Coherent control of nuclear spin isomers of molecules: The role of molecular motion

    Get PDF
Molecular center-of-mass motion is taken into account in the theory of coherent control of nuclear spin isomers of molecules. It is shown that infrared radiation resonant to the molecular rovibrational transition can substantially enrich nuclear spin isomers and speed up their conversion rate.Comment: REVTEX, 13 pages + 3 eps figure

High temperature phase transition in the coupled atom-light system in the presence of optical collisions

The problem of photonic phase transition for the system of a two-level atomic ensemble interacting with a quantized single-mode electromagnetic field in the presence of optical collisions (OC) is considered. We have shown that for large and negative atom-field detuning a photonic field exhibits high temperature second order phase transition to superradiant state under thermalization condition for coupled atom-light states. Such a transition can be connected with superfluid (coherent) properties of photon-like low branch (LB) polaritons. We discuss the application of metallic cylindrical waveguide for observing predicted effects.Comment: 8 pages, 2 figure

Lasing on the D_2 line of sodium in helium atmosphere due to optical pumping on the D_1 line (up-conversion)

A new method is proposed to produce population inversion on transitions involving the ground state of atoms. The method is realized experimentally with sodium atoms. Lasing at the frequency corresponding to the sodium D_2 line is achieved in the presence of pump radiation resonant to the D_1 line with helium as a buffer gas.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, Late

Coherent control of enrichment and conversion of molecular spin isomers

    Get PDF
A theoretical model of nuclear spin conversion in molecules controlled by an external electromagnetic radiation resonant to rotational transition has been developed. It has been shown that one can produce an enrichment of spin isomers and influence their conversion rates in two ways, through coherences and through level population change induced by radiation. Influence of conversion is ranged from significant speed up to almost complete inhibition of the process by proper choice of frequency and intensity of the external field.Comment: REVTEX, 13 pages + 6 eps figure

Preliminary results from the Russian-American Gallium Experiment Cr-neutrino source measurement

    Get PDF
The Russian-American Gallium Experiment has been collecting solar neutrino data since early 1990. The flux measurement of solar neutrinos is well below that expected from solar models. We discuss the initial results of a measurement of experimental efficiencies by exposing the gallium target to neutrinos from an artificial source. The capture rate of neutrinos from this source is very close to that which is expected. The result can be expressed as a ratio of the measured capture rate to the anticipated rate from the source activity. This ratio is 0.93 + 0.15, - 0.17 where the systematic and statistical errors have been combined. To first order the experimental efficiencies are in agreement with those determined during solar neutrino measurements and in previous auxiliary measurements. One must conclude that the discrepancy between the measured solar neutrino flux and that predicted by the solar models can not arise from an experimental artifact

Population Inversion on Transition into the Ground State of Atoms Induced by Optical Excitation and Collisions

Lasing on the sodium resonance transitions (D1\text{}_{1} and D2\text{}_{2} lines) at the superluminosity regime was observed upon the non-resonance excitation in the presence of a buffer gas. Dependences of the lasing intensity on the pump radiation intensity and its frequency detuning from the frequencies of resonance transitions were examined. It was found that under the specific experimental conditions (high buffer gas pressure, sufficiently high intensity of pump radiation) upon the large positive frequency detuning of pump radiation with respect to the frequency of resonance ("working") transition, contrary to ingrained conceptions, population inversion for the "working" transition is raised. That results in the observed phenomena
