high level of fishing pressure. The reconstructed indicators of the linear growth of roach on materials 2013 and 2014 years were substantially lower,both on different sites of the Kuibyshev reservoir,and on materials concerning the Volga River before the reservoir foundation.     To estimate the current significance of the area for fish breeding, the species composition and abundance of young-of-the-year of the coastal zone of the Volga-Sviyazhsky area of the Volga stretch of the Kuibyshev reservoir for 2021, 2022 were considered. The work to assess the species composition and abundance of the young fish was carried out at 7 coastal stations, at depths less than 2 meters. The number of young-of-the-year was calculated per unit of effort of the fingerling seine. Species diversity was assessed using the Shannon-Weaver index. Young of 23 fish species were identified, which confirms the reproduction of these species in the study area. Observational data are compared with earlier materials from 1993-2020. A trend towards an increase in the relative abundance and the species diversity of the young of fish, mainly due to low-value species, was noted. At the same time, in 2022, a relatively high abundance of the young, the main commercial species of the reservoir, the bream, was revealed

    The remote map‑making technique and results of field investigations made possible for the first time to reveal a great number of rock glaciers within the area of the Suntar‑Khayata Range (North‑East Asia). A total of 540 formations were identified. Among them, 47 rock glaciers were classified as corrie (cirque) tongue‑shaped formations and 493 ones – as niche lobe‑shaped (single‑ and multi‑lobe) rock glaciers. Occurrence of such formations is 8.4/100 km2, that is the largest in the North‑East Asia. The rock glaciers in this region are found within a range of true altitudes from 1297 up to 2402 m asl. The majority of active features, however, are confined to the interval between 1500 and 1900 m asl. Rock glaciers occur in the altitudinal range of 1297 to 2402 m asl. The majority of active features, however, are confined to the interval between 1500 and 1900 m asl, and the main part of active formations is located within the range of 1500‑2500 m.     Natural Nuclear Reactor Oklo and Variation of Fundamental Constants Part 1: Computation of Neutronics of Fresh Core

    Using modern methods of reactor physics we have performed full-scale calculations of the natural reactor Oklo. For reliability we have used recent version of two Monte Carlo codes: Russian code MCU REA and world wide known code MCNP (USA). Both codes produce similar results. We have constructed a computer model of the reactor Oklo zone RZ2 which takes into account all details of design and composition. The calculations were performed for three fresh cores with different uranium contents. Multiplication factors, reactivities and neutron fluxes were calculated. We have estimated also the temperature and void effects for the fresh core. As would be expected, we have found for the fresh core a significant difference between reactor and Maxwell spectra, which was used before for averaging cross sections in the Oklo reactor. The averaged cross section of Sm-149 and its dependence on the shift of resonance position (due to variation of fundamental constants) are significantly different from previous results. Contrary to results of some previous papers we find no evidence for the change of the fine structure constant in the past and obtain new, most accurate limits on its variation with time: -4 10^{-17}year^{-1} < d alpha/dt/alpha < 3 10^{-17} year^{-1} A further improvement in the accuracy of the limits can be achieved by taking account of the core burnup.     Spinoptics in a stationary spacetime

    The main goal of the present paper is to study how polarization of photons affects their motion in a gravitational field created by a rotating massive compact object. We study propagation of the circularly polarized beams of light in a stationary gravitational field. We use (3+1)-form of the Maxwell equations to derive a master equation for the propagation of monochromatic electromagnetic waves of the frequency ω\omega with a given helicity. We first analize its solutions in the high frequency approximation using the `standard' geometrical optics approach. After that we demonstrate how this `standard' approach can be modified in order to include the effect of the helicity of photons on their motion. Such an improved method reproduces the standard results of the geometrical optics at short distances. However, it modifies the asymptotic behavior of the circularly polarized beams in the late-time regime. We demonstrate that the corresponding equations for the circularly polarized beam can be effectively obtained by modification of the background geometry by including a small factor proportional to ω1\omega^{-1} whose sign corresponds to photon helicity. We obtain the modified equations for circularly polarized rays by using such a `renormalization' procedure, and calculate the corresponding renormalization term for the Kerr geometry.Comment: Added references, 13 page

    Introduction and Objectives. The low specificity of PSA for the early diagnosis of prostate cancer was a reason for elaboration of new diagnostic methods. The aim of the study was to create novel diagnostic indices of random mathematic combinations of numeric clinical patient parameters and to estimate these values as a diagnostic tool for the detection of prostate cancer.Material and Methods. A total of 326 male patients aged 47—83 years (mean age was 65.56.5 years) who had undergone TRUS-guided 12-core systematic transrectal prostate biopsy were included in the study. The detection rate of prostate cancer was 43,6%. To compare the accuracy of the diagnostic indices, receiver-operator characteristic (ROC) curves were plotted for any of the indices and the areas under ROC curves were calculated. Age, prostate volume, transition zone volume, peripheral and central zone volume, concentration of PSA, and biopsy result were recorded in the patients.Results. A total of 37 indices were generated. The maximal accuracy equal to 0,664 was in «PSA Density in Transition Zone (PSAD-TZ) × Age». «PSAD × Age» and «PSAD-TZ» with an accuracy equal to 0,656 and 0,655 were on 2nd and 3rd rank positions, respectively. PSA with an accuracy of 0,583 was on 31st rank position only. With 90% specificity, the sensitivity of «PSAD × Age», «PSAD-TZ × Age», and «PSA» were 24, 22, and 19%, respectively. With 80% specificity, the sensitivity of «PSAD-TZ × Age», «PSAD × Age», and «PSA» were 47, 40, and 30%, respectively. With 90% sensitivity, there were no differences in the reduction in unnecessary biopsies. At the same time, with 80% sensitivity, «PSAD-TZ*Age» showed a 17% reduction in unnecessary biopsies as compared with «PSA» (р = 0,001).Conclusions. The indices «PSAD-TZ × Age» and «PSAD × Age» may be used in counseling patients with suspected prostate cancer. Further multicenter studies may be required to evaluate the effectiveness of the novel indices widely used in clinical practice.

    Pharmacoresistent depression is still an unsolved problem. Various non-pharmacological methods are used to solve it. There are invasive and non-invasive approaches to solving this problem. The article publishes a clinical case in which pharmacoresistance was overcome by using one of the methods of vestibular neuromodulation – chemical intratimpanal destruction of vestibular receptors.Фармакорезистентная депрессия до настоящего времени является не решенной проблемой.
